Pink, Bows and Polka Dots

This has turned into an unexpectedly stressful week: work stuff for L, sickness, renovations not going the way they are supposed to!
In these kinds of stressful situations, I always cope better if I feel good about what I'm wearing.

  • Top - H&M, thrifted; last worn here in September 2018 with red polka dots
  • Skirt - J Studio, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in July 2018 with leopard
  • Shoes - Lola Ramona; last worn here in June with yellow and daisies
  • Jacket (below) - Stella McCartney for Adidas, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here with these shoes in June

There are many things in this world we can't control, but I can control my style! I felt fab all day.
Due to my renewed interest in trousers over the last year, they are taking up more space in my closet, and I've had to fold/stack some of my light tops, like this lovely printed cotton one. It was on the bottom and I totally couldn't see it - I'd forgotten all about it (obviously, I need a bigger closet).

I fell in love with it anew - such a great pattern! The ribbon belt is removable but I've always worn it like this.
Bows on the heels too!
This vintage skirt is summer-weight wool, fully-lined, and beautifully made in Vancouver.

And it has pockets! It's really vivid, almost a neon pink. Well, it IS from the 80s, duh, of course, it's neon.
Don't you love this just-below-the-knee length? My knees are covered in (battle)scars from various accidents, mishaps, falls and bangs over the years.

It was cloudy and very windy today, but it's warm out.
This light nylon jacket was perfect for walking to and from work.

The stuff:
Doing a little black and white colour-mixing for visual interest - polka dots are always a win. These shoes are wonderful to wear, very comfortable. Eee, the bows on the heels! The striped rubber soles!

Black and white bling:
Some favourite pieces.

  • Cuff - vintage fair
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Earrings - thrifted

  2. Sorry 'bout the setbacks. I'm experiencing them, too. But you're right -- we can control our style, so when life contains good and bad, let's emphasize the good.

BTW I'm heading up to Canada today! One of the trip's plans is to get makeup professionally applied and then dine in public in female clothing. Honestly I'm as anxious as I am excited about this idea but I won't let anxiety stop me from trying it. I hope your countrymen/women are compassionate and not intolerant. Fingers crossed.

Wow, how exciting is that?? I hope my fellow citizens are gracious and kind...not all of them are, but I think you will be awesome. :)

  6. I can really relate to how you're feeling, as my week isn't exactly stress-less either. And I totally agree tht it helps if you're wearing things you're feeling great in. I love the sizzling neon pink skirt, and that top looks absolutely amazing with it. Very va-va-voom! And your black and white pattern mixing is fabulous. Hope things go back to normal soon, Sheila, so that you can relax again. Sending you hugs from Belgium xxx

  7. Best wishes for much better health and luck throughout the weeks months and years ahead!
I love the deep pink colour of that vintage 80's J Studio skirt! I purchased some full briefs in a very similar colour that I've been meaning to review on my blog but haven't taken photos wearing them yet.
I also love the look of the light nylon daisy print jacket you styled with the skirt - it's very pretty!

    1. Thank you, hon, I appreciate that!

It's such a great rich colour - it would be very pretty in panties. I love a pretty print - this daisy one is lovely.

  8. Sheila, I love this outfit, classic, but fun. I love the length of this pencil skirt, it just hits in the perfect place. I always try to find them this length, but unfortunately over the last few years 'shorter' above the knee seems to rule the fashion world. I have found a few longer length ones and have kept some old old ones I've had for a long time. The polka dot shoes are awesome!

    1. Thanks, Dar, and I totally agree on the length of the skirt - it's so nice on. I like short skirts too, but longer are better on me when I'm not feeling 100%. Agreed on the shoes - I miss She She Shoes!
