Funky Friday: New-to-Me Neoprenes

Happy Friday, my friends! A special shout-out to my coworkers Fiona and Shelley, as they reminded me this week that they read my blog.

Today's outfit falls firmly into the Funky Friday folio (don't you love a good run of alliteration?).
And welcome to Bad Lighting Season. Moving along...

  • Jacket - Zara, consignment; purchased here for $9.00
  • Turtleneck - M&S, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in March layered under a grey bubble dress
  • Skirt - Richard Quinn x Debenhams, consignment; purchased here for $62.99
  • Shoes - Lena Parfait Luxury Freeze, Fluevog; last seen here (3rd outfit) in November 2020 with my bark skirt
  • Snakeskin coat (below) - River Island, consignment; purchased here for $71.99

This was why I had crappy light this morning - fog!
If you stare at the little light, the shape of the Castle will appear.

I paired up my two new-to-me neoprene pieces: the skirt that L bought for me on the weekend, and this black jacket that I found last July.
I swapped out the matchy black belt for my dark red one.

I needed a bold top to go with this bold bottom. Check out those shoulders! Badass!
I love the long length on this pencil skirt - happily, the slit at the back is nice and big so that I can stride about like a Boss.

I was really happy with this skirt overall - it was easy to wear, although I'd forgotten that neoprene doesn't breathe.
Lace tights to pull the black down to the booties.

Without the jacket - and with special guests! L is leaving for work and Vizzini is looking on sadly.
I wore this hot pink cotton turtleneck to help ground the skirt. The colours in the skirt are like the divisive dress I wore a few weeks ago (this one). Red, coral, orange, pink...what colour IS it?

Masked up - this one is dark red and cerise.
I had a super-busy day, but it flew by. I saw a few of my coworkers and pranced around in my funk outfit for them.

  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

Outerwear - my third new-to-me item is this faux snakeskin trench. Isn't it amazing? Since it rained all day, I figured I'd test it out and see how it performed in bad weather. Verdict: excellent.
It also stayed shut really well, considering it has no buttons or snaps. I had my backpack on (carrying my boots) and carried two heavy bags of groceries home after work - I was worried it would work its way open, but nope, all secure.

Accoutrements:
The cashier at the grocery store really liked my red accents.

  • Hat - vintage 80s, thrifted, Vancouver
  • Silk scarf - fake Louis (Lewis!) Vuitton, thrifted
  • Gloves - Cejon, thrifted

The stuff:
I KNOW. They are monsters, aren't they? But they are shockingly comfortable. Do the Shoe Math - they are only 2.5 inches, and that front platform is very squishy. They are a bit of a wrestle to get off, as there's no zip and that black neoprene on the front is not very stretchy. They say "Tasty" on one boot and "Freeze" on the other.

Red bling:
I'd forgotten about this crystal heart pendant - I found it on the sidewalk just after Karen died, and carried it in my coat pocket for months until I put in with my pendants and charms. This is its first wearing.

  • Belt - Gap, thrifted
  • Silver/onyx ring - Toccara, vintage fair
  • Klimt ring - consignment
  • Earrings - Tania Gleave
  • Crystal heart - found item

Wishing you all a peaceful weekend. I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure.

  1. Vibrant! Sums up your outfit and antidote for a gray day. :) Now let’s talk about those shoes! They are definitely interesting, unusual and eye grabbing. Still, I cannot fathom walking about, let along prancing about in 2.5 inch heels (even after the shoe math!) Ankle support? Oof, how my shoe mindset has changed! ;)

Oh, your backstory for the crystal heart is special and soothing, like a hug and a knowing smile.

    Here’s to the weekend!

    1. I felt very vibrant, Laurie! Aren't they amazing shoes? I knew the second I put them on that I would have them. They are shockingly comfy, like most Fluevogs.

I know, I love that I have that association with the crystal heart. Cheers!

Hope you are having a good weekend :) We went out to a market day this morning and the kids enjoyed the petting zoo.

  3. L has excellent taste, that skirt he got for you is fabulous. Wonderful tonality, to me it looks mostly like red, but I can see how it could look hot pink or orange red in different lighting.

These boots with pink accents are fantastic. Platform shoes can be surprisingly comfy.Have a great weekend.

    1. Isn't it cool? Although I picked it out and would have bought it for myself, until he swooped in and insisted on paying. :)

Thanks! I so agree. I hope you had a good weekend, too, Ivana!

  4. I used to wear long narrow skirts when I dressed up for work each day. They were a sort of uniform for me. Your's has so much more going on and gives the right kind of attention. Tight weather again!.

  5. How lovely to have colleagues reading your blog! I very much doubt that my one and only colleague ever does - she has a total lack of interest in clothes, for one - but Kris, my ex-colleague does!
Isn't the waning light a horrible thing for us bloggers? I'll soon have to revert to weekend outfit photos only. I love a bit of fog, though, so atmospheric, and yes! I can see the castle!
That skirt looks fantastic on you, and what a gorgeous colour it is. Your styling with the hot pink turtleneck, black jacket and dark red belt is impeccable. And that's before I notice the lacy tights and those boots, not to mention your fabulous faux snakeskin trench.
Wishing you a most wonderful weekend, my friend xxx

    1. I know, it makes me feel close to them. :) I have a lot of colleagues (well over 500 in my province). So nice.

It really sucks - my prime photo time is a disaster as the days get shorter. I'm glad you can see the castle, Ann!

Thank you so much - I really liked this outfit and loved that trench. I hope you had a great weekend too, my dear!

  8. What a wonderful story about your heart pendant.
Gah, not keen at all on that fog or the shortening of the days!
The River Island mac looks brilliant on you and I love those boots. You look about 6 foot tall in that skirt!
Hope you had an amazing weekend. xxx

    1. It went with the poem "I carry your heart" by ee cummings that made me think of her and Nick. I couldn't get that out of my head.

I like fog, but not the dark dreary horrid photo days!

Isn't it cool? Thanks so much - I felt like an amazon! I did, and hope you and Jon and the lads did too, Vix!

  11. Gorgeously glam ensemble! Just the think to help cut a swath of colour (and dazzling style) through even the greyest of days. We've been getting a fair bit of fog around these parts lately, too. I don't mind in the slightest, as living deep in a fairly narrow valley makes fog something of a rarity and I definitely miss seeing it at times.

Big hugs & the very happiest of one-week-until Halloween wishes,
