A Chance of Flowers

I read in bed for two hours this morning - it felt so decadent. I had a coffee, snuggly blankets and a warm cat on me. I almost didn't want to shower and get dressed.
But I did. I have to look sharp for my Zoom call with Mom!

  • Sweater - Banana Republic, consignment; last seen here in February for a Mental Health Shop
  • Blouse - Talbots, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in February with jungle print and joggers
  • Skirt - Loft, thrifted; first seen here (2nd outfit) in January with orange, grey and red
  • Shoes - Bebe , Fluevog; last worn here (2nd outfit) to Vero's birthday party in September 2020

Getting in a spring wearing of this grey embroidered skirt. It's long enough to be fine with bare legs, or like here, with nylons.
I'd snuck in a wearing of it in January just after I bought it, but I knew it would work better in my spring wardrobe. It's a thick wool so it's also not too chilly for these cloudy spring days.

Cloudy with a chance of showers is our usual forecast - I foresee a chance of flowers! Ha!
I layered a paler pink elbow-length viscose blouse under a deeper rasberry-pink wool-blend sweater.
Comfy, warm, and not too bulky.

The stuff:
I completely love these shoes - I'm now on my 25th wearing of them, as you can see from their Flashback (above link).

While doing my stair picture, I was enamoured of how shiny the metallic was when the sun briefly appeared. That sun felt so good - I get it, Vizzini!
So shiny! These are incredibly comfy.

Green bling:
I wore both Mom's sparkly bracelet and her brass/jade ring, both "liberated" from her jewelry box back in the mid-80s. "I see that," said Mom, when I waggled my hands at her.

  • Glass bangle - thrifted
  • Crystal bracelet - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Brooch - thrifted
  • Aventurine/silver ring - consignment
  • Brass/jade ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Earrings - Stella & Dot, consignment, Vancouver

Mom and I had a lovely chat - she surprised me by framing my Zentangle drawing (I gave it to her on Sunday).
Aw, that's lovely, thank you for doing that, Mom.

Vizzini made his usual brief appearance, but he's been chasing the sunbeams out on the deck all day.
"Let me down, Woman! I need sun on my tum!"

How's your week going? Any chance of showers?

  4. Ditto Nana’s comment, especially the sweater and matching shoes! Perfect Spring outfit.

As for weather, we are still having sunshine and warm temps, with rain (much needed) forecast to begin on the weekend. The ground and plants are clamoring for the water!

What are you currently reading? We stopped by our Library yesterday and I browsed the newly catalogued books, both fiction and non-fiction. Nice to have the Library reopen (they were doing curbside pickup as we can reserve books online).

Lastly, yea for mornings such as yours!

    1. I do like my matchy, as you well know, Laurie! Thank you!

It's cloudy and raining today, blerg. Typical spring, really.

I'm reading the Southern Reach trilogy of books by Jeff VanderMeer. "Annihilation" (was made into a pretty solid movie), "Authority" (just finished), and "Acceptance" (just started). They are very tense science/horror novels. I loved the first two. I have so many books, and so little time - I never run out! I'm so glad you can get to the library!

It was SO nice. I haven't done that in ages. :)

  5. I like that top with the skirt, it's so spring like and goes so nicely with the embroidery :) I am incredibly jealous of your leisurely morning - I would love that! I did dare to turn off my alarm for one day in the Easter long weekend but of course the kids were up an awake even before my alarm was due to go off! I usually get some reading in just before bed instead.

    1. I was really pleased with it, Mica, thank you! I know, it felt so...wrong! I haven't done that in years. Oh, those kids! One of these days you'll get to sleep in! I also read before bed, which is how I do most of my reading.

  6. That sounds like a wonderfully decadent start to the morning. I'm glad to hear that you dress up for your mum, my mum would ahve thought I was ill if I'd chatted to her without being dressed, bejewelled and with lipstick on.
The zentangle looks fabulous framed and Vizzini looks keen to escape back into his suntrap.
Showers of the snowy variety here! xxx

    1. It was so wonderful, Vix! I'm glad I dressed up for Mom - and for me! It made me feel more positive.

Vizzini really wasn't keen on having his picture taken, but I do it anyway, ha ha! Yikes, snow!

  7. I finally bought my first pair of block heels. They're not the chicest pair of shoes I own, but oh, so comfortable! Even with 2" heels. I wore them yesterday, and would up being on my feet all day, without having to take them off once, and when I got home, they were still comfortable. The pair I bought were closed-toe pumps, like yours, but I plan later this week to buy a pair of peep-toes, for the summer.

  9. It is good to be decadent sometimes, isn't it? I love reading in bed.
You look fabulous in this feminine and chic styling. The sweater and the blouse are perfect together. The embroidered skirt is very pretty and matches those shoes quite well. I do love a block heel. That pair is very pretty and it is great it is comfortable as well.

  11. I've had the urge to stay in bed reading a couple of mornings, what with the weather reverting back to Winter. Much easier to jump out of bed - although do not take the jumping part too literally - when the sun is shining! Oh well, we'll provide our own wearing our colourful clothes, won't we? I absolutely love this outfit, Sheila! That skirt is gorgeous and I am so glad you are nylons, like I do, in the in-between stage, bridging opaques and bare legs. I often feel as if I'm the only one who wears them!
I love the pale pink pussy bow of your blouse peeking out from your raspberry jumper, and how perfect are those shoes with your outfit! Your green bling is incredible too.
It's as if you're wearing the colours of your Zentangle! xxx

    1. Yes, what's up with all that winter weather, Ann? We should definitely be staying in bed! No jumping here either (I literally roll out of bed so that I don't hurt myself!). Too true - we are dealing with clouds and rain today, so I'm in my own sunshine!

Whenever you see me in bare legs, it's usually nylons. I love them! My bare legs are covered in bruises, spider veins and varicose veins, not to mention scars. You are not alone!

Thank you, me too - I can't resist a pussy-bow. Oh, good call! I didn't even realized I matched my own Zentangle!

  14. I love your skirt - and paired with the raspberry pink it's gorgeous. I've been trying to figure out the difference between consignment and thrifted ... I think it's our second hand/nearly new shops vs charity ... both class - I cannot wait to get out visiting either or both again soon.

    1. Hi, Fil, thank you so much! If you check out my Tab up there ^^^^ (my Favourite Second-Hand Stores), I spell out the difference between thrift and consignment, but yes, thrifts are charity-based (clothing is donated, profits go to charity) and consignment is where the store gets some $ and the previous owner gets some $ - they tend to be nearly new (as you say), or even brand new/never worn!

I love my shopping trips, and I'm so glad those stores have remained open.

  15. The weather has been SO bizarre here! Tuesday a week ago was boiling hot sun, we then had lovely weather on Sunday so I was able to dip my feet in a river (albeit the water was cold) but then on Monday, we had hail- it was So cold! I don't understand it!
I'm loving your spring ensemble- the pinks really pick out the detailing of that fab new skirt so well and the shoes look comfy as well as glam with their metallic glory! Love your Zentangle framed!
Ah, I understand Vizzini's love of the warmth!

  17. "Cloudy with a chance of flowers" is such a darling take on a classic expression. It makes me think (and I say this as a wholly positive thing) as someone one might see written as part of a Mary Engelbreit illustration.
