Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Funky Friday in Flounces; Thousand Dollar Sweater (and Shorts!); Leopard and Mink Party

Welcome back, my friends! I hope you're all enjoying a quiet, relaxing weekend and not being overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of this silly season.

I have three outfits to share with you, so let's kick it off with my Funky Friday outfit.
As my colleagues all start to use up their vacation time, the office is getting slower and deader.

  • Top - Frank Lyman, thrifted; first seen here in August with red Boss Pants
  • Skirt - Twinset, consignment; last worn here in October (totally not a vampire!)
  • Boots - Prepare 2.0 Tracker, Fluevog; last seen here in November with bold shoulders and orange plaid
  • Coat (below) - Mallia, consignment; last worn here on Monday

More black (this is a rough time of year), but I've tried to liven things up with some red and a bunch of flounces.
I love this embroidered mesh top - the sleeves are delightfully swoopy.

They're cut just right so that they don't drag through my food when eating.
The back is quite sheer (hello, enjoy my tattoos), so I have a black cami on.

Masked up.
The flouncy black skirt is both chair-bait and a stick magnet. I discovered a cedar branch attached to me when I arrived at work.

Outerwear. The temps are dropping!
I was pretty good in this walking to work, but was freezing on the walk home, especially around my legs. Should've worn my fleece-lined tights!

Accoutrements:
The fox-fur scarf replaces my previous grey fur scarf, which had gotten a little mangy over the past several years (it went to a new owner on the last giveaway).

  • Hat - M&S, consignment, Powell River
  • Fox scarf - thrifted
  • Leather gloves - Echo, consignment
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
I dearly love these boots - that's a low heel once you do the Shoe Math. Barely 1.5 inches.

Silver bling:
Love that big elastic belt - the buckle squeaks when I walk, so my few colleagues in the office could hear me coming.

  • Belt - thrifted
  • Leather/steel cuff - Rimanchik
  • Malachite/silver bangle - Mexican, thrifted, Sidney
  • Silver Anneke & Lars ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/onyx ring - Toccara, vintage fair
  • Silver earrings - Israel, consignment

L and I hunkered down on Friday evening (he had the day off) and played board games till the wee hours. After a generous sleep-in on Saturday, we decided just to go out and do a big grocery shop, since we won't have the time over the next couple of weeks. No brunch for us, but L picked us up tacos for lunch, so we still had our weekend treat.
This outfit is a little too wacky for the office (maybe on a Friday), but fine for a quick jaunt out.

  • Shirt - Yest; last worn here in September with a suit and sneakers
  • Sweater - J. Crew Collection, Fall 2013, thrifted; last seen here in December 2021 to see a movie with Mom
  • Short - David Brooks, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in March with matching Westwood suiting
  • Boots - Prepare Volunteer, Fluevog; last seen here in March with a rainbow skirt
  • Coat (below) - Donna Karan, consignment; last worn here a week ago

It's raining and cold.
I could just see plumes of smoke coming from the skinny chimneys. Note the wreaths on the upper balcony.

No one saw me like this, only you, Gentle Reader.
These wool (and fully lined!) shorts are pleated and wide of leg, but the pockets are enormous.

My thousand dollar sweater is a stunner - I kid you not, it retailed for $1400.00 new.
It's crusted with beading, paillettes and sequins, plus embroidery.

It's very heavy.
I wore these new tights (purchased at Dots last week for $1.99) to go with the sweater, but instead I appear to have rotting zombie legs. Into the giveaway you go!

This is how people saw me while we grocery shopped, got tacos and ran a couple of errands.
Just your totally normal grocery shopper. I was cozy and warm.

Masked up.
This furry bouff of headgear gives me hat-head. I refreshed my hair with some volumizer and hairspray for the party that evening.

Accoutrements:
I'm in love with the furry scarf - so warm!

  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Hat - M&S, consignment, Powell River
  • Gloves - Aldo, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
These boots are getting worn out, but I refuse to give them up. When am I going to find such cute grey wool boots again?

  • Earrings - vintage fair

L and I spent the afternoon watching football (the NFL kind) and getting ready while his team played in the evening (Miami Dolphins!). I did my pics as the game was ending.
I first wore this dress exactly a year ago! What a crazy time that was!

  • Dress - Joseph Ribkoff, consignment; first worn here (3rd outfit), in December 2021 for a pre-lockdown Christmas party
  • Shoes - Summertime Moonbeams, Fluevog, consignment; last seen here in October for Karen's memorial
  • Sneakers - Steve Madden, thrifted; last worn here in November for a leopard Mental Health shop
  • Mink coat (below) - vintage, thrifted; purchased here for $45.95

This dress is that stretchy "ponte" fabric.
The skirt is quite full and has a lot of movement and swoosh when I walk.
It's also quite long, so I needed to wear heels with it.

My mink coat started sliding off me here - it's so heavy!
Maybe this is why so many elderly ladies of the time were stooped over? Their mink coats dragged them down!

All bundled up and snuggly warm.
L and I took a couple of buses to get to Chris and Ali's for their party - we didn't trust cabs on the last weekend before Christmas.

Masked up. I was quite leery of how people might take my mink coat, even though it's vintage and possibly older than me - L was also concerned that he might have to fend off rabid anti-fur folks. However, after standing at a couple of bus stops (full of people) and riding two buses, I am deeply amused to report...
Oh, yeah, I'm a woman over 50, so I'm INVISIBLE to most other people. Not even a glance! I can't tell you how freeing that feels! I can wear whatever the f**k I want, ha ha!

I hope you are also amused by my dress knotting - I tied the two sides of the deep front slit together for easy walking.

Accoutrements:
We weren't sure if we'd be able to get a cab home either (we don't have Uber here), so I packed an extra toque and furry scarf in case we had to walk. I ended up just carrying both of those.

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, consignment
  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Toque - Zara, consignment
  • Gloves - Club Monaco, consignment
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

We did finally get a cab (at 1:30am!). What an excellent evening!

The stuff:
I lasted the entire party in my platform heels (and even shot some pool in them!).

  • Fang bangle - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Sidney
  • Bracelet/earrings - Alexis Bittar, consignment, gift from L
  • Silver/onyx ring - Toccara, vintage fair
  • Anneke & Lars ring - vintage mall

But I was happy to put on the sneakers at the end!

L wouldn't take his Dolphins jersey off until the game was over (the much-hated Bills won, curse them!). Don't I look impressed?
His suit is by Sisley and was bought in Florence, Italy. Shoes by Fluevog, of course.

On Sunday, we spent the day trying to stay warm, as snow flurries swirled outside.
"This is a fine day to snuggle with George."

Wishing you all a merry and bright week ahead! Thanks so much for stopping by.

  1. That was a busy weekend!
Fabulous outfits, love the embroidered mesh top with the swishy sleeves, the bank busting thousand dollar top and the leopard maxi but I can't unsee zombie legs now.
I'm laughing at your bemused face as L poses in his football shirt.
I hope the cold spell doesn't hang around for long, in the meantime keep snug with Vizzini! xxx

  2. Your party dress looks fantastic on, like it was made for you :) Lise

  3. Your office dress/ outfit is gorgeous. I know this time of year can be hard so seeing the pop of red without screaming holiday was probably appreciated. I too have tights I bought and thought they'd be fab, a pinstripe, but they just do nothing for my legs. I like feeling invisible too, no one double takes me ever.

  4. As I was on the sofa being sick the whole weekend, yours sounds like a whirlwind to me. Plus, your outfits are infinitely better than mine :-)
Friday's black combo is stunning and I'm absolutely loving those shiny red boots. And speaking of boots, I'm a big fan of Saturday's too, and I'm loving the wacky outfit. Too wacky for the office? I'm sure your colleagues must be used to "wacky Sheila" by now :-)
As for your leopard dress and mink coat, I can't quite believe you didn't turn heads. That coat is amazing, although I'm hearing you on its heaviness. I wore a short Astrakhan jacket the other week and already felt weighted down! xxx

  5. Your furry bonnet and scarf are really chic and warm. I love them.
I didn't think your new grey tights created zombie legs at all. But it is your decision. The proportions of the shorts outfit are exactly right. Well done. And what a top...such luxury.
You are right, don't give up on the grey boots, they are wonderful. Treat them with TLC.
Love the long black coat too.
You looked very beautiful in your long leopard dress although I shiver with cold looking at your bare arms. The mink coat was quite necessary. (It can be handy to be invisible, right?)
L looked very well in his great suit and Fluevog shoes.

  6. I love that you still wore the pretty thousand dollar tope even if you didn't get to show it off as you were so bundled up against the weather. You knew what you were wearing underneath and that is something to make you smile :)

I love that leopard dress too, and the coat with it! I do not like the idea of fur for me, but I cannot judge for I have a couple cow's worth of leather bags in my wardrobe. I think I'd feel differently about fur if I lived somewhere cold like you do, where it's definitely needed!

  7. I love those swoopy sleeves on your Friday outfit, too! What a clever to designer to ensure the sleeves don't trail in your food. I loved your new tights - they look like grey floral tights to me not melted zombie! The party dress was gorgeous; loved the tie up trick to walk in. Fabulous mink coat and I bet it was warm...and at least it was secondhand!

  8. I really love the first outfit! I need to find more crimson and maroon colours for my outfits, it is currently sadly lacking!

the $1400 sweater is beautiful but wow, I can't imagine being someone who had that much money for a sweater!

  9. Oooh, nice weekend! I like the idea of boardgames for so long. Our friend Nath left our house about an hour ago and he and I played Scrabble! I was very happy as he's really well matched to me in Scrabble and it was neck and neck until one point in the game and then I beat him by 99 points!
Love the flouncy sleeves and the thousand dollar top is amazing- so preeetty!x

  10. wow, lots of fab outfits to comment!, love particularly your 'thousand dollars top' with the shorts and wool boots, that's a delightful combo and you rock it!. And obviously, I'm admiring your fabulousness in your leopard dress and cool mink coat, can't understand nobody complimented you!. Too fabulous to be invisible, dear Sheila! (but glad that it feels freeing!)
    besos
