Jab in Black, New Mattress, and Theatre Evening

No Mom-Day today - I'd booked my booster jab for mid-day (appointments near our house were hard to find), and also had a Belfry Theatre performance that had been moved. And - as it turned out - we had our new mattress delivered as well. I missed you, Mom!

Jab outfits are always tricky because you've got to expose your upper arm.
My fall/winter wardrobe is low on short-sleeved or sleeveless tops, but I'm always up for a challenge!

  • Top - Jessica, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) in August with vintage Kenzo double denim and these same boots
  • Wool dress - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage 90s, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in December 2022 to see Mom at Christmas
  • Boots - Original Samedi, Fluevog; last worn here in October with a snaky sweatshirt and a silver min
  • Coat (below) - Halston, vintage 70s, consignment, Sidney; last seen here last week

I ended up with my sparkly purple sleeveless sweater layered under this vintage dress. Arms exposed, plus the dress was comfy for sitting in a theatre in the evening.
The black dress is the classic slip style of the 90s, done in a thick boucle (boo-CLAY, darling!) wool. And it's Dolce & Gabbana, who I will never directly give a cent (the store in Florence, Italy was very rude to us). I'll happily support my local thrift stores, though - this was a find from the much-missed The Patch several years ago.

It's got bra-style straps - I've had to tighten them up many times, as the elastic is starting to go due to age.
Black fleecy tights, plus my kick-ass purple boots, which are an exact match to the sweater, even though it doesn't quite look like it in pictures.

My booster shot was super-fast and I was in and out within 10 minutes. I enjoyed the brisk walk to town and back, getting some air and feeling the sun on my face.
I switched back to my house-clothes for the afternoon while I waited for the mattress to arrive. I spent a while giving the bedroom a deep-clean, doing a load of delicate laundry, and tidying up to make a clear path for the delivery guys.

And then I switched back to my outfit and walked down to the Fernwood Inn to meet Yvonne, Randall, Cat and Nancy for dinner, followed by "I Think I'm Fallin': The Songs of Joni Mitchell (about it here, link 'cause I love).

This is a return engagement - it first showed in Victoria in November 2016 - and Mom and I went to it! You can enjoy a wee reminisce here (it's the weekend I got my red roses upper arm tattoo - the same rose that got the vaccine jab, ha!).
I used my new-to-me scarf as a shawl while having dinner (the Fernwood is always cold!) and sitting in the theatre.

Outerwear. I'm bundled up.
It was sunny and bright during the day, but also cold - and the temps dropped once the sun went down. Brrrr! Single digits!

Incognito.
Only for the daytime portion of our program, of course.

Accoutrements:
I loved the bits of orange in the scarf and played that up with the gloves and purse.

  • Purse - consignment
  • Gloves - consignment
  • Scarf - Banana Republic, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95

The stuff:
Such fabulous boots. My feet were snuggly and happy all day and night.

Black and gold bling:
The nurse who administered my shot admired all my sparkly bits.

  • Gold shark cuff - Tom Binns, 2012, consignment
  • Gold bangle - thrifted
  • Necklace - J. Crew, thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Silver/obsidian ring - vintage mall, gift from L
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Silver/obsidian feather ring - gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1986
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's

What's that I see in my future?
Sunshine and a weekend? Bring it on!

Peace and calm to you, Gentle Reader. I'm signing off for the weekend, but please do drop in again soon so I can regale you with more tales of adventure.

  1. Jab done here too! Always such a hassle with clothes especially because it's never in summer of course, lol. But that's a beautiful dress! And the boots are perfect with them. Enjoy your weekend!

  2. At first glance the top looked like it was a part of the dress! The top’s lines meshed just right with the position of the straps on the dress. I like the purple bookends and that glorious scarf!

Yay for getting your second jab!

Tomorrow we head west to your side of the Continent and I was delighted to see that while Olympia will be coldish there isn’t as much rain forecast as I initially anticipated. Woohoo! Happy Weekend!

    Cheers, Laurie

  3. Loving that last photo of you basking in the sunshine! Those boots are fabulous, all the better for being divinely comfy to wear. A fantastic day to night with a jab in the middle outfit.
We're no longer eligible for Covid jabs (too young!) so it's a matter of keeping a polite distance when we're out and about and sanitising our hands like its 2020.
Poor Vizzini being traumatised by the new mattress but lucky for you having a bouncy new bed.
Have a fabulous weekend, my friend! xxx

  5. I'm glad to read you got your booster jab, Sheila, and I'm sure the nurse was duly impressed with your fabulous outfit, and not just with your "sparkly bits"!
Those boots are absolutely amazing! xxx
