Fancy Friday: Log Cabin Style

Happy Friday, my friends! I'd planned to wear one of my new-to-me items today, but I fussed around with it and either what I wanted to wear was too snug (workin' on that) or I didn't like how it looked. So I played in my closet with not-yet-worn items for this season, and came up with this.
The full vibe reminds me of log cabins: the mini buffalo plaid check shirt, the tie-dyed leather skirt that looks like beech trees, the mix of brown tones.

  • Jacket - Gianfranco Ferre, Spring 2003, consignment; last worn here in November 2020 with this same skirt!
  • Blouse - Urban Outfitters, consignment; last seen here in February 2021 for Zoom calls with Mom, Ally/Elaine and Shelley
  • Skirt - Marc O'Polo, thrifted; last worn here in November 2020...with this jacket!
  • Boots - Vog Together, Fluevog, consignment; last seen here in February 2021 with green tweed suiting

We had glorious sunshine today, with blinding blue skies.
I like the crow on the branches in front of the Castle. What a view! (even if it is only by zoom on my camera!).

I wore this outfit thusly most of the day.
I love the cut and style of this blouse, but it's not the greatest quality.

Lots of little pulls on it, and threads hanging off.
I've said goodbye and put it in the giveaway pile. I got three outfits out of it for $23.99. Not bad. It'll go to a good home.

I laughed when I looked up the "last worn" of this leather skirt.
I have worn it only three times so far, and every single time...with the same jacket I'm wearing today!

Masked up:
I posed thusly to show off the very high slit in the skirt, but golly, that's a good pose. I'll have to remember that.

Outerwear.
This jacket is by a Classy high-end designer (Gianfranco Ferre was the head of Dior for years!), and it's 19 years old this year.
Those are bronze safety pins trimming this buffalo leather coat, all custom cast for the matching skirt too (pic of the runway look here from 2003). Wouldn't I love to find that one day?!

The jacket is made in Italy, and it weighs a ton. It's a bit of a boob-smusher, but I love how cool it is.
So classy! I met up with L after work for dinner at local Italian spot Zambri's. Best Italian food I've had outside of Italy.

Accoutrements:
Only a few things needed in this lovely weather (it's still cold out!).

  • Fur scarf - Danier, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I picked boots I could walk a few blocks in to the restaurant, and L drove us home in Vlad after.

Bold bling:
The earring match the skirt.

  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Eelskin bangle - fake Gucci, vintage 80s, gift from Mom & Dad, Italy
  • Earrings - thrifted, Sidney
  • Klimt ring - consignment
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neuman, Sweden, vintage mall

And now, my friends, I'm off for the weekend. Stay safe and be chill - I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure!

    1. I will have to practice it - I can't think too much about the poses, or I'll f**k 'em up, Sam! Thank you - I liked it too, but it's just not quite there for me.

  2. Yes, the earrings match with that skirt perfectly. It's such a cool skirt. I wore cord jeans with a similar print in high school. The designer jacket looks very couture. I love the boots, they look both stylish and comfy, always a winning combo.
    Have a great weekend!

  4. Isn't it funny that, even after many years of posing for the blog - we still have poses which work better in one's head than in real life? I've lost count of the times I'm wondering what I was thinking about :-)
The safety pin jacket and the skirt must have been made for each other, so why not wear them together more than once.
I'm definitely craving Italian food now. I'll see if Jos is up for a date :-)
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend! xxx

    1. I always have to look at my 3D poses in 2D to see how they look onscreen - it's often very different. I find that any time I stretch my limbs, it looks good.

They really were! I'll have to try splitting them up at some point, but why mess with a good thing. Our food was fantastic, yum! Happy weekend, Ann!

  5. It's a shame you weren't feeling whatever new piece you tried to wear, but you created a wonderful outfit with other pieces instead! I can see why you wear the skirt and jacket together often, they are a great combination! And that red wrap top is so pretty - it's a shame you're letting it go but it sounds like the quality isn't there for you to want to keep it and that's completely understandable!

    1. Yeah, it was the floral sweater I bought in Powell River - it just did not look right on. Thanks, Mica! The quality on the top was very poor, sadly.

  6. That jacket is another amazing designer piece you scored and it looks very good with that skirt - and great on you too! I would be interested to know how you are (workin' on that) as I have some snug pieces too! Not unusual coming out of winter but the last two years of winter weight were not shed entirely :-(

    1. It's even more amazing in person, Robin! Thank you! My "workin' on that" is:
      - personal trainer - setting up alternate day exercises for upper body and core strengthening using my body weight; cardio/walking at a quick(er) pace.
      - food - I used to work for Weight Watchers (WW) so I go back to my tracking/0 Points foods.

  7. I love wrap blouses like that a lot, have 2 by DvF. The skirt looks like a sort of tie dye. We have a authentic Italian restaurant not far for us and I'm hoping to eat there soon. So many flavours in Italian food. Enjoy your Sunday!

    1. I have a DVF one too, Nancy! The skirt IS tie-dye (the back of the leather is also dyed like this).

Oh, how nice - I hope you can get out soon for a nice dinner!

  9. That's definitely good pose!!!! I might try that one, slit or no slit!
Shame about the top (I snorted at Log cabin vibes!)
What did you eat at the Italian?
Best Italian I've eaten at was one near Mile End, Stratford, East London. The prawns were ENORMOUS and plentiful!

    1. Thanks, Kezzie! Eh, I didn't pay much for it, and I knew it wasn't going to be a "forever" piece.

I had: crispy broccoli (shared w/L) tossed with parmesan; cauliflower fritters with truffle aioli and lemon-dressed rocket/arugula; beef stuffed ravioli; chocolate flourless cake with candied cherries.

      Yum, I love prawns!

  10. woww, no wonder you've worn this skirt and jacket together previously, they Rock!, totally fabulous leather skirt, which fits like a dream, and even more fabulous jacket. Actually, I have a weakness for this jacket, a favourite piece!, lots of attitude and rock'n'roll (And Pins).
Lovely shirt too, this is an interesting shape and colour which enhances the fabulousness!. Rocking it, dear Sheila!

    1. When you find a good formula, you have to repeat it! Thank you - I remember that you love this jacket (you and I both have rock in our souls!).

Thanks! I'm not keeping it, but I liked it while it lasted.

  12. Awesome outfit! It is giving me the best woodland cabin vibes.

The bird in front of the castle makes for a frame-worthy photo. What an awesome shot and sign (both in terms of the feathered friend and return of sunshine) that spring is gradually coming out of hibernation again.

(Albeit, not so much around these parts, where we are in the midst of another cold snap. Thankfully though, it's not too brutal this time around. Last I saw, I think the lowest they're calling for is around -18 or -20. It really is incredible, isn't it, how two spots just a few hours distance apart in the same province can experience such different temps/weather?)

    1. Thank you, Autumn! I enjoy taking shots of the Castle from our rare vantage point.

It's cold here now (for us!). I'm ready for spring - bring it on!
