Fancy Friday: Double Floral and a Flashback

Happy Friday, my friends! I'm so relieved it's the weekend - my brain is still feeling addled and I need some down-time.

Today, I remembered my own advice and deployed some Colour Therapy.
I built the outfit around this new-to-me teal silk blouse.

  • Blouse - Olivaceous, consignment; purchased here for $15.00
  • Skirt - Baraschi, consignment; last worn here in April 2021 with my pre-decorated Peacock Jacket
  • Shoes - Luisa Truths, Fluevog; first seen here in March with brown co-ords
  • Cerulean coat (below) - no label, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in May 2021

I'm still on the search for the Perfect Teal Blouse - this ain't it. The cut is weird: the sleeves are extra-long, it's really wide in the neck and it's very long.
I have approximately 10-12 inches of silk tucked into my skirt.

It's also tight on the arms, since I've been doing upper-body workouts. This blouse can't handle my huge muscles! (said in an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice).
The skirt is so cool - we'll have a wee Flashback on it shortly.

Outerwear. I'm done with this wool coat. It's not lined and it's itchy.
I only paid $19.99 for it and this is the 8th wearing. I'm happy with that!

Accoutrements:
I love all the colours in my new-to-me silk scarf. I'd like to know what artist this was inspired by.

  • Scarf - Metropolitan Museum of Art, thrifted; purchased here for $3.95
  • Gloves - Echo, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
LOVE these shoes! Magenta is one of my favourite colours.

Colourful bling:
Everyone loves this necklace.

  • Necklace - thrifted
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Earrings - Stella & Dot, consignment, Vancouver

Flashback: Baraschi Floral and Dot Skirt

I'd actually tried this skirt on at My Sister's Closet earlier in April 2018 when Ally (Shybiker) was in town, but had put it back. Lucky for me, a few weeks later here, it was still there...and had been marked down to $10.00!
It's a cotton (plus stretch) pencil skirt with a bit of ruching on sides of the waist (so flattering), and it's fully-lined, with the lining sewn to the hem of the skirt (I LOVE that - I hate when linings ride up or sag below a hem).

The brand is Baraschi, which is one of Anthropologie's lines. This skirt originally sold for $132.00, so the $10 was a score.
I've actually seen its twin in my second-hand travels! I love the mix of colours in the print, and the combination of dots and floral.

I wore it right away, in May 2018.
I still have that cashmere t-shirt, and we all know and love the Kermit shoes!

Although I adored this jacket with the skirt, this was in June 2018, long before bigass sleeves and shoulders came back into style. I ended up sending this jacket to my blogging buddy Wendy Brandes in New York City.
Those Fluevogs were horrible - I only wore them once or twice before I donated them. I don't know why I bought them.

As the skirt is mostly cotton, it's in my spring/summer wardrobe, but I usually manage to wear it a couple of times a season, including here in September 2018.
Vizzini's having none of it! My green lace fake Gucci (Gookey!) bomber went with everything but it was cheaply made and I just got tired of it. Ciara's loving it!

For a shopping trip in April 2019. We have all the stages of me growing out my purple hair with this skirt!
I'm wearing the cashmere tee again. I finally passed this cocoon style coat along to someone else at my recent swap/giveaway. I loved it, but again, I got tired of it and it didn't feel like me anymore.

On the other hand, I like this shemozzle of patterns in this April 2020 look. Pandemic time!
Reds and oranges look so good with the skirt. I should do another mix like this again - this really appeals to me.

Matching with the blues for a change in September 2020.
I don't wear those shoes enough (they are rather high).

And here's the last time I wore the skirt, early in last year's spring/summer season, in April 2021. That's my pre-embellished Peacock Jacket.
I totally forgot about the orange tiger top - I have an outfit waiting in the wings with it, so you'll see it again soon.

Mathy stuff: Including today, that's 8 outfits, bringing me to $1.25 per wear. I'm super-happy with that, and this skirt has loads of mileage left in it. I may have to do another Flashback in a few more years!

Do you have a favourite outfit? What would you wear with this skirt?

Wishing you all a happy and peaceful weekend! I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure!

  1. Two favorite outfits. :) The shemozzle of patterns and orange! The pre-embellished peacock jacket! The skirt is a stunner with what looks like perfect proportions.

We have another rainy-day-all-day today and I am thinking of ruthlessly going through my closet because, well, it feels good to look, decide, and keep or purge. Since retiring I find myself with changing tastes (more daring) and wanting less “stuff” both in terms of clothes and objects. I’m thinking clothes I love rather than clothes that I might need (so hold onto.) Have also learned my skin prefers soft (ideally seamless) breathable fabrics. Going with the flow of my aging body is an adventure!

Here’s to a fabulous weekend Sheila, and to you and your Mom!

  3. Love love love that skirt, the mixture of floral and polka dots is a favorite of mine! Just curious though, what about the bronze/turquoise Fluevogs didn’t work? Btw, YOU were the one who turned me on to them! We don’t see very many of those in consignment and thrift stores here, even in NYC area, so I check eBay all the time but only if sellers accept returns as I have some fit issues. Oh well😖. Trust me, I still do well, just ask my husband!

    1. Those Fluevogs hurt my feet (the patent leather had really hard edges) and the style overall was too blocky. You might want to check the Fluemarket on the Fluevog website - it brings together all sellers of 'Vogs from all over the world!

  4. Gorgeous skirt, and, as always, I love your flashbacks. I think my favorite outfit is the blues version :)

  5. That floral skirt is fabulous - I love a black floral anything - and my favourite of the outfits you created with it is the one with the shemozzle of patterns!
Hearing you on the blouse, although it does look OK. I have blouses with similar issues and in fact, I've been finding it very hard finding blouses in plain colours which tick all my boxes. Looking for a yellow one in particular at the moment.
I'm also getting why the coat needs to go. You have far better coats, Sheila! But those magenta shoes, the floral necklace and your new-to-you scarf are all fabulous!
Have a great weekend, my dear, I hope you've got some nice things planned? xxx

  7. It's a shame you don't love that teal blouse - it is such a good colour! But how it feels and feels is definitely the most important. And I really like the necklace too, you're right everyone loves it! I have a similar one I haven't worn in a while and it always gets compliments. I should try pull it out again! :) The skirt is definitely a keeper - you have worn it so well over the years!

Hope you have a wonderfully relaxing weekend!

    1. I am keeping the blouse (for now) until I find the Perfect one!

  8. Lovely skirt. I hate it too when the lining is not attached. I always put on skirts with the back at the front and then turn it. And when the linen isn't attached it doesn't turn. The skirt with the blue blouse is my favourite lol. Enjoy your Sunday!

  9. What a beautiful skirt! I enjoyed the flashback with it. The shoes you're wearing are gorgeus. It's always nice to see a statement shoe. The teal blouse is the perfect shade but you are right about the cut- it doesn't seem right. I hope you'll find your perfect teal blouse soon.

  10. What a shame about the teal blouse, off all your outfit flashbacks I liked it the most with that groovy skirt but life's too short for ill-fitting clothes! xxx

    1. I'll hang onto this blouse for a bit - it's such a great colour! It's not going into the giveaway pile yet - but I am on the lookout for a better one. Always Be Upgrading!

  11. Lovely skirt and so versatile, I like all the outfits but my favourite one was April 2020 (because Red and striped tee!, I can't resist them!).
I'm one of that everyone who loves that necklace! ;DD and Magenta is such a fab colour!

  12. This midnight garden skirt is sooo good! What an eye-catchingly beautiful piece. My blink answer as to what to partner it with is lace - specifically in black, red, or one of the blues in the skirt's blooms. A great vintage (or vintage style) sequins bedecked cardigan or sweater could be sensational here, too.
