Weekend Wrap-Up: Vintage Hawaiian and House Casual

All the weeks are starting to blur into one long, strange time, aren't they? We're going into our 6th or 7th week of lock-down (I've lost track), and I'm really hoping that we'll see some changes in the next couple of weeks.

For now, I shall continue swanning about in my maxi dress.
I dressed up on Saturday for our Winesday/MANday Zoom call with our dear friends, as well as for my own mental health.

  • Dress - Tori Richard of Honolulu for Andrade of Honolulu, vintage 70s, Joyce's; last worn here in July 2017 to the Ulti field and for brunch after

Colour therapy! I cooked breakfast in this, slurped down lots of coffee and sat in my Book Nook and read for the afternoon until it was time to Zoom.
We chatted for just over an hour, catching up and seeing everyone. I look forward to it every week.
I am shocked that I haven't worn this dress in nearly 3 years! Isn't it amazing? Label pictures here from when I got it in June 2013. Tori Richards as a Hawaiian-based company is still around - Andrade of Honolulu was an exclusive Hawaiian boutique.

This dress was probably late 60s to early 70s (based on the original label, source here 'cause I love), although I know the owner bought it in the 70s. It belonged to Joyce (picture here), Kathy's mom - Kathy is my mom's best friend (they met in 1967 in hospital while giving birth to their daughters: me and Karlee, she of the "Treasure Island" book!).
I think Joyce would like that I am still wearing her dress!
Toes alert! I did not bother with shoes on Saturday (I did wear my slippers off and on), and did my toenails for the first time this season, a lovely shade of lilac that matches the purple in the dress' pattern.

Stuff shot:
Just a few things.

  • Brooch - gift from Mom, New Zealand
  • Bracelet - Fossil, gift from L
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower

And my earrings match.
Full face of make-up too!

Today/Sunday is a quiet day. More house clothes. No make-up, wet hair and coffee!
My last tour shirt from seeing The Beaches (I miss concerts!), worn under this lovely wool Banana Republic sweater, which was down-graded to house clothes when I swapped my closet over. My jeans were thrifted ages ago, and self-hemmed with scissors and left raw. They are Gap and non-stretchy but comfy for lounging in.

Mister Vizzini chilled out on a pillow yesterday like the little pasha he is.
"I get this pillow and also this whole couch."

I got up close, but he got cranky.
"Get out of my face, Woman."

And there we go...another weekend done. I'm off to read some more and listen to music. Maybe if I'm lucky, Vizzini will sit on me!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

  1. You have definitely neglected that beautiful dress. I sure hope it gets out a bit more in the future because it is gorgeous.

You are definitely in full spring if you've done your toes! I have considered doing mine, but I continue to put it off because, well, last week we had snow. So, sigh, it will be another couple of weeks yet for me.

Your Sunday outfit is my everyday look, lol. I can attest to the comfort factor.

Glad you are enjoying the book nook. What are you reading? I just started VOX, a book my daughter read and has kindly donated. So far it's a very interesting premise and hopefully the second half fulfills the promise of the first.

    Keep well.

    1. I will resolve to wear it more, Nana! I know - I don't know how much I'll go without nylons, though. Our mornings are still quite chilly and I don't relish bare legs then.

I'm reading "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" by RL Stevenson, since I have never read it and just re-enjoyed "Treasure Island" - I just finished reading "To Have and Have Not" by Ernest Hemingway, which I'd never read. Quite liked it - I like Hemingway's style.

  2. As you note, time has become vague. Life itself is becoming surreal.

  5. That is such a beautiful maxi dress and it's nice you could wear it again! I have lost track of the days too, the days seem both long and yet to fly by, I never know what day it is! I'm trying to get better at getting dressed up some days, even if only to make the days a little different.

    1. Thanks, Mica! I hope to get another wearing in this summer of it.

I know, it's very discombobulating, isn't it? All the days seem the same. I'm glad you are starting to groove on getting dressed up. :)

  9. I've definitely lost track of time, and the weeks are indeed becoming one huge blur now that they are no longer punctuated by weekends of charity shopping, flea markets and nature walks. Very strange indeed. That dress just took my breath away. The shape, colours and print, its utterly fabulous and I'm a tiny bit green with envy. I was wondering why I didn't recognize it, but then I read it had been 3 years since you last wore it! The bracelet and earrings are fabulous too. Can't believe they're not a set - or did I get that wrong? Still trying to find the courage to do my toenails ... I'm so clumsy! xxx

    1. It's all a blur, isn't it? I miss all those extra things I used to do! I knew you would love this dress - it's amazing! I am glad I still have a few things that surprise you! The bracelet and earrings ARE a set - I have another pair of earrings that also match that I thrifted at a later date.

Get Jos to do your toes! Ha!

    1. This one is more for wearing outside - that other one is definitely NOT for the public. I love wearing this one out and about, as it catches everyone's eye!

  11. The first toe nail painting of the season really does help to lay another long, icy Canadian winter to rest doesn't it? If the sunshine here keeps up, I might just be following your lead before the week is through. :)

  13. I rememebr you commenting that you had a Tori Richards dress when I've worn some of mine, they are always fabulous, aren't they? I can't believe you haven't worn yours for three years, it's phenomenal on you. Joyce would be so proud!

    1. I've seen a few in thrift shops here too - Hawaii is only a short 3-hour flight from here, so it is a popular destination among west-coasters. This one's pretty special, isn't it? I know, what was I thinking?? I can't wait to wear it and swan about town, searing out everyone's eyeballs! I know Joyce would love that I'm still wearing it (I have another dress of hers that I should wear this Saturday).

Oh dear, sulking kitties. That's never good. Vizzini is steadfastly ignoring me today.

  14. I have to keep checking the calendar on my phone just to figure out what the date, and day of the week it is. The days all run into each other and weekends have lost their meaning.

I LOVE the colour mix in this dress - I would wear it to lounge around the house all day too. Now that it's finally getting warmer here, I'll be able to wear a dress more often.
