Haori, Orange Boss Pants and Cantilevered Shoes

I read somewhere that "orange is the new pink" - as in, a colour that everyone is wearing. It's bright, it's happy. It's none more orange!
*ahem* Can you tell I like orange?

  • Haori - no label, vintage, vintage store, Portland, OR; last seen here in April 2021 for a Zoom call happy hour
  • Sleeveless sweater - INC, thrifted; last worn here in January layered over a blouse
  • Trousers - Long Tall Sally, consignment; last seen here in March with leopard and velvet
  • Shoes - Estefan Entity, Fluevog; purchased here for $179.00 at the Fluevog sample sale
  • Poncho (below) - Welsh, thrifted; last worn here a few weeks ago

The view of the Castle this morning - I noticed smoke coming up from the chimneys, floating straight up.
And that was the last of the calm. We've been having crazy winds, with gusts of 90km. Trees are down everywhere, and I fear for our Gary Oaks and maples, and other massive trees in our 'hood.

I built this outfit around the Big Lady Boss Pants - my VP (who I executively-assist) was in today, and I wanted to look profesh for her.
Love the pockets! Isn't the colour stunning? It's so vivid.

My vintage haori was bought on vacation in Portland, Oregon in 2019.
I layered a sleeveless sweater under it.

The haori is lined in silk with a thicker outer layer, so it was very comfortable.
I adore the black and cream print, which reminds me of woodcuts, elevation maps and JRR Tolkien's illustrations. It has bits of blue, green and orange in it, which I often match to when I wear it.

Masked up:
Surprisingly, these sleeves do not get in the way. Bonus!

Outerwear - nope, should have worn my black sleeveless coat.
Poncho fail! It was a pain walking home in the wind carrying a couple of bags of groceries in this. Sheila grumpy!

Accoutrements:
I needed a bigger scarf - the wool poncho was itchy on my neck.

  • Silk scarf - vintage, consignment
  • Gloves - consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
These shoes were shockingly comfortable, but I won't be walking to town in them or wearing them if I'm standing for hours, but they were fine for a day in the office. I walked to the post office and the drugstore in them, in fact. The cantilevered heel is perfectly balanced - I never once felt tippy, even dashing for a light at the crosswalk.

I showed them off to a bunch of people to rather "Whoa" reactions - fashion building buddy Emily nearly fell out of her chair when she saw them, and another coworker took a picture of them.

Complimentary bling:
See? Bits of green that theoretically go with the poncho.

  • Belt - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Fang cuff and earrings - Alexis Bittar, consignment, gift from L
  • Glass bangle - thrifted
  • Steel/acrylic ring - Calvin Klein, thrifted
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Enameled bangles - thrifted

I wished I'd worn a black belt, but oh well. Tomorrow is another outfit!

  3. Yes to orange and woodcut patterned haoris! That outfit is an instant pick-me-up and it's looking profesh at the same time. Those shoes are truly something else, no wonder Emily nearly fell out of her chair. And I do hope your VP was duly impressed! xxx

  8. Bring on the orange! My fall obsessed heart can never get enough of this hue that can span the spectrum from shockingly vibrant to muted and aged (i.e., rust or faded autumn leaves).

What a stellar outfit! Love the portiorions and choice of scarf that you opted for.

I really hope that your neighbourhood managed to escape those mighty winds relatively unscathed. We had quite the gale force here mid-month, too, but it didn't escalate quite as severely as what you endured on the Island.

  9. Amazing shoes. So good. They remind of a Dutch brand with funny heels, United Nude. If you google their name, you'll spot it immediately.
    I love haoris and kimonos.
