Ruffles and Red Suede

It's cooled off considerably in the last 24 hours - it might even rain this weekend! - which gave me the opportunity today to wear something slightly less summery.
Silk and suede, yup. In August.

  • Blouse - Emporio Armani, thrifted; purchased here for $72.95
  • Skirt - Holt Renfrew, vintage 90s, thrifted; last seen here in April with black leather
  • Shoes - Elegant Conversations Kendra, Fluevog; last worn here in June with creams and greens
  • Jacket (below) - Holt Renfrew, vintage 90s, last worn here in the same outfit as the skirt

I built the outfit around this new-to-me super-swanky Emporio Armani (KLASSY) blouse that I bought on the weekend.

It was lovely to wear all day, but I had to safety-pin the front placket due to buttons wanting to gape. It's not just the cheap brands - the chi-chi brands do it too! Jeez! Put a snap on it for us, would ya?

If you're having trouble figuring out what colour this is, here you go:
It's pale grey with burgundy dots - they look like bricks in the picture due to how they're spaced.

My nearly-menopausal right armpit (never the left one, oddly) decided to gush near the end of the day - thankfully, it did not turn the blouse dark. I hate when that happens to wet fabric.
Anyways, despite the "dry clean only" on the tag, I washed it by hand in cold water with a bit of foamy handsoap and it's drying on the deck now. It will be fine, I'm sure. I need to be able to wash my blouses.

The colour is distorting here - these really are matching reds!
Because if I'm going to wear a jacket with my red suede skirt, it's got to be the matching jacket. You know I am all about the matchy.

The stuff:
My sore calf is nearly healed - it doesn't seem to mind heels. These are great if I don't walk too much in them. I have tired feet now, after a long day.

White bling:
I felt like the blouse needed something at the neck. Pearls will do.

  • Belt - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Necklace - vintage 80s, Grandma J's
  • Earrings - thrifted
This coming weekend is a long one for us in BC - we have Monday off, woo hoo! I will be back then with tales of adventure and a bigass weekend wrap-up for you. Have a wonderful weekend, my friends!

  1. That blouse is such fun to look at. The waterfall of ruffles keeps the eye searching and ends up discovering even more details! EA knows what they are doing!
I appreciate your candor in revealing your sweating habits. We all have funny things like that. Mine: most of my arm hair fell out during my second pregnancy (has this happened to anyone else?!) but one hair grew extra long, amongst the stumps. I call him Harry.

    1. Mel-Bee, You made me laugh out loud I too have a “pet” strand, but never named him. Mine is on my chest! Grows extremely long, and is gossamer like silky. Thankfully, he’s of a very light translucent color and not too noticeable to others, I think. I pluck him when I think of it.
Sheila, your blouse is just lovely. You are going to get lots of outfits with it, and I can tell you feel good wearing it.

    2. Mel-Bee, thank you so much! It's even more glorious in person.

Oh, gawd, yes. Get used to it, as the ol' menopause looms for me! I have one really long eyebrow hair that suddenly appears, even though I groom my brows constantly. It's like, POOF! It's there.

      I LOL'd at Harry!

    3. Amie, thank you - yes, I'm really excited to incorporate it into my fall/winter wardrobe (it's a little too warm for spring/summer, really).

  2. I love the blouse with the red suede suit, such a fun combo. It's a shame the blouse gapes as it looks so pretty and fun to wear!

    Enjoy your upcoming long weekend!

    1. Thanks so much, Linda! Yes, that whole dry cleaning thing is so over-cautious.

  4. The blouse looks even better on! I hear you on the gaping buttons, though, they are quite a nuisance. I love how the ruffles are peeking out from your jacket, and with the pearls and white bling, this makes an elegant, yet quirky look! Love it! Re:menopausal gushings, strangely enough my armpits seems to be the least sweaty parts of my body! xxx

    1. I know - when it fit so well, I just had to have it, regardless of the expensive price. Thanks so much, Ann!

Ugh, I hate my armpits at times.

The chain belt adds a lot as well and the printed pumps are stunning. This is truly magnificent. I also wash my silk blouses and I have never had a problem.

  10. I am melting just looking at you! We've had three days with the humidex hovering around 40 degrees and at this point I can't bear to leave my apartment. I want to wear real clothes again!

    1. I don't like waiting to wear new things - it's always good to wear them right away and find out if they're going to work or not.

      Thanks, hon!

  12. Oh so freaking good!! I love this outfit. Best without the jacket, but I get you want a jacket as well. The shoes.. I am drooling over the shoes. That is what you do so well, and it is the area where I suck: you have modern shoes with a skirt or a dress. Not in a million years would I have considered these shoes and they are so good. I need you here in Holland to go shoe shopping with me. Hang on, I need to go to Canada as we don’t have Fluevog.

    1. I agree - it needs a slimmer line jacket over it anyway. Those shoes are still available at Fluevog - and now that you have a store, go get them!

    2. You made it so hard! I looked online and they still had my size. But.... my money is gone plus I swore I was not going to buy any more heels until my Knee is better. I am still having 4 new pairs in my closet, never worn.
