Cowgirl and Outfit Requests

I've nearly gone through all my pre-planned outfits from my shopping bonanzas of the last few weeks, and only one more week of my fall/winter closet season is left.
Today's outfit features this fabulous new-to-me dress that I picked up recently.

  • Dress - Marimekko for Uniqlo, consignment; purchased here for $89.99
  • Turtleneck - Yest; last worn here (2nd outfit) in February, layered under acid-wash
  • Boots - Donald J. Pliner, consignment, Sidney; first seen here in February with flamenco ruffles
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather; last worn here in January

The irregular dots of the pattern remind me of cow-hide.
I'm a cowgirl! Moo!

To winterize this unlined cotton dress, I layered my red turtleneck under it, and wore tights. I tried a vintage slip underneath, but it hung below the hem.
I had a little bit of tight-cling but that just reinforces that this dress is going to be in my spring-summer wardrobe, to be worn with bare legs.

It was a really fun dress to wear, though. I'm excited to wear it on a hot summer day.
I like the relaxed A-line silhouette.

Masked up.
I loved the pockets too.

Outerwear.
It's leather weather! This coat is a bit too narrow at the hem for the swing shape of the dress.

Incognito.
But the dress didn't ride up while I walked, so all is good.

Accoutrements:
I had to wear my horse-print scarf to bring in the cowgirl theme. It's classy, made in France!

  • Scarf - vintage, vintage fair
  • Gloves - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

I did not need my gloves on the way home! It was sunny - yay!

The stuff:
These boots always elicit gasps of admiration. I love them too!

Brassy bling:
First wearing of this new-to-me necklace - I used it as my starting point for my accessories.

  • Necklace - thrifted; purchased here for $7.95
  • Spiky brass cuff - Midzo, vintage expo
  • Brass/stones cuff - Myka, consignment
  • Earrings - Aldo Accessories
  • Feather ring - Fossil, thrifted
  • Brass Brutalist ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall

Most of my turquoise jewelry is in my spring/summer jewelry wardrobe - yes, I have separate seasonal jewelry collections, and I swap them too!

So...speaking of wardrobe swaps, I have one more week of outfits to go before I do my ginormous seasonal closet swap-over, and I want to hear from you readers!

What item that's in my closet now would you like to see me wear?
It can be a repeat of an article of clothing, pair of shoes, jewelry,  or even a full outfit from the last six months. Leave me a comment with your request (creepy comments will be deleted) and I'll take it into consideration. I reserve the right to pick and choose from the responses, but if I wear something you suggested/asked for, I'll give you a shout out when I post your request.

  1. I loved all your outfits and couldn't possibly pick one, but good luck with the switch over. I'm still a couple months out from warm weather/

    1. Aw, thanks, Goody, that is so sweet. You'll enjoy the swap-over - it's truly massive!

  2. LOVING the cowgirl outfit. The shape of that Marimekko for Uniqlo dress is phenomenal and it's going to be perfect for the Spring/Summer.
What item in your closet would I like to see you wear? That's a tough one, Sheila. I think I'd like to see the long line Phool waistcoat again - if you can incorporate it into your outfits before the seasonal switch.
I packed two wool dresses and a velvet one away yesterday, it'll probably snow now! xxx

    1. Isn't it the best shape, Vix? I loved it, and can't wait to wear it in a couple of months when it's hot.

I LOVE this suggestion and I'm so glad you requested it. Done!

We've had snow in May in the past - I always have coats and layers!

  3. How about your Anna Sun patterned skirt with the blue sleeveless top from a few days ago? Would that work with your new blue Fluevogs?

The boots are fabulous and the dress will surely be quite comfortable on a summer’s day complete with the undershorts (a tip I took from you) for comfy thighs when legs are bare.

As for closet swap overs, LOL the temperature dropped to the low 30sF and the rain and wind are having their say! This is what early Spring is, a transitional time, so we go with the flow, dressing to be warm on one day and dressing for warm weather on another. :)

    1. You got it, Laurie. I love this suggestion, boots, top and all. I won't be going barelegged for a while yet, even with shorts! Too cold.

Yes, spring is always like that, but I enjoy having my spring colours back. The darker tones of fall/winter are ones I enjoy, but my heart belongs to the brights.

  4. I love the boots with that dress! :) And although I know you've already worn it since you bought it I'd love to see you wear that rainbow pleated skirt again - it's just so cheerful and colourful!

  5. I'll like to see the summer version of your dress. As for future looks, it's your coats that I swoon over. I guess, I like seeing you dress in boss lady pants in more style so any of those looks.

  8. That Marimekko dress is a stunner, and I love how you made it season appropriate. It works great with the red polo neck, pendant and those fabulous boots. And the classy horse print scarf, which looks suspiciously like the lining of the King Louie coat I recently thrifted and wore today! I can't wait to see you wearing the dress in Summer.
I loved it that you're taking requests! What a great idea! I'm choosing your Pank Essentiel Antwerp dress, unless that is one which stays over Summer. xxx

    1. I really liked it like this, thanks, Ann. I was reminded of my scarf when you thrifted that coat!

Oh, good choice! It's on the docket! No, I pack it away - it only works with tights (plus I have too many dresses now).

  9. I agree that this dress is really more for spring / summer, despite your good effort.
I also think that the dress competes with those gorgeous boots for attention. In my book that is. Your book is a different one haha.

    1. Hey, at least I tried, but yes, it'll be strictly hot weather going forward.

Agreed, but you know I don't have "background" of anything in my book!

  10. I like your "winterizing" of the Marimekko dress but it will be a fab dress to wear in the summer.

  11. Such a terrific look + colour palette. Many a winter ago now, I created several Christmas cards in much the same hues and suspect I will revisit it for that (and/or other) purpose(s) in the future.

I know that you have already modelled it for us recently and this isn't a request per se, but I am eagerly looking forward to seeing your breathtaking new snake themed belt here from time to time. Sssssss-woon! :D
