Two-Fer: Gookey and Pilgrims

This is going to be brief, as I am off to see "The Gospel According to Andre" tonight with Elaine. Gotta catch the bus!
Finally wearing this vintage strapless prom dress from the 80s.

  • Jacket - fake Gucci (Gookey!), thrifted; last seen here in April with houndstooth
  • Dress - AJ Bari for Neiman Marcus, vintage 80s; last worn here in June 2017 with aqua
  • Shoes - Truths Pilgrim, Fluevog; first worn here earlier this month with patterns galore

Yes, this is a strapless dress! If you check out the "last seen" link above, there's a picture of it "au naturel."
It doesn't stay up very well, so I always wear a cardigan or jacket over it. I loved how this green lace one looked - it's my Gucci/Gookey! So totally fake!

I had a lot of compliments on this outfit, and the colours, and the patterns.
 Winner!

I always show the underskirt of the dress:
Sheer polka dots! When is the last time you saw a sweet detail like that?

Oh, and here we are again - this is what I am wearing to the theatre.
Presto! Add a red cami, and change to trousers.

  • Cami - Ricki's, but not tracked
  • Trousers - Jean's by Jean Paul Gaultier, vintage 90s, vintage store, Vancouver; last seen here in May for Star Wars Day

My alternate "Pants on Stairs" pose.
 Can I made the bus?

I felt quite clever, figuring out this look - it was very last-minute.
"My dinner is late! Stop with your pictures, Woman!"
I like how these shoes work with the pants.

They're a little odd, like me.
"FEED ME!"
I kinda have to wear something goofy to a movie about a fashion industry icon, don't I?

I'm even wearing a real purse!
A pop of neon! Is that still a trend? Do I care? (Answer: NO).

  • Bag - Club Monaco, thrifted

The stuff:
Second wearing, and these are stretching out nicely. I have a feeling these will last a long time in my wardrobe.

Gold bling:
The earrings are real gold, bought by L in 2002 for our 5th wedding anniversary.

  • Earrings - gift from L, 5th anniversary
  • Bracelet - thrifted - first wearing

The bracelet was a perfect match for the Gookey jacket!

And....6 minutes to spare! Off to catch the bus! Edit: YES! I made the bus.

  1. Gorgeous dress and I love your "last minute outfit" too! Did you make the bus?

  2. I love your last minute outfit, glad you were able to pull it together, take pics and blog with time to spare! I usually get flustered when I'm trying to get dressed in a hurry and end up with something I'm not 100% happy with. I try plan my outfits out the night before to avoid that, but sometimes I want to leave final decisions (like accessories) until the morning, and that can throw me for a loop if we are running late, haha!

    1. Thank you, Mica! I'm getting to be a pro at doing both quick outfits and a quick blog post, but yes, I totally get that!

    1. Aw, thank you, Monica! This dress has been a good investment - who'd have thought that a multi-coloured 80s strapless dress would be so versatile? I love the pants (they are not denim, but a dark cotton with a velvety finish).

  5. I hope you caught your bus! And a new pose! I admire how you can find ways to wear clothing that isn't perfect, as you do putting something on top of this strapless piece. Clever idea.

    1. I did! Ha, it's not really new - I've done it before, mostly with pants, which don't "pose" well. I've safety-pinned the dress to my bra before!

  6. I love both outfits! The strapless dress is a work of art: such a great print and all these lovely colours going on. The lacy jacket is a perfect accompaniment. I've got to admit I've never worn a strapless dress myself. I would always worry it wouldn't stay up properly ... Love the second, last minute outfit too. But pray tell us, did you make the bus? xxx

    1. Thank you, Ann! It's an amazing dress, really. A strapless dress really has to fit perfectly in the bust, otherwise you're hoiking it up constantly!

      I did make the bus!

  7. Great styling with that tricky dress, but it was worth it - love those colours by the way. The jeans are rather fabulous and so very different for you which is always worth extra points my dear. Hope the shoes behaved as you sprinted for the bus!
