Victorian Lace and Sparkly Culottes

Is the week over yet? Jeez, what's taking so long?

Anyway, here's today's outfit, built around this new-to-me blouse.
I also wanted to wear these culottes for the first time this spring.

  • Blouse - Renuar, thrifted; purchased here on the weekend for $4.25
  • Culottes - Michal Negrin, thrifted; last seen here in March with mustard
  • Espadrilles - Nanette Lepore, thrifted; last worn here in June with a bad peach vest

My use of the hanger trick in my closet means I'm starting to see the things I'm not grabbing for, and the pieces I may have just missed (a situation that happens in my dress section, since I have so many of them!).
"Who are you talking to, Woman? Is it my fans?"
So, first wearing of these culottes this spring/summer - and I love them in warm weather! I'm also finally showing off the buttons. One popped off today (safety pin to the rescue), and they are a pain to unbutton/button when you go to the bathroom, but I still love them. See the sparkles on the black parts near the bottom?

The blouse was fine - I like the Victorian lacy look of it. It reminds me of the late 70s/early 80s. And as one of my coworkers pointed out, "You'll never have to iron it."
"Hello, fans - enjoy my noble profile."
I sweated in this today, and spilled coffee on it, and got a little lipstick on it too, so back in the wash it goes! I love washable blouses for that very reason - I am a spillypants!

The stuff:
I liked these espadrilles more on this wear than the last one. They're still good. I like that they have a slightly dressy vibe.

Simple bling:
I remember my mom wearing this pin on her blouses in the 70s. Of course, I have to do the same, 40 years later.

  • Pin - vintage 60s
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

  1. Love the way the lacy espadrilles (gorgeous) echo the lace in the blouse. Such a pretty outfit!

  2. Loving the Victorian vibe you've got going on. I feel your pain with those side buttons but what's a minor inconvenience when you look that fabulous? xxx

    1. Me too - it's a fun look, and I've always liked it. Exactly - I can live with the *&*^&%ed buttons! Thanks, Vix!

  3. I love iron free pieces, and pieces you can just throw in the washing machine. I'm also someone frequently spilling things on my clothes. Bags are a bit easier to keep clean which is why I tend to spend more on them than clothes!

Hope that your week improves and the rest of it flies by for you! :)

    1. I'm spilly, and I'm also entering menopause - not a great combination when it comes to keeping blouses and shirts pristine!

      Thanks, Mica!

  5. Yup! Very 70s as was your pink & orange "prairie" skirt outfit you wore a week or so ago. Both outfits mad me smile enormously-I loved wearing that style back in college! Thanks for the deja vu. Carol in VT

    1. Thank you, Carol! As you can tell, I love that style - I wore similar looks in the 70s and in the 80s as well! Deja vu is right!

  6. The culottes and the crinkly, lacy blouse are a fantastic combo. I love how you've pinned the flower brooch at the collar. The espadrilles are a great addition, as they echo the lacy panels in the blouse. Very clever! Confession: I'm a spillypants too ;-) xxx

  8. I love a nice pair of culottes - I appreciate them more now than I did "back in the day" when they were popular! I don't wear white for the simple reason that I too am a "spillypants" and I find that white cotton stuff like t-shirts never look as good after a wash or two.

    1. It's the piece, more than the style, that grabbed me with these pants. Ha, the spillypants tribe grows! I go through a lot of white/cream shirts!

  9. I love your culottes, and love the way you styled them, the combo with the espadrilles and the blouse, it looks really fabulous!. I always admire culottes in other girls, but they're not flattering on me!

  10. I have a love-hate relationship with culottes. I love them on others but they do not fit me well but I still buy them... it's a tricky situation :)
Its wonderful you can wear that brooch so many years later.

  11. your blouse is beautiful. I can’t get over what a bargain it is. It looks very similar to one that I recently saw in the window of Ralph Lauren. That blouse probably retails for $800. I also love the way you put the brooch at the cOlaf.
Love the embroidery detail on your denim. The espadrilles are beautiful too.
