New Blue Debut, and a Wee Shop

Ah, I am so glad that I booked an extra day off following our travel and weekend excitement (here, if you missed it). I slept in, and got ready to go have a wander through the Fort Street shops - but then Mom rang, with a funny coincidence - she used to know the artist who did the ship painting that L bought (this one). She and Marie Verwoord were both in the Victoria Society of Artists circa 1979-1980 (this specific society no longer exists). It was a juried membership where you had to do a presentation of your work to be admitted, and Mom remembered Marie as an elegant and well-dressed lady who did beautiful paintings. Well, what a small world!

A shopping outfit this time of year is often going to be focused on the shoes, bag and coat.
A light tee and a simple skirt is all I needed.

  • T-shirt - Adidas Farm Rio, thrifted; last worn here in October 2023 for a Mom-Day visit
  • Skirt - Danier, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in July 2023 with pink bookends
  • Shoes - Adidas All Stars, thrifted; last worn here in the same outfit as the tee in October 2023
  • Coat (below) - Jeno de Paris, vintage 60s, consignment, Powell River; purchased here for $60.00

I have been poking around in my closet, looking for backwards hangers, which indicate not-yet-worn clothes this season.
I was shocked to see this basic grommet-y leather skirt languishing!

The tee has a mesh over-layer.
I hear mesh is in with the cool kids again.

And here's my new blue leather coat - sorry about the slight blur.
A perfect fit, length, ginormous pockets!

So good.
I mixed purple and grey with it as accents.

I looked like this while shopping.
Scarf tied to the purse.

All done up and incognito while outside.
I matched the blue sky!

Accoutrements:
I was pleased at how well the scarf matched the coat.

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, thrifted
  • Scarf - Halston, vintage, thrifted
  • Gloves - vintage, thrifted

The stuff:
Comfy shoes for a couple of hours on my feet.

Minimal bling:
I don't want my jewelry to get in the way or snag when I'm trying clothes on.

  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Earrings - vintage fair

I popped into Charmaine's where I spotted this moonstone bracelet. After handling it, I knew it wasn't silver.
It's not a vintage piece - it's maybe 20 years old and was probably sold as a tourist souvenir. The metal is an alloy mix, and it has less detail than a true vintage piece from the 1950s or earlier.

This eagle head is not a real silversmith mark.
It was $30.00 which I thought was fair.

I like it on.
It probably won't last too long with me, but that's how it goes.

I popped into MONA for a look around - this t-shirt caught my eye.
I love Blondie!

By Blondie!
It was $18.00.

I spent some time going through the Velvet Crease, but nothing really grabbed me.
These soft pink suede gloves were a yes.

They're by Nevada.
They were $25.00.

Vizzini, you ready for some cuddling?
"I'm warming up our spot!"

Excellent!

  1. Hello Vizzini! That new old leather coat looks fabulous on you, you really suit that ice blue colour. The Mexican bracelet is a beauty and I was a massive Blondie fan (until I saw them live a few years ago...oh dear!) xxx

  2. The coat looks so much nicer on than I imagined from the shopping haul picture! It also immediately screams (at least to my ears ;)) “please embellish some part of me with your original designs!” I like the rich purples of your sneakers and gloves, plus the pink of the newly thrifted gloves.
And what a delightful coincidence that your Mom knew Marie Verwoord!

It’s snowing in NY and looks like there’s potential for building snow people and making angel wings later!
    Cheers, Laurie

  4. I always need an extra day off after a holiday, so I'm hearing you! And it seems it was a day well spent indeed, what with your wee shop and cuddling with Vizzini!
And I knew it wouldn't be long before we got to see you wearing that baby blue leather coat.
I love Blondie too. Parallel Lines is one of my all-time favourite albums! xxx
