Blue Blouse and Blue Suede Shoes

Today, I introduce you to this blouse:
I bought it in January 2011 and have worn it twice previously: the last time was here in May 2011 with a grey skirt and some very cool shoes that I haven't worn in a VERY long time. The first time I wore it was here in January 2011 just after I bought it - I wasn't particularly creative today, as I wore a nearly identical outfit (minus the sword). I paid $16.95 for the blouse - it's silk and is by Elie Tahari for Nordstrom.

These are my black satin tux pants, and along with my leather pants, are the only other pair of dressy pants I own. I'm really not a pants girl. I wore the tux pants five times in the November 2012 capsule wardrobe (recap here) and I love them.
The shoes are my blue suede shoes, last seen here in a December Wild Card outfit.

Well, what do you think of the blouse? It's not my usual shape and the colour is a bit limiting. What would you wear with it? It feels wonderful on, and the quality is amazing, but I've only worn it three times in two years. Thoughts?

  1. Eh, I like the color and material but it seems plain. Perhaps if the blouse were shorter or tucked I'd like it more?

  2. I think that blouse is gorgeous. It would work perfectly in my closet! :)

  3. I love the blouse, but I can see why it would be a hard piece to style. The length is a little long and tunic-y for most skirts. Maybe try it over a pencil skirt to balance or with a maxi for a boho free and floaty look.

  4. I don't know how to vote on that one because it doesn't seem like your usual style. Maybe if you belted it to show off your figure - if you've got it, flaunt it! The shape as it is does nothing for you, but I do like the blue.

  5. If you haven't worn the blouse much, then it's not "you." Set it free. ;-) Love the blue suede shoes, though!!

  6. I like it, such a nice print! Maybe try it tucked into a skirt for a different look? I can see how it would be tricky to style, the cut is very specific. But such a lovely print and colour! :)

  7. The colour and print of the blouse are lovely, and I am always a sucker for silk. Still, if you haven't worn it much, that suggests might not be a keeper for you. However, I always think it's worth trying something several ways before giving up on it. Will it tuck in? I like Megan's idea of a boho look with a maxi - what about trying it with your beautiful neutral pleated maxi skirt? Or a waistcoat/vest over the top? The purple suede one?
It's too lovely a piece not to try a few other options! xxx

  8. I agree with Une Femme - if you don't reach for it much, it's not reflecting your style. Also agree that the shoes are fab : >

  9. I kept thinking: "Oh Sheila looks so summery!" and yet you're in black... must be the top! Try it with slim, tailored bottoms, like the pencil skirt Megan suggested. If not, I think it's a great weekend top!

  10. This is one of the few times I voted "lose it" - I like the colors but I think it is a tough piece to style. I know I'd have some difficulty with it anyway! I do love your blue suede shoes though!

  11. I like the blouse--but then it's more my boho style. Maybe use it as a layering piece tucked in??

  12. I'm editing my closet very severely these days, and a blouse only worn three times in several years would definitely be a "go" by my guidelines. I'm only keeping clothes that I dearly love and feel fabulous in. So, do you dearly love it and feel fabulous in it?

I do adore your blue suede shoes :)

  14. I think it's gorgeous and would wear it with a bright yellow short skirt - so pretty! I also voted for it because you said it felt so good. Especially in the winter, when so many things feel thick or itchy, a dreamy, silky blouse is heaven.

  15. I really like the blouse, particularly the colour and how it fits aound your shoulders. I am with another commenter though, how about with a maxi skirt or skinny trousers?

The lack of your wearing it gives me pause though, as you are so good at digging through your wardrobe.

  16. Sheila, I think it would look fabulous with a pair of white pants. Very flowy and light. However, it doesn't seem like your style. It is beautiful, but if you aren't feeling it, then I vote to get rid of it.

  17. I love the shirt, Sheila. Its very pretty.

  18. I love the shirt! I can see how its not as versatile as pieces that I'm used to see you wear. You sort of need to create an outfit for it and stick with it- but it looks lovely, and I love the colors of it.

Funny, but I realize how my taste differs from the general population- this blouse I feel strongly for, but the pink blazer gives me a shrug of meh, while it seems lots of people prefer it. So take my votes with a grain of salt.

  19. I read the post with this blouse with the yellow skirt first. It does look better tucked in rather than blousy. Maybe it would be better with cropped pants or leggings? It's a fun colour and pattern though.
