Black and White, and Green All Over

I'm having to get creative with layering to stay warm enough - it peaked at a tepid 11 degrees today (that's ~54 for you folks in the US). It doesn't feel like May, and I'm starting to get cranky about it! "First world problems," I know.

I'm still happy to get a wearing in of a sweater dress this late in the cold weather season.
I thought for sure that I'd be wearing this without a layering piece under it for spring/summer.

  • Dress - Zara, consignment; first worn here in March for St. Paddy's Day
  • Shirt - J. Crew, thrifted; last seen here in August 2021 with Boss Shorts
  • Shoes - Sol Sana; last worn here in April as dotted bookends
  • Coat (below) - Sisley, consignment; last seen here in March

I'll have to try to sneak in another wearing when it's warm, as I'm assuming it eventually will be.
I layered my polka dotted shirt underneath today, and I have nylons on.

I actually loved wearing this funky dress again. It was great in the office, and did not even try to roll into my chair wheels.
You certainly couldn't miss me in it!

I love mixing black and white prints.
I'm bookending yet again here with dotty patterns.

Masked up - add another black and white pattern with my mask.
I'm like that old joke: What's black and white and read/red all over? Only green all over...which doesn't lend itself to puns well.

Outerwear and incognito.
Would today be the day I strip off my gloves and scarf and carry my leather coat home?

Nope. I was snapped up and en-gloved until the end.
I'm sure I'll be complaining about the heat soon enough, but I am feeling rather envious of those of you out there in your pretty sundresses.

Accoutrements:
Another pattern, but this one is colourful. And designer - so classy!

  • Scarf - Yves Saint Laurent, vintage, thrifted
  • Gloves - Danier Leather
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
These shoes go with everything, and they're so comfy. I do hate the fussy little buckles, though - how we suffer for fashion! Hee!

Light bling:
I "tie-d" one on, har har. The tie is silk and another classy designer.

  • Tie - Escada by Margaretha Ley, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Round ring - Nine West
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Earrings - Fossil, thrifted

  1. More bookends, yay! I thoroughly enjoy this outfit, the bold color and diagonal stripes of the dress, the polka dots above and below, the tie, the jewelry, the outerwear…every single aspect gets me nodding YESSS!

Hearing your frustration with the temperatures! We alternate between cool nights (still have winter blankets and flannel sheets on the bed) and, by late afternoon, warmer days. We only *just* turned off the furnace a few days ago, perhaps the latest date ever for us. I like to think this means summer will be warm but not grueling in terms of heat; wouldn't that be nice!

  2. That dress looks fabulous on you, Sheila, and no, I'm sure you couldn't be missed! Love the dotty bookends and the pattern mixing with your tie and mask. And the scarf, obviously, which is seriously swoon-worthy! xxx P.S. My efforts to send you some of our excess temperature (we are very close to 30°C) has apparently failed :-(

  3. So brilliant layering of this groovy dress, the blouse and shoes make such a fab bookending!.
Hoping that you can wear this dress by itself soon. We're having unseasonably hot temperatures, 33ºC on May! which I don't enjoy too much. Crazy weather everywhere!

  4. Sheila your outfits are the highlight of my day! I live in Hawaii now (grew up in PoCo)-- and while you are pining for sundresses..... I am missing sweaters!! Love all the glorious layers- but don't worry your summer weather will be there soon :)

  5. I like the polka dots with the stripes! It's a shame that your weather isn't cooperating! It was a really warm autumn here - despite a few cold days with the rain and floods. I'm hoping it doesn't mean that winter sticks around just as long as summer seemed to later in the year!

  6. While it was a bit strange to experience a Victoria Day long weekend this year that didn't boast weather that leant credence to why we Canadians so often view that point on the calendar as summer's unofficial start, I must admit, a sizable part of me is actually really loving the continued cooler temps. (Not to mention the fact that it is helping to keep wildfire season from running utterly rampant again - though, chances are, that will happen soon enough no matter what.)

Still, that said, it will certainly be lovely to savour some sizzling hot temps again - and, moreover, those perfectly warm, but not brutally so, summer nights that are will forever remain one of my favourite things we humans are blessed to be able to experience.

Super fun ensemble! Love your 1980s text print tie. Tres chic + eye-catching!
