Bounce-Back: Double Plaid Madness!

It's almost worth having a frustrating day like yesterday, just to have the bounce-back outfit.
Gimme some plaid madness, on the double!

  • Shirt - Ralph Lauren Sport, consignment; last seen here in September 2017 under a leather slip-dress for brunch
  • Dress - Plum; last worn here (2nd outfit) in November 2017 for brunch again
  • Shoes - Coffee Sumatra, Fluevog; last seen here in February with leather pants
  • Leather coat (below) - Danier Leather; last worn here earlier this month

This is a deep dive into some clothing I've had for YEARS. Although I love shopping and I shop often (it's my Zen-time), I do keep things I really love.
The flannel shirt is the newest thing in the outfit. Yes, it's flannel, like sleeping bags! It's the softest thing to wear ever, like pajamas with ruffles down the front.

The dress is one of my older pieces; I've had it for a good portion of my blog, since February 2011 (first worn here - flashback!). It was purchased at Plum, a small Canadian chain that still has a few stores - the location in Victoria closed about 7 years ago. I paid $25.00 for it.

I value that it's Canadian made,  but it's unlined and starting to pill and the hem's coming undone a bit. But I can't bear to part with it just yet. Until I find a plaid pencil skirt or dress of better quality, this stays.
The fabric is cut so that the plaids all line up nicely on the seams, with offset pieces on the sides and the straps - a hallmark of quality! Did you even notice the zipper at the back?

And pockets! Yesss!
My tights are ancient! They're close to 9 years old (a very early look with them here in 2010). I didn't want the bare leg look, and I needed something geometric to go with the two plaids - and found these in the bottom of my tights drawer! So glad I kept them - they are still in really good shape. I believe these are by Trasparenze.

Outerwear - my overall goal for vibe today in my bounce-back outfit was a punk/rock & roll feel. I'm tough!
 Clothing is armour!

  • Hat - Dex
  • Fur boa - thrifted
  • Studded leather gloves - Danier Leather

The stuff:
These are such lovely shoes. These were purchased new (by L) here in town, long before there was a Fluevog store. I first wore them in August 2010 here - you may recognize the outfit/pose from the framed picture in all of my indoor backgrounds. Megan Mae drew me in that outfit with my beloved Inigo kitty.

Bold bling:
Along with double plaid, I added punk-ish elements through accessories, including this new-to-me squared choker.

  • Choker - Myka, thrifted; purchased here for $23.95 - first wearing
  • Earrings - Tania Gleave, Vancouver
  • Crystal/silver ring - Soul Flower
  • Leather obi - thrifted

All pieces destined to become "homegrown vintage" - the leather obi is around 8 years old in its life with me.

  3. Lovely. Definitely a product of the Master Class in Fashion. Thanks for teaching me a new phrase ("bounce-back outfit"). Given how often I screw up, that'll be handy!

    1. I made it up - I don't know if anyone else has ever used that phrase, but feel free, Ally! Aw, you don't screw up! It's all a learning process. :)

  4. I love this outfit SO MUCH. I'm terrible at mixing things up with patterns but you make it work effortlessly. And those shoes and tights? Yes please!

    1. Thank you so much, Krysten! The key to mixing patterns is not to have too many colours - there are two neutrals here (black and white), and then just red. Easy!

  8. Double plaid - awesome!! I love this bounce-back, but I'll have to go back and read what caused this. Armour is right and you are clearly winning that battle. Big star!!

  10. Wow, you have everything going here and the result is fabulous. Yes, matched plaids are a thing of the past, or seldom seen couture or handmade .. I would not part with this dress either. Love the new chocker, a stunning bit if bling, and the spectator pumps are gorgeous!

  13. Yes, yes, yes to plaid madness! I love how you styled the dress with the flannel plaid shirt underneath. That dress is sublime - red plaid always reminds me of my punk days! Hope you can hang on to it for a bit longer. xxx
