Poppy Pirate

Going back to work today was rough. Why does it have to start so early? Fortunately, I was able to blast through my 75+ emails in short order.
My mood was helped immensely by my outfit, which I showed off to colleague Flavia.

  • Blouse - Max Mara, vintage 90s, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95
  • Skirt - Dries Van Noten, Fall 2005, thrifted; last worn here in January with a printed shirt
  • Shoes - Marc; last seen here in May with suede swirls
  • Coat (below) - L'Atiste, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in May

She gasped when I told her what I'd paid for a Max Mara blouse. She was the only one who saw it in person, though.
I'm so grateful for you folks out there! Thank you for looking at my outfits!

This new-to-me poppy blouse was wonderful to wear.
It's very long (past my hips) but I like that it doesn't untuck on me.

My Dries Van Noten "pirate" skirt is one of my very favourite pieces. It has gathers, drapes, a sash, a bubble hem and a fold-over waist - I always feel like a pirate in it.
No boring black skirts allowed in my closet!

Still masking up.
It's becoming rarer, though.

The temps were up to a balmy 13 degrees today. Yes, I'm being sarcastic.
I felt a couple of blasts of warmth when the sun poked through the clouds. I missed gloves in the morning!

Accoutrements:
An autumnal scarf for a chilly June day.

The stuff:
I've had these shoes so long they're coming back into style. They're still the Best Red Shoes I've ever owned. It'll be a challenge when I need to replace them (that heel...) - Always Be Upgrading! - but how to improve on these classics?

Bold bling:
I liked how the black and red Bakelite bracelet worked with the top.

  • Bakelite bracelet - vintage mall, gift from L
  • Bangle - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Silver/red enamel ring - antique store, Sidney
  • Silver chain ring - Taxco, Charmaine's
  • Earrings - Betsey Johnson, swap from Cat

And how was your Monday? Do tell!

  1. Oh my, 13°C, poor you! And yes, going back to work after the holidays does seem to get harder every time. We had Monday off here in Belgium, and even going back after 3 days was a wrench!
Wearing a fabulous outfit does help softening the blow, though. That poppy blouse is amazing and goes so well with the DVN pirate skirt. And oh those shoes. They'd be too high for me, but I definitely love the colour and style, which surely is timeless! xxx

  2. I love the huge overblown poppies on your blouse and the skirt is a fantastic shape. We reached the heady heights of 20°C yesterday but it's back to gloom and 14°C today - and people wonder why the Brits travel abroad so much! xxx

  3. What an uplifting outfit indeed! I love that blouse. The whole ensemble sings!

My husband and I are on the last leg of a two week driving trip up to see our children and little granddaughters in WA and OR. It was nice for us to get to cool off, but we heard lots of complaints about the extended chilly spring. We are now driving through the AZ desert… the car thermometer reads 113F. Oh my.

  4. That top is so beautiful on you and I like the red heels with it! it's a shame it's so cold, I hope you get some warm spring weather soon!

  5. Those shoes are classy and classic! If I could still wear heels I would love a red pair like that. The poppy print blouse is the perfect bold accompaniment to a black skirt.
