The Shiny Season: Gold, Medallions and a Tiger

Phew, today was a very busy day for me. Good thing I armoured up.
I'm into what I call "The Shiny Season" where I pile on gobs of shiny things, whether that's clothes, shoes or accessories. Or all of the above!

  • Blazer - Helmut Lang, thrifted; last worn here in December 2022 with the same tiger brooch
  • Medallion top - no label, thrifted; purchased here for $11.95
  • Skirt - Ralph Lauren, consignment; last seen here in August with new denim
  • Shoes - Pegabo, thrifted; last worn here in July with murmurations and swirls
  • Sleeveless coat (below) - Only, thrifted; last seen here on the weekend

I built the outfit around this new-to-me thrifted top - I have named it the Medallion top so that I can find it for tracking purposes.
I'm holding my hand up near my tiger brooch - you can see it in the pics if you're looking for it.

I felt very swanky in this outfit all day, and gave colleague Leah a twirl. A few of my coworkers admired my blazer.
The giant bronzy-gold skirt is one of my closet treasures. It's so gorgeous - it's silk and lame (lah-MAY, darlings!).

I spy a tiger tail.
A very nice person pointed out to me while I was out running an errand that I had tucked the back of my skirt into my nylons. The HORROR! Thank you, nice person!

I didn't take the jacket off all day (too cold), but isn't this pretty? I would wear this top just like this.
Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh. And yes, I also ball this skirt up in my lap to escape the hungry office chair wheels.

Outerwear - it's too warm for my full-on winter coats.
But it's too cold not to wear a coat.

The sleeveless coat is such a good option.
Hiding behind my sunnies. Incognito!

Accoutrements:
I enjoyed wearing my fluffy "I made it myself!" gold collar instead of a scarf. Not bad for crocheting without a pattern!

  • Gold crocheted collar - vintage thrifted wool, made by me
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
I don't wear these shoes that often, but they are still useful.

Gold bling:
So much gold!

  • Belt - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Three-section bracelet - J. Crew, thrifted
  • Gold bangle - thrifted
  • Earrings - vintage fair
  • Necklace - Givenchy, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Jade/brass ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Tiger brooch - consignment, gift from L

Are you ready for the Shiny Season?

  1. Bring on the shiny! Any bit of sparkle to enliven the day! It’s as if the top was made to go with that wonderful swooshy, shimmery skirt. Still amazes me, and I am appreciative of your ability to crochet without a pattern. Your collar is the impressive result!

  2. Oh yes, that top was a great buy and looks fab with the sweet wrapper skirt. Your crochet collar is fabulous. Hoorah for the person who pointed out that you'd tucked your skirt in your tights!
Shiny Season for me is the Summer festival season, I'm all about sequins in the sunshine. xxx

  3. What a fabulous outfit! I love your crocheted collar, too. I've done that with the clothes tucked into the tights ;only I had loo paper trailing out behind, too! In the middle of a room where exams were taking place...oh, the embarrassment....

  4. I absolutely love this outfit, Sheila! I had no idea how you'd style that top, but you definitely came up trumps with this one. Loving the crocheted collar too! But oh the horror indeed! Been there, done that, of course. I'm glad that nice person pointed it out to you! xxx

  6. Having experienced the real practical difficulties of wearing female clothes I'm surprised more women don't suffer from mishaps like tucking one's skirt into nylons.
