I had major minor annoyances all day, but first, the dress.here) for $65.00. Considering it is handmade here in Victoria, and it's a sample, I am happy with my purchase, ethics-wise.
And...round 1! Shout out to Patti over at Not Dead Yet Style for trying out the Like it/Lose it on a dress! It really works!
Holy Ship! Dress (Smoking Lily)
However, as noted, I had malfunctions all freakin' day. I note that Megan the Fashionable Bureaucrat also had tights issues today, so there must be something in the air (although I'm on the west coast and she's on the east). First, blew the toes in both both feet in these nude fishnets. Argle-bargle, that makes me furious! Both toes! Massive holes!
Once the two layering pieces had ensconced themselves around my midsection, the dress (which is cotton), adhered to my tights and decided to work its way up to my hoo-ha. Crotch-tacular! Didn't help that the bottom button of my coat was open, allowing all the office workers of downtown a view of me desperately trying to hold my dress in place while not spilling coffee down the front of myself.
Naturally, all the layers behaved once I didn't have my bag and coat on.
On the way home, I stopped to get a bottle of wine. No Interac. Arg. Back downtown to another beer and wine store (no, we can't buy beer and wine in the grocery store or 7Eleven here), only to find they were also only able to take cash. I fumed and breathed deeply and headed home. No danged wine. And of course, the dress, slip and underskirt all headed north. Fortunately, L is a kind and generous husband and is going to go buy some wine for tonight, or I'd be a raging basket case (well, more than I already am, heh).
But let's get back to the clothing.
|I see a gold bug on the belt!|
here), where I wore them 4 times. I liked how the purple toned with the mustard of the dress and played off the blues. I repeated the gold moth from the belt in the gold cicada earrings. Although the belt is black, the shoes are purple and the ships/underskirt are navy, they all perceive as dark and worked as neutrals to balance all that mustard.
Dress (Smoking Lily), underskirt (Noa Noa), shoes (Pearl Hart Bellevues, Fluevogs), belt (Smoking Lily, consignment), leather cuff (made in LA, bought local), earrings (Erica Weiner).
I think it's fun! The underskirt and those amazing shoes really set off the dress divinely!ReplyDelete
A uniquely stunning dress and what a gorgeous color on you too!ReplyDelete
I had a friend who did repossessions for unpaid auto debts. She showed up in a long puff coat (1980's) and when she took it off her entire dress and slip were hiked up to her hoo-ha from static electricity!
LOL!!! I thought only I had days like this.ReplyDelete
Love the outfit, though! Truly fabulous!
Sheila, I love, love, love that dress! It's perfect. If only I could get away with that color! And I love the phrase "major minor annoyances!"ReplyDelete
Oh, you poor thing! Sorry you had such a challenging wardrobe day. It looks gorgeous though - what a fab dress, and I love the purple of the shoes and the little lines on the belt.ReplyDelete
I've got sore feet from my new short boots and three games of bowling. Tomorrow I'm going to do Comfortable Friday!
I can see why you bought it - it ticks a lot of boxes, but I'm afraid I've voted "lose it" as it just looks a size or 2 too big for you? It may just be the way it's belted, and I look forward to seeing it's other incarnations shortly :-)ReplyDelete
Ha, holes in tights and hoo-has on display and no wine...ReplyDelete
What a day! At least the Holy Ship dress is looking marvellous, I love the colour and those ships, and the shoes are gorgeous. Hope the wine arrived in time to prevent a wardrobe malfunction-induced meltdown! xxxxxxx
As I expected, that dress is so YOU. I love it! Hope you can work out the mechanical issues so you don't have the same frustrations the next time you wear it. :)ReplyDelete
Really like that dress! Such a shame that your layers would not behave today though - when they are sitting nicely like in the photos it looks great! :)ReplyDelete
yes! I have had the "no red lights" phenomenon while driving and desperate to fix a broken nail, etc. What's up with that? Love this dress and the net underskirt. I voted Keep.ReplyDelete
I've got to agree with "Tat" -- it doesn't fit well in the bodice. Perhaps you can have some more darts sewn it, that would fix all the bunching.ReplyDelete
But then, if it were me in your body + clothing, I would still wear it, bad fit and all because of that amazing print! Oh, and how well it matches those glorious shoes!
That's the dilemma sometimes -- hopefully, as Tat says, it's the belt causing (or emphasizing) the fit issues.
ps: love the 3x concept and am implementing it soon!
Yikes! Sorry to hear about the clothing difficulties and the problems in getting wine! We also can't buy wine in grocery stores here so I know how that goes!ReplyDelete
I love the color of this dress and the underskirt peeking out is fun!
Terrible dress! I think you should get rid of it and send it to MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! ;) It's beautiful! I love the colour and the print. It's a keeper!ReplyDelete
I'm not wearing tights today so hopefully I won't have any wardrobe malfunctions today.
Hi! I am a lurker and I had to speak up to say I LOVE THAT DRESS!!! I visited Victoria for a conference in the late 90s and found Smoking Lily - I live in SoCal and break down and order from time to time. Thanks for sharing some of their more One of a kind offerings. The dress looks great on you!!ReplyDelete

Hmmm, I may have voted prematurely. I think it would be "no" after discovering the dress's wandering ways! But it is a lovely color for you, and I love the tulle underskirt.ReplyDelete
I like the dress too and it seems that I am going to have to fight over it wih Mega above ;)ReplyDelete
Hee hee, you said 'hoo-ha'. I also like 'undercarriage' and 'lady garden', while we are on the subject...ReplyDelete
Off that subject, despite it's wanderings, that is a lovely dress. The ethical-ness of it makes me happy too :-)
Sheila, you love this dress, I know you do... why would you even think of losing it?!?!ReplyDelete
I wore a skirt on Valentine's day that had the same creeping issue... only it was bad without a jacket too!
Really cute dress!ReplyDelete
