Two-Fer: Red and Black Leather, Regret-Me-Not Snandals, and Bonnie "Prince" Billy in Ginormous Pants

I have not one, but TWO outfits to share with you today (two-fer the price of one!), as L and I joined Casey and Nick at the Capital Ballroom to see Bonnie "Prince" Billy in the evening.

And of course, I also worked today, so there's this outfit.
All leather - it's not too warm quite yet. I wanted to get a wearing in of this new-to-me skirt.

  • Top - Danier Leather, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in February with double Arola for brunch
  • Skirt - Bagatelle, vintage 80s, consignment; purchased here for $34.00
  • Shoes - Summertime Moonbeams, Fluevog, consignment; last seen here in March with a frock coat
  • Haori (below) - vintage, vintage mall, Portland; last worn here in May 2022 with orange Boss Pants

This top is a firm favourite due to it being basically a t-shirt. I'm also fond of the embellishment/beading on the shoulders.
My new-to-me textured Bagatelle pencil skirt was lovely to wear - I found myself stroking it.

It's comfy but not too tight.
I'll have to do a tucked in top to show off the nice waist next time.

I didn't feel like making much of an effort.
This long pencil length has enough of a slit for me to stride about. As one does.

I covered up with my vintage haori, which I found in a vintage store in Portland, Oregon back in 2019.
I stashed my keys in the sleeves. No pockets!

I'm happy that I have tomorrow off - it's Mom's birthday.
More excited than I look there - I have presents to wrap!

The stuff:
Comfy shoes for clomping around the office.

Silver bling:
With bits of red. I've been wearing a lot of red this week!

  • Snake bracelet - vintage mall
  • Silver/enamel bracelet - thrifted
  • Silver chain ring - Mexican, consignment
  • Silver balls ring - Sidney
  • Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment

I've been gradually giving away all of the leftover clothes from Winesday's big clothing swap to my work colleagues, but there have been no takers on these snakeskin sandals. Snandals? If we can have Snoots, we can have Snandals!
I tried them on again, and I still had feelings for them, so Regret-Me-Not, let's go for another round, Lucky Brand sandals. I last wore them here in July 2022 and have worn them 6 times. They're a rare retail purchase - deep discount at the Bay (under $26.00).

When I got home, I spent some time futzing around in my closet trying to figure out what to wear.
How about more red? Can you ever have too much red?

  • Vest - Chiqle, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) in February for a Family Day chill-out
  • Blouse - Urban Outfitters; last seen here in February 2022 in log cabin style (a post that gets a lot of attempted spam)
  • Enormous pants - See By Chloe, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) in May 2021 for Book Club in the park
  • Shoes - Pilgrim Truths, Fluevog; last seen here in April with a goldfish skirt on a weekend shop

I wanted to wear this wrap top again to assess if I love enough to keep it in my closet. For now, it's a yes.

It requires a full camisole on underneath, and a high-waisted bottom.
I threw on the acid wash denim vest for extra warmth (walking to and from town) and pockets.

These pants give such an atrocious back view.
I look like I'm smuggling bags of marshmallows in there!

Nothing to see in here but legs, though! Hee hee!
The pants have a huge box pleat at the top of each hip, on the side. They're very comfy but they wrinkle like mad and pick up lint and cat hair easily.

All ready to go.
I took my pics before we left, so that I'd still have light.

The stuff:
Comfy shoes that I don't mind picking up the gross squish of the carpets at the Capital Ballroom. Some of my shoes are intended to be well-worn.

Silver bling:
And my purse.

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, consignment
  • Crystal heart pendant - found, 2020
  • Shield ring - Nine West
  • Silver/enamel ring - antique store, Sidney
  • Silver earrings - consignment
  • Cat pin (worn on vest) - consignment

And off to the Bonnie "Prince" Billy concert. BPB is actually Will Oldham (Wiki about him here, links 'cause I love). L and I walked to town, but were early, so we popped into the Yates St. Taphouse for a drink before the show.
We sat at the bar, and had a view of all the taps - and ourselves.

I like to get to venues early, both to grab a seat (there's very limited seating in this bar) and to not have to deal with crowds going in.
We sat up on the side, overlooking the stage, with a staircase in front of us. An unobstructed view of...a chair and a mic.

The room started filling up over the next hour.
There was an odd opener, Patricia Wolf (Bandcamp link here). We originally thought she was testing the equipment on the tables, like a sound check.

Nope, that was her music - it was more like "soundscapes" (and reminded me vividly of an album we used to sell when I worked at the Christmas store in the 90s, "Deep Breakfast" by Ray Lynch, enjoy the full album here).

They cleared her tables and computer away, leaving just the chair and mic.
I did think there would be a full band.

But no, just him. He's probably best known for his song "I See A Darkness" (YouTube link here), which was covered by Johnny Cash (YouTube link here). He opened with that song, but did it much slower than that jaunty version.
He sang for an hour an a half.

His songs are plaintive and full of emotion, and he held the audience with just his voice and guitar.
Everyone was silent, just listening.

He did a couple of songs that haven't been released yet (reading his lyrics from a sheet of paper).
It was a moving show, and I very much enjoyed it.

While we were gone, Vizzini chilled out on the deck.
"I'm totally chill, yo."

He's been having some issues lately, so we've booked a vet appointment in a couple of weeks.
"You've got to be kidding."

Gotta get you checked out, little bud.

And now...off to bed.

  1. Love the photo of you and L at the bar! I saw Bonnie "Prince" Billie play at the End of the Road festival back in 2007, he was epic.
I'm glad you've got the Urban Outfitters checked blouse back, it looks fantastic. Those trousers are weird but weird in a good way if you know what I mean. The red leather skirt is fabulous with the haori, too.
I hope Vizzini is okay and that the vet puts your mind at rest. I'd forgotten what it was like to worry about a pet, I've been really distracted this week mithering about William but I think he's back to normal again now. xxxx

  2. I'm loving your "office outfit", particularly with that fabulous haori on top. And yes, I'm approving of Snandals. I might have a pair too - I actually don't remember - so that we can be Snandal twins :-)
Those enormous pants are something else, like Vix says, weird but in a good way. They look super comfortable too.
And I'm actually green with envy at you guys getting to see Bonnie "Prince" Billy, whom I absolutely love. I'm not surprised he's able to hold the audience with just his voice and guitar!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed all is well with Vizzini! xxx

  3. There's no such thing as too much red! I reckon it's one of the best colours to wear. Plus I love your bangle with the red, enamel flowers. So pretty. X

  4. I really like that first outfit! It's good you enjoyed the night out too, although I haven't heard of this musician before it's great you enjoyed the show. Really hope all is well with Vizzini.

  5. The haori adds drama to the outfit. The outfit doesn't need it, but it looks good.
