Shop With Vero: WIN and Fluevog Finds

Instead of my weekly Mom-Day, I booked shopping time with Veronique today - we haven't shopped together in maybe five years, and she and I both had birthday Fluevog gift cards!
I also planned to stop by the big WIN (Women In Need) store on my way down, so I was up early and I wore clothes for shopping in.

  • Leather jacket - Burberry, consignment; last worn here in January with yesterday's skirt
  • Leather "Buffy" slip dress - vintage 90s, thrifted; last seen here in November 2020 for brunch
  • Sweater - Zara, pass-along from Rae; last worn here in March with a velvet jungle bomber
  • Boots - Mamzelle, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) for shopping on my birthday

I started with the sweater Rae gave me a couple of years ago - I hoped she would be working at the Fluevog store today, and she was!
My fabulous vintage 90s "Buffy" dress. I've had it so long it's back in style!

I took my jacket off briefly while I shopped in the Fluevog store, and afterwards when Vero and I went to Bubby Rose for coffee.
That's a new pair of sweater tights from a previous Dots shop that I've twisted. D'oh!

Masked up.
I'm proud that my city has an 89% double vaccination rate - woo! - but we still have to wear masks in public places indoors.

I wore my new hat from Tammy right away! She was worried I didn't really like it because I picked it so quickly, but I've been looking for a nice warm black hat like this for a while.
It was wonderful - we had very high winds and some rain.

Accoutrements:
This is also the first wearing of this new-to-me scarf. I liked how all the colours worked together - not too gloomy.

  • Scarf - thrifted; purchased here for $3.95
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Mask - by Mom
  • Hat - Catawumpus, gift from Tammy

The stuff:
Good boots for walking! Also, easy to take off for trying on shoes.

Brassy bling:
I'd forgotten about my bug pendant (it has trees on the other side). I've had it for years.

  • Brass/leather cuff - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Poe "Nevermore" cuff - Jezebel Charms, gift from L
  • Leather heart brooch - Smoking Lily
  • Feather ring - Fossil, thrifted
  • Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy
  • Brass earrings - LA Express, vintage 90s

I took my camera with me for my walk downtown.
I like these pumpkins.

And these beautiful yellow and green trees.
I love this time of year - I happily scuffed through mounds of leaves.

This giant mural has the two guys from "The Honeymooners" - the second set of windows is painted.
I remember when this was done - my Dad really liked it, as he drove past it on his way home from work every day.

It's by Robert Scott Dobie, a local artist.
You can read about the vintage building (currently a hostel) it's on here (link 'cause I love).

The WIN store is right around the corner.
I was thrilled to note that they are open on Saturdays again! Hooray!

At this point, I completely forgot I had a camera and became immersed in my 2-hour mental health shop.

Let's see what I bought, shall we?
This white metal necklace caught my fancy, and I liked this unusual bracelet.

It's part gold metal, with a big actual stone, and a dual chain "strap."
There is a little gold feather hang-tag, but I have no idea what make it is.

The necklace is cool - I like the exaggerated hearts. There are no marks or stamps on it either.
They were $7.95 each.

I found a new pair of sheepskin slippers!
Black, and soft as kittens.

They are by Morland's of Glastonbury, "Established 1870", and are made in England.
They do have light wear, but that doesn't bother me - they fit perfectly and felt amazing.

They were $34.95.
I have bought sheepskin slippers new - they are not cheap. Ah, there we are (link here), we can match - they are called the Seaforth and they are 66 pounds (that's $112.00 Canadian).

I really liked this belt.
The circle and oval discs are a bronze/brass finish metal, and the circles are a dense plastic, like Lucite.

The "links" are actually thick elastic. The clasp thing seems hand-cast and it's linked with a piece of leather.
$6.95 felt like a bargain. I think it's from the 90s or early 00s.

As always in this new normal, we can't try things on anymore at WIN, so the only clothes I will buy are either so good or so cheap that I can't resist.
This is a gorgeous woven wool skirt, fully lined.

Here's a better look at the colour.
It's rich orange, true red and black. I have a lot of these colours in my wardrobe.

The back has a kick pleat instead of a slit, which is a mark of quality.
It also has loops for hanging, leading me to think this might have had a matching jacket at some point.
It has a snap and a wide hook/eye and a side zip (plastic) - this is probably from the 1960s.

Could I leave it for only $5.00??
No, I could not.

But would it fit?
Yes, it did! I'm also modeling my new slippers for you, and the stretchy link belt.

I decided that I don't like the satin dark green skirt that I have (this one) and bought an upgrade.
I love pleated skirts, this is a better colour and it's SO much more swooshy.

And although it's polyester, it feels like such better fabric - the other skirt felt cheap.
The colour is pine. Of course it is.

It's by Da-Rue Petite for Draper's & Damon's, Ladies fashions since 1927. Draper's & Damon's still exists (it's firmly targeted to 50+ women).
I couldn't find anything about Da-Rue (French for "the street") aside from "Da-Rue of California" being a store in LA. Anyway, it has an elastic waist and this 50+ woman is happy with that, and the $9.95 price tag!

I figured there would be a good chance it would fit.
"What did you bring me?"

I can't wait to wear this and swoosh around in it!

I found a pair of new thermal socks for $5.95.
And a pair of new opaque tights for $1.95. Awesome.

This was my treasure. I saw the pattern and colours from a mile away, and gasped.
The colours are lime, grape, pink and dark green (pine!), plus white and red.

It's by YSL, which as we all know, is Yves Saint Laurent. It was priced accordingly at $36.95, which I happily paid.
Although there are no tags, it is silk, and the edges are hand-rolled. It's likely from the 1980s - I found similar vintage YSL silk scarves on resale sites for $100-800.

Yes, I am happy with my $36.95 YSL scarf.
I love that I have multiple coats it will look good with too!

Flush with my shopping, I met up with Vero at the Fluevog store. You can see me in the mirror taking the picture!
She waffled over these silver boots - spending that much money (~$400) on a pair of shoes can be daunting! Even with a gift card, that's a big leap when you're used to buying cheaper shoes.

Me, I have no issues, but my gift cards from Mom and L covered my shoes completely - thank you, Mom and L! I love them!
These are the Go Groovy Aubrey, in orange. I tried on about six different styles just to see how the new ones fit, what size I am. I have a couple that I'm still eyeballing and will wait until they go on sale (likely in the new year).

They have pink buckles.
They are leather - and that's a very comfy heel. My Husymans black boots are the same family (last seen here).

I like the touch of pink lame (lah-MAY!) inside.
And the bright orange rubber soles.
These were marked down to $249.99, so I actually have a bit of money left on my gift card!

Vero is going to think about these amazing silver booties - they don't even have the silver online!
I say get them! Oh, and I'm a total Fluevog enabler. Heh.

  1. I love the wool skirt you got - so many great finds but I really like that one and it's great it fit you too! I have mixed success when I don't have time or patient enough kids to try thing son at opshops!

I really like the shoes you got - even if Vero didn't buy any it sounds like it was a fun time together shopping for the shoes!

  2. Thanks for taking us with you on your walk downtown. :) Like you, I find this time of year delightful for the usually fresh, cooler air and the pops of color from the trees and seasonal decorations.

As for your finds from WIN, they each seem perfect! Actually, that goes for your Fluevogs too! Definitely a successful shopping outing on all fronts. :-) Plus, there's the side benefit of hooking up with Vero. Shopping with someone who appreciates shopping and talking about items, well, that's the benefit of buddies. I have one friend who I can schmooze with on this topic but, LOL, Fred can only take so much and then he lets me know it's not really his interest. ;-)

Here's to a glorious weekend Sheila!

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. I love all the colours and the crisp air - it's a pretty time here.

I am really happy with all of my purchases, Laurie. And so nice to connect with her one-on-one. Yes, L is like that too - he doesn't really want to talk fashion or clothes, but will listen patiently for a little while. It has rubbed off on him, though - he's gotten very stylish.

    1. Thanks, Greetje! I know, I'm pretty excited about that scarf - it felt like a deal. I got my Balmain scarf for around the same price and have worn it dozens of times.

Just posted the outfit with them!

  4. I enjoyed coming along on your walk into town, and how lovely to see the WIN shop too! And wow, didn't you do well? I'm loving both skirts, the YSL scarf and the belt in particular! The shoes you bought in Fluevog are to die for. I've never bought expensive shoes, so I know exactly how it was daunting for Vero to chose a pair. I wonder if she'll follow you advice and buys the silver boots ... xxx

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Ann! I live in a cool city. I had such a good shop, right? I thought of you with the belt. I'm well over that hurdle (ha ha) - expensive shoes are worth it. They last longer and they are more comfortable.

I hope so - they are only at that location!

How exciting that you went shopping with a girlfriend, I haven't done that for an absolute age but fuunily enough an old friend messaged me this morning and we've made plans for a fortnight's time. Bring the vintage shopping on!
How cool is that painted building? I bet it made your Dad smile every time he walked past.
Those slippers are great, Morlands made some fabulous footwear and sheepskin jackets, proper good quality.
The new Fluevogs are spectacular! xxx

    1. Thanks, Vix! I love that jacket.

It was so fun shopping with Vero - I'm glad you are getting out with your friend too! Can't wait to see what you find!

It did - he loved the illusion.

I like the slippers, but have learned to not wear them barefoot - they turned my soles black! I know why they were donated, ha ha!

      Thanks!

  7. Stellar finds. The two skirts leapt out at me in particular and I must say, both look especially becoming when partnered wit the mustard/saffron hued top you're sporting with them in these snaps.

Love the photos from within a shoe shop. It's clear you two were having a blast. Awesome choice for your latest Fluevogs. You'd be hard pressed to find a more fall time perfect pair of orange heels.

  8. You're definitely "a Fluevog enabler" -- it was you who got me interested in the brand (and I now own several pairs). Continuing the chain, I've been encouraging others (usually when they admire my shoes in public) to explore the offerings.

  11. What a great shopping trip - you had some great finds. (The green skirt made me think of your saying - Always be upgrading.) And your new shoes are excellent.

It's good that you still hav e to wear masks indoors. We don't over here, and the 'rona rate is terrifying.

I am happy with the restrictions we have in place. They are reassuring, as things open up a bit.

  12. Your Buffy dress has always been a favourite piece of mine in your wardrobe. I'm a total enabler when it comes to shopping, as I am always the one coming away with all the stuff. I love those silver shoes, and I have paid Fluevog prices for shoes but have ended up with ones that I can't wear now, so I have to seriously think about how comfortable they are and how long will I have them in my closet.
