I mustered the effort last night and put together enough outfits for this work-week, including this grey ensemble.
My colleague Simona squawked, "GREY??" when I responded to her query of what bright colour I was wearing today.
- Sweater - Iris Setlakwe, thrifted; last seen here in March with rainbow pleats
- Skirt - Lauren Vidal; purchased here for $9.99
- Shoes - Marc Jacobs, vintage 90s, thrifted; last worn here in June 2021 with vintage Etro
- Leather coat (below) - Elizabeth & James, consignment; last seen here in April
I know - grey! So unlike me!
But both pieces are special, and I do have bits of blue in there to break things up a bit. The sweater is so lovely - such great quality.
The sheer sleeves are silk and the body of it is fine wool. I love the neckline detail with the attached mock-neck.

The skirt is a new-to-me clearance item from Dots. For $9.95, I wasn't going to leave a shiny sequined animal print behind!
It's made in Italy too, and fully-lined. I really like the length and shape of it - I felt very flapper-ish today.

Masked up - more snakeskin.
I'll be putting this skirt into my fall/winter wardrobe - the greys will be much more useful then. I even have wooly grey boots!

Outerwear, incognito. We had blue skies the exact colour of this jacket, but it was really windy.
"Yes, you look like you need a good brushing, Woman."
Vizzini's been very grumpy lately - he loves the sun and hot temps, both of which have been in short supply!
Accoutrements:
- Scarf - Fluevog
- Gloves - consignment
- Mask - by Mom
- Lucite/silver cuff - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
- Steel cuff - thrifted
- Silver/sodalite ring - Scotland, 1996
- Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
- Earrings - local
So...one reason I won't be keeping my sequined snakeskin out is that it DESTROYED my nylons.
"I could help you rip them some more..."
The lining of the skirt doesn't go past the hem, so a million tiny touches of the rough edge of the sequins on my legs as I walked, sat and moved around over 9 hours...
…equals one pair of no-good-for-nothin' nylons. These were on their last legs anyway (pun intended), as they had a run on the thigh. Still, I could have gotten a few more wears out of them - nylons are not cheap!
I'll have to remember to either wear this skirt with boots, or with a pair of tights I don't care about. It is an Eater of Hosiery!
"I'm helping!"
Yes, you are, Vizzini. You've been very helpful while I tried to take pictures.
"I deserve a tummy rub."
Such a cutie!
You look lovely in grey! The skirt is a beautiful find, and this is such a great look on you.

You look fantastic in this grey and blue combo. I love the skirt.
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd still have a pop of color and sparkle even with gray. Those shoes deserve to be noticed.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly managed to make grey look decidedly un-boring! Gorgeous combo, and the pops of blue are just perfect with it. Bad hosiery eating skirt, though! But I'm secretly glad to read I'm not the only one (still) wearing nylons! xxx
ReplyDeleteLove it. IF you lived close, I would put a lining on the sequin trim!
ReplyDeleteYou have such beautiful grey pieces that I'm not surprised you wanted to wear them together in a neutral outfit with a few bits of colour with blue - even if lack of colour doesn't seem very Sheila, the individual pieces sure are! Such a shame that the skirt is a destroyer of tights though!
ReplyDeleteWell, you managed to make grey look stylish! Good job!
ReplyDeleteEven though grey isn't your usual colour, the outfit looks great on you, especially with those shoes. What a shame about your tights. You will have to find a solution for that. Perhaps glue a ribbon on the inside of the hem?

Eh, I can't be bothered. I'll probably just pass it along.
DeleteMr. Kitty's quip that he could "help you rip them up some more" had me in stitches! :D
ReplyDeleteToo bad stitches can't really save the day when a pair of nylons gets that trashed. I'm sorry that happened to you. Hopefully, the thrift store powers that be will deliver a new pair or two your way for bargain basement prices to help make up for the loss of these ones.
I ADORE your grey (with pops of blue) ensemble. It is serene, glamorous, and entirely beautiful - plus, it makes me think of the colours one sometimes witnesses when a storm rolls in over the Pacific Ocean (or, Okanagan Lake, for that matter :D).

As a fan of wearing grey, I totally approve of this outfit. I've always liked that sweater because of the neck detail. The pops of blue are lovely. I haven't worn nylons for years - it's either tights/leggings or bare legs for me.
ReplyDeleteGrey? Not a colour I associate with you at all Sheila, but I can see why you've gone with this. The skirt looks lovely although such a pain to rip your stockings to pieces. I can't believe you're still wearing gloves in May. My linens are in the mix currently and no jackets most of the time. Hope you get some warmer weather soon x
