Try Again Tuesday: Neoprene and Neutrals

I thought I would try this top again, since I was waffling on it last time I wore it.
This time, layering it over a long-sleeved blouse and bringing more neutrals into play.

  • Top - Club Monaco, thrifted; first worn here last week with red silk pants and yellow shoes
  • Blouse - Renuar, thrifted; first seen here in July with sparkly culottes
  • Skirt - Club Monaco, thrifted; purchased here for $20.25
  • Shoes - Chi Mihara; last seen here in April with a teddy sweater and a pirate skirt

I also couldn't wait to wear this new-to-me wool/leather skirt. It was wonderful, but it's now been put in the pile for fall/winter.

Yes, it's 28 degrees out, and I'm wearing layers, neoprene, wool and leather. At least my legs are bare. Temperature-wise, I was fine until I walked home - guh, HOT OUT.
I did really like this outfit - four different textures made all these neutrals much more exciting to me. I need my detail!

Here's how I first wore the neoprene top, to refresh your memory.
"No one cares about your stupid top, Woman."
I actually liked it layered - it did eliminate the poke-you-in-the-arms minor issue with the crusty little beads that are sewn all over the top.

It has bust darts on the front and looks weird worn with the V in front (I know you were going to suggest that!).
So, I am still on the fence - I asked a few people at work, and it was pretty evenly divided. What say you, my friends? Yay or nay?

The stuff:
These shoes are so comfy - even for that high of a heel (there's a platform hidden in the toe).

Silver bling:
Basic pieces. I had a bunch of bracelets picked out then realized I couldn't see them with the long sleeves of the blouse.

  • Earrings - Joyce's, vintage 80s
  • Crystal/silver ring - Soul Flower
  • Shield ring - Nine West

  1. Amazing shoes. I want to like the neoprene top but it seems you are trying too hard to make it work :)

    1. Thanks, Cynthia. Yeah, any time I struggle to style an item, it usually means that item is a goner.

  2. Good Lord woman - neoprene, wool, leather???? I can't bear to wear anything other than linen with the temperatures we've had. I do like the top as a layering piece, but I liked it more on its own with your red print pants. However, if it pokes you in the arm, I might be inclined to pass it on.

    1. Ha ha! I'm in heavily AC'd offices, and am only outside for maybe 40 minutes in a work-day. Yes, I'm feeling similarly about the top. I think it's destined for the giveaway pile.

  3. Super cute shoes. I like the top layered. See if you even want to wear it again!!

  4. Yay, but this top has a very winter / holiday season vibe to me. Let it rest and try again in December. I know you can do it!

    1. Agreed, but for winter/holiday, I actually have a gorgeous vintage wool piece with beads that is a stunner. Not much point in having two similar items...

  5. I agree with previous comments, those shoes are fabulous! and this top is cute and I like the shape, the texture and the bling, but it probably has some kind of Winter vibe which makes difficult to wear it in the summertime. Anyway, it looks perfect with this skirt and the fab shoes!

    1. I love them too! Thank you, Monica! I like the top, but yes, a fall/winter vibe, and tricky to style. I liked this outfit overall, though.

  6. Loved the layered look - I'd happily wear that as an office look. Love the detail on the top.

    1. Thanks, Gail! I liked the outfit, but I think I'd prefer the topper to be a leather cropped jacket.

  7. Although I do love the layered look, the whole outfit speaks autumn/winter to me, rather than summer. You are very brave to try and wear this on a day when it's 28 degrees. I would die sweating! Looking forward to seeing the top again in winter, though! The shoes are to die for! xxx

    1. Yes, very true - I don't mind wearing seasonally-inappropriate items, though! I'm in an AC'd office - I'm often chilled, even on really warm days. Thanks, Ann!

  8. I like the top. It’s very pretty and deserves another chance. Pop it in the autumn/winter pile and see how it goes in a different season.

  9. I do like it layered, and I know you love to layer so I'd be tempted to say keep it, but at the same time if you're not really loving it I know you have many more tops you do love!

  10. The top is really pretty but I get what you mean about the scratchiness of the bling. Perhaps consider moving it to your Fall/Winter stash as this seems best layered. I think it will work very nicely come the Holidays when you're drawn to sparkle in your outfits and it will be cool enough to comfortably layer. Just a thought!

    1. Thank you so much, Lorri! I have thought about that, but as noted above, I have a very similar top to this already (vintage, hand-beaded, quite a beauty).

  12. How are you wearing ssoooooooooooooooooooo many clothes in hot weather! I can barely cope with 1 layer! The top is really nice but I definitely prefer it the way round you wore it! The shoes are lovely too!

      Thank you so much, Kezzie!

  13. This neoprene top looks wonderful with the fabulous skirt , but it seems like a complicated piece and can potentially be a bit ouchy... so as much as I adore the styling and embellishment... I bet you have something better in that bountiful closet of yours.

  14. Ba-bye cute top. That's the chorus I'm hearing. And sure, I'll join in. You are neutral about that top and you are NEVER neutral, at least if you have to force yourself into it. There are tons more cool clothes clamouring for a chance to join your closet. I like the outfit.

    1. Yup, it's gone! You're right, I'm seldom neutral over clothing items. *high five* for knowing ourselves.
