Tasty Ruffles and Pearls

I had a slightly different outfit planned this morning, and ended up changing nearly everything.
This skirt was the only thing that remained.

  • Sweater - Bleu Gray, thrifted; purchased here for $5.95
  • Skirt - Sandra Angelozzi, thrifted; last seen here in May 2018 in a fabulous flapper look
  • Shoes - Sam Edelman, thrifted; last worn here in May in a very metal outfit
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last seen here in June

First wearing of this thin black sweater - my older one is starting to show some wear, and this is a wardrobe staple for me. Black sweaters are very useful with "bossy" bottoms.
The blouse I'd originally planned (this one) was uninspiring and didn't work with the shape of the skirt. It was already on probation, but now it's in the giveaway pile.

I'd chosen spotted heels (these ones, which haven't been worn in ages!), but didn't like the look of the outfit once I changed the top. Also, my feet did not want heels today.
Flats to the rescue. I still retained the dot theme in the studs on the toes.

But the skirt was the real star of the outfit. It's silk organza and I bought it two years ago for $17.95. This is my fourth outfit with it - it always inspires good ones!
It wrinkles like mad in the back from sitting, but it's so FLOOFY! All is forgiven!

Outerwear - this is more for sunblock, although the temperatures stubbornly refuse to be above 21 degrees.
"Well, hello, delicious skirt, don't you look tasty?"

Vizzini was very enamoured of this skirt while I was getting ready this morning. He totally barged into these pictures.
"Oh, yes, so tasty, must lick."

He's a strange cat.

The stuff:
Comfy shoes - I love the wee metal studs all over the toes.

Pearl bling:
I considered long flapper-y pearls, but reined in my costumey desires and went with Grandma J's faux pearl necklace instead.

  • Necklace - vintage 60s, Grandma J
  • Bracelet - thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Ring - Erth, consignment

  1. Super cute! I bet skirt has swoosh factor! I have two of those black sweaters they get heavy rotation in my wardrobe. I'm actually enjoying our temperatures, I'm not a fan of sweltering temps and it keeps the wild fires at bay. Love the outfit!

    1. Actually, Dar, it has zero swoosh - the chiffon is cut on the bias and doubled over, so it makes it pretty rigid. It only looks swooshy! Black sweaters are so handy, aren't they? I know, me too - I'm quite happy not to be sweating in all of my clothes! Thanks, hon!

  3. Such a cute skirt - I'm glad you persisted with wearing it even if you changed everything else from what you had planned! :)

    1. Me too - it's not worn a ton, but it's still a keeper in my closet, due to being so unusual. You just don't see skirts like that around much.

  4. I love the dotty theme - coat, peals and shoes - how clever! A very nice outfit.

  6. Love the frilly and floofy skirt, which looks perfect combined with black. And I'm not just talking about your top and shoes. Yes, I do mean Vizzini! No wonder he's so attracted to it ;-) But, aren't ALL cats strange? xxx

    1. Thanks, Ann! Vizzini is always the perfect accessory, and yes, ALL cats are strange...but Vizzini is a little stranger than most, I think!

  7. I love the floofy skirt; it's an unusual colour. I couldn't tell if it was pink, or peach or even gold; but whatever colour it is the black sweater looks great with it. An absolute wardrobe staple although I tend to go for a black or white blouse or long sleeved tee as staples.

    The accessories were lovely.

Did you let Vizzini lick the skirt? I bet you did!

    1. It's a blush colour - nearly the colour of my skin, actually! It tends to skew orange (I've worn orange with it in the past). Thanks, Vronni!

No, I did not let his little raspy tongue get at it! He's ruined other garments in my closet by licking them, the wee monster!

  8. I like that - "bossy" bottoms! That is certainly a skirt that demands attention. X

    1. "Bossy" pieces tend to be the centre of attention in an outfit, and I like to let them shine a bit with more neutral pieces. Thanks, Jess!

  9. I am a big fan of the swooshy, voluminous skirt, and you look very chic with the little black sweater and pearls. I like your reference to statement pieces as "bossy".

    1. I wish the skirt were swooshy - it's actually quite a slim fit. I can't take credit for "bossy" - one of L's coworkers came up with it.

  10. Sometimes this happens, but I think your end result was quite lovely. Very girly with the pearls and the fluffy skirt, i think you look very chic She.

    1. It does! It's frustrating, but if I hadn't said anything, no one would have known! Thank you, dear Lorena!
