Nine Years of Spanish Ladies

One more day to go, my friends, and summer will officially be here!
Returning to an old friend today, this lovely piece that I dubbed the Spanish Ladies dress many years ago.

  • Dress - Lirub, made in England, Camden Market, 2010; last worn here (3rd outfit) in May 2018
  • Jacket - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage 90s, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in May
  • Shoes - Aldo, thrifted; last worn here (5th outfit) in April with lace and chartreuse

Although I usually only wear this dress once a year these days, I've had it since 2010!
I can't believe I've had it for nine years! I first bought it here in May 2010, in Camden Market.

I paid 95 pounds for it ($200 Canadian, about $150 US), and I've worn it 21 times. Excellent cost per wear!
It's made in England - there was a stall in the market with dresses in all kinds of crazy prints, like pickles and refrigerators. I couldn't even try it on, just hold it up and hope for the best. I am pretty good at gauging if something will fit, though.

I'm glad I went with the Spanish Ladies pattern. They look like movie stars. .
I always get "WOW" reactions to this dress, and today was no exception. I enjoy introducing my newer coworkers to my special pieces.

I wore the jacket walking to and from work, mostly for sun coverage. I wasn't sure if I'd need to wear it in my AC'd office, but I was fine without it.
I like showing off my ink anyway.

As I was doing the pose thing, Mr. Vizzini came walking in.
"Is it time for my cuddle?"

There is always time for a cuddle, bud.
"This is just between us, right?"

He loves to have my attention in the mornings while I'm getting ready. He's my happy place when things get stressy. Soft kitty, happy paws, deep purrs. Ah...

The stuff:
Classic red. Every colour goes with that dress, though.

Simple bling:
A few things that I love.

  • Bracelet - Butler Fifth Avenue Collection, consignment
  • Earrings - Vancouver, locally made
  • Fulvia Ring/lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

Wishing you all a happy weekend from me and the Vizz-meister.
"Happy paws for all."

I'll be back on Sunday with my Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up - thank you for stopping by!

    1. I know, it's a great piece of "Slow Fashion". Funny, at the time, I felt it was a little on the long side, but now it looks like a normal length to me. Thanks, Ann!

  3. Gosh I would love to go to Camden market! I would love to go back in time for a day in the early 80s when Vivienne Westwood and Malcom McClaren had their store. Ha ha, happy weekend Sheila!

    1. Oh, back in the day - wouldn't that be amazing, Nancy? And Carnaby Street too! I'd love to be able to get some of those early Westwood clothes! I love her stuff.

  4. The pattern on the dress is brilliant, no wonder it's stayed in your closet this long. The cut is super flattering on you as well.

    1. It's so cute - yes, the cut is key to a "keeper dress". Thanks, Shelley!

  6. What a fab dress, those glamorous ladies remind me of the old Corona adverts of which I've got a clock and tray. The fit is fabulous.
I love that it came from Camden, although I'm not sure if you'd enjoy it as much now, it's gone very touristy of late, Spitalfields is where it's at!
Hello to the Vizz-meister, our lads are very out of sorts after they saw us packing the van! xxx

    1. Thanks, Vix! It was pretty touristy when we were there too - I looked hard to find something that wasn't mass-produced.

Aw, poor lads! I hope they recover quickly (of course they will, they're cats!).

  7. Fabulous!

It reminds me of a song we used sing at school (I was in the choir - for a while)

"Farewell and adieu to you, Spanish Ladies
Farewell and adieu to you Ladies of Spain"

I can't remember anymore but it's an old British sea shanty from the 1700s. Apparently one of the characters (Robert Shaw) sang a snatch of it in the movie 'Jaws'.

  10. The shape of this dress, the colours is amazing and your cost per wear will continue to go down because this dress has a lot of life left in it!
I am slowly, but surely coming back :) Sorry for the absence, I've been missing reading you.
