Two-Fer: Discombobulated Dentist; Funky Friday in Mustard and Red Leopard

Hello, my friends! We have two "fer" the price of one today - a double outfit post as we go into what looks to be a very summery weekend here on BC's west coast.

I certainly felt all your good wishes during my bi-annual visit to the periodontist yesterday. I had everything timed to walk there, get my happy pill, and then wait half an hour for it to kick in...and when I arrived, found out I'd confused my times (they'd rescheduled with me last week) and shown up an hour early!
Well, I felt pretty silly. However, I just wandered around the mall across the street, and looked in a bookstore, and then it was appointment as usual. I'm usually discombobulated AFTER my session, not before!

  • Blazer - Emporio Armani, vintage 90s, thrifted; last seen (and Flashbacked) here in June 2020 with navy tulle
  • Silk blouse - Bird by Juicy Couture, thrifted; last worn here in September 2020 with blue bookends
  • Linen trousers - Sigrid Olsen Essentials, vintage 90s, thrifted; purchased here for $34.99
  • Shoes - Down to Earth Hadfield, Fluevog; last seen here in October 2020 with an orange jumpsuit

Since I spend close to two hours upside-down in a dental chair during my appointment, my outfits have to be very comfortable. I also walked to my appointment (about 30 minutes), so easy shoes were in order.
The new-to-me trousers are getting their first wearing since my December 2020 out-of-season purchase. I used to loathe linen, but since I've owned a steamer, I've become much friendlier towards it.

Aren't they a glorious shade of orange?
They are full-length, but for this outing, I rolled the cuffs three times to give them a trendy cropped silhouette.

Jacket off, although I didn't take it off until I was home again.
I began this outfit with the shoes and trousers, then hunted for a top that would go - I liked how this soft grey-ish blue worked.
As you can see, the trousers are very high-waisted, and also that I found a blue belt that matches the blouse. My matchy heart sang with glee!

My "not impressed" face. Don't like getting my teeth done...
I like this slouchy look - this is often how I stand in real life. Like, "Yeah, what do you want?"

Masked up - I had a hard time finding one that went with the outfit.
I felt like a brilliant parrot as I wandered the corridors of the mall, among the beige, black and grey-clad mallgoers.

Outerwear stuff - just a mask.
Nothing else needed, as our temps soared up to 22 degrees. What a treat!

  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
These shoes are awesome for walking. Of course, I have to wear the matching scarf, looped through my ponytail elastic.

Broken bling:
As you can see, one of my earrings broke in half. My mask pushed it off my ear (they're clip-ons) and it clattered to the sidewalk. These are super-light wood and I paid only $2.00 for them at a Vintage Expo years ago, but I still love them and want them to last. I'll be using a dab of Zap-a-Gap super-glue to fix them and they'll be good as new.

  • Silk scarf - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Belt - Lady Foot Locker, vintage, thrifted
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Plastic ring - vintage 60s, Italian, vintage mall
  • Wooden earrings - vintage expo

One last stair shot as I gazed out at the blue blue blue sky.
I just want my dental appointment to be over! Thanks to Mom for picking me up and patiently nodded as I mumbled incoherently. I crashed into bed and slept for 3 hours. Much appreciation to L for making dinner, too. I'm always in a groggy state for a day or so after my happy pill.

Friday finally! And whatever shall I wear? Well, I should make an outfit with my new shoes, dontcha think?
These yellow and white lace-ups are such an awesome colour and style, yet I don't have a ton of mustard in my spring/summer wardrobe. But then I remembered this fun silk/blouse!

  • Blouse - Hoss, consignment; last seen here in July 2020 with my gold leather "space pants"
  • Skirt - Ports 1961, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) for Book Club at Mindy's with stripes
  • Shoes - Homers; purchased here for $154.50
  • Jacket (below) - Smashed Lemon; last worn here with my full suit for my last dental appointment in December 2020

See? Aren't the shoes a great match with this?
I echoed the touches of red in the top with my red snakeskin belt, emphasizing the paper-bag waist of this amazing skirt.
The skirt has a sheer silk lining, and the over-skirt section is also silk (but has a sheen like leather). It also has pockets, making it quite possibly the Best Full Black Skirt Ever.
I did some big clip-curls in my hair this morning while I did my make-up, but by mid-day, they'd all fallen out.

Masked-up:
If you suspect that red leopard jacket is part of my ensemble, you are correct.

I wore this jacket from my suit as my outerwear. Despite sunny skies (and highs of 23+! woo!), I need to keep my arms out of the hot sun, both for skin cancer protection and to ensure my tattoos don't get blurry.
In the office, I fluctuated between jacket off (hot flash!) and jacket on (chilly AC!).

Outerwear stuff:
Just the mask.

  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
I wore these shoes around the house to feel how they were for minimal activity and they were so comfy I walked to and from work in them. Normally, I wouldn't do this to my "good" shoes - especially on a first wear. Happily, I had zero issues - a minor bit of a rub on my bony ankle on the left, but it softened up over the day. Winners!

Metal bling:
That little ring is the first jewelry L ever gave me, for my birthday the year we met (1995). Do any of you remember Past Times, the catalogue for museum repro goods? I know they used to be a store in the UK, but I remember them only from those thick catalogues. I used to love browsing through all their gorgeous stuff - I had an embroidered vest from there too (so 90s!). I also found this pillow (pic here) by them in a thrift store for $3.95 about 5 years ago.

  • Belt - Emmanuel, thrifted
  • Steel cuff - thrifted
  • Silver cuff - vintage, thrifted, Powell River
  • Amber ring - Past Times, gift from L, c. 1995
  • Klimt ring - consignment
  • Wood ring - Dots
  • Silver/amber earrings - vintage 1930s, gift from L, vintage mall

And with that, I'm off for the weekend - it's supposed to stay sunny and hot, so I'm looking forward to getting out to enjoy some of it.

Wherever you are, stay safe, my friends. Wishing you a lovely weekend, and thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. Oh I loved Past Times, the one at Heathrow always resulted in some new treasure as I was flying back home to Oz! Sad they're defunct now. Love the mustard shoes and what a perfect outfit.

  2. Great outfits and color pairing. The linen trousers with that shade of blue is so fresh and uplifting. I also love the lipstick and those mustard shoes are darling with that blouse and skirt. I am so glad you are fixing those wonderful orange earrings. Glad the visit to the periodontist is over.

    1. Thanks, Chalotalo! I've been dabbling in some brighter lipsticks and I like them. The orange earrings are fixed with no problems at all. Thank you!

  3. Good morning Sheila, wow blue and orange are such a great combo! The "softness" in design and clour of the top balances out the bright tousers. Fantastic. Glad you can fix your earring, I had a doctors appoint other day and my mask got caught in my favourite earrings so omade note to be more careful lol Hope you are fully over your dental visit. I knew thowse mustard shoes would work for you. Past times ahh as a new Aussie in the Uk I used to love their shops as hadn't seen amything quite like them back home. Love the "first" ring. My hubster bought me loads of earrings from there all I still have. Anyway back for another scroll. Have a great week end Shazxx

    1. Hello, Shaz! I'm glad you like the bright combo - thank you! The earrings are fixed - big earrings + masks can be dangerous, I agree. I'm all recovered now, thanks, but it's not a fun time.

I loved the mustard shoes. Another Past Times fan - I'm glad I kept the ring and I wish we'd bought more from them. Happy weekend to you!

  4. Orange is an often-overlooked color. It's vibrant and pretty, yet unknown in men's clothing. I first encountered it in female clothes and it's grown on me. It looks good on you, brightening up every outfit. Orange's growth in my life may translate into my choosing it as the color of my future super-car (McLaren Artura); it feels more special than ordinary red.

    1. I don't know why it's not a big colour for everyone! L has an orange shirt and several ties with orange in them (and of course, he has orange satin Versace trousers, AND plaid orange Etro ones!), so it's not completely unknown, Ally! Ooh, an orange McLarin would be cool!

  5. Both outfits say SPRING to me and look quite comfortable. There is something special about a nice pair of walking shoes that can also be worn with dresses. When footwear can be multipurpose it signals a win to me!

Yay for glue to revitalize the earrings. For those of us who wear earrings it is a must have! And I’ve been noticing and thinking lately how sweet to be able to swap eye glasses depending upon the outfit colors. I have one pair and quite like them, though if I bought purely to satisfy me and not family who look at me then I might have purchased a funky colorful pair!

Happy weekend to you complete with L, V and sun!

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie, they were! I love shoes that can work with skirts and dresses as well as pants, and still be walkable and comfy. That's the goal!

Yup, they are all fixed, no problem at all. I like swapping my glasses around - these two pairs I have are good colours for alternating, depending on my outfit.

I hope you and Fred had a good weekend, my dear!

  6. I love blue and orange together - the Nepalis often combine coral and turquoise in their jewellery. The trousers are fab and the colours wonderfully spring-like. I'm glad you've got that tricky appointment out of the way.
The paperbag waist on the skirt is fab and I knew those incredible shoes would fit seamlessly into your wardrobe.
We've got sunshine too - balm for the soul! Have a fab weekend. xxx

    1. Any shade of red/orange and blue/aqua looks amazing together - it's that whole complementary colour thing on the colour wheel. Thanks so much, Vix, and I'm relieved to have my teeth done for another month.

I love a good paperbag waist! Thanks - isn't the sun wonderful? I hope you and Jon and the lads had a fabulous weekend!

  7. I'm glad to hear our good wishes helped at the dentist, but oh boy, I'd need more than one happy pill to be in a dental chair for close to two hours ... Well done, you, even if you were discombobulated by the wrong timing! Your outfit definitely cheered me up, it is sooo good! Orange and blue are brilliant together, and what a stroke of luck that your belt matches your blouse exactly. I took a sharp breath when I saw the broken earring, so I'm glad to hear you'll be able to super-glue the halves together!
Friday's outfit is most swoon-worthy as well. The skirt is amazing, and I love all the subtle but effective matching going on. I do remember Past Times, it was one of our first ports of call whenever we were in the UK, and their catalogues were well-thumbed at Dove Cottage too!
I hope you're having a wonderful weekend. It's been a sunny day today, although still a bit chilly. And Jos has had his first dose of Pfizer vaccine today! xxx

    1. Thanks, Ann, the good vibes definitely helped. :) One happy pill is plenty (although they always offer two). It felt good to be armoured up in my bright clothes for the duration. I have fixed the earring already so no worries there.

Thank you! I loved this outfit with the touches of red in it. Past Times had the coolest stuff.

Same here - it's been really hot and sunny, and is just lovely. Yay for Jos!

  8. Just getting caught up on your last few posts. I've been baby sitting my grandson while my daughter was on bed rest during the last few days of her pregnancy and now we have a second grandson born yesterday! All are healthy and well.

You've been a busy girl - peridontal appointments and some great shopping too. I am excited to see that spectacular leather coat on! Since you are having such great weather I have a feeling it might be awhile :( The style is so unique and the embellishments are beautiful. Also a big fan of the colour mustard, so of course I really like your new shoes. They look so comfy too.

I hope you have a good weekend. Hubby received his first vaccination shot yesterday and I am scheduled for this coming Wednesday (assuming they don't run out). We are under stay at home orders here in Ontario and they have just tightened up even these restrictions so our lives are getting very small again (not that we've been living large the last year, lol).

    Keep well and safe.

    1. Thanks so much for the big comment, Nana! Hooray for seeing the grandson, and congratulations on the new addition to your family! Yay!

I have been busy, yes! I'm also excited to wear the leather jacket, but I now have to wait for the weather to go back to normal spring temps! Wait till you see it on!

I love yellows and mustard too. I'm happy that the shoes are comfy.

Thank you, my dear. That's awesome news! We are still waiting for our appointments, but hopefully it will be soon. I'm glad we're still permitted to meet up outdoors - even that little bit means a lot.

      Stay safe, Nana!

  9. Glad you didn't suffer and instead got some time to browse and relax before your appointment after getting the time wrong! There was one day I completely forgot my son's dentist appointment, until the dentist called! I felt bad as I'd got the reminder the day before, it just slipped my mind! Definitely the worst way to mess up at the dentist!

I like your orange and blue outfit, I really need to try wear that colour combo more!

    1. Mica, it was actually really nice to have that extra time, and I got some good ideas for my next Book Club pick too. Oh no, that's embarrassing to have forgotten entirely, ha ha - at least I showed up! ;-P

      Thank you! Go for it!

  10. Thats a half day trip to the dentist! Pfff, and two hours in the chair! No wonder you needed to shop before. Those orange trousers are fabulous and I love the scarf in your hair. Also love the skirt outfit. I like a bit of matchy matchy. Enjoy your Sunday! I hope you get to enjoy the sun!

  13. woww, both outfits are so lovely!. Love your orange trousers (great idea to roll their cuffs for a casual&cool look), love the colour combo and the matchiness, love your shoes!. And so wise to dress up comfortably for your medical appointment, but keeping things bright and cheerful!. Hope you've recovered quickly!
And totally in love with these mustard shoes, they look even better 'in action'!. This is an amazing outfit, love the shiny texture of the skirt, love the matchy blouse and the belt, and love that you added a leopard jacket!, Brilliant!!!

  16. Fabulous ensembles! Love marriage of blue and orange together. Orange is Tony's fave colour and for nearly all of our time together now (17 years and counting as of last month), I've had a tradition of wearing orange (or coral, which he also adores) on his b-day. I've most commonly paired it with either grey, blue, or navy, as going the orange + black route inevitable causes people to ask me why I'm dressed for Halloween in early August. 😄 (Not that I really mind that question. It's Halloween 365 in my heart and head!)
