Green and Gold Waiting in the Wings

Hello, my friends! Sorry I missed you yesterday, but a nasty bout of food poisoning struck me late Sunday night (it was either the pizza or the soup), and I was a wreck yesterday. I called in sick to work, and slunk back to bed where I slept all day. I'm feeling better now, but a little weak and shaky.

This is not the outfit I had planned for yesterday (that one will show up on Thursday), but it was what I was going to wear to the Vintage Fair on Friday.
I only had to put the accessories together and I was ready to go. I just didn't feel like doing anything too difficult. It's always nice to have a fully-put-together outfit waiting in the wings for days like this.

  • Velvet jacket - Pink Tartan, consignment; first worn here in January with ruffles, plaid and sparkles
  • Blouse - H&M, thrifted; last seen here in February with Etro and plaid
  • Skirt (part of a suit) - Precis Petite; last worn here in October 2018 in an all-green look
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last seen here in January in a Wonder Woman outfit

I was overheated by the time I got to work - walking is hard when you haven't eaten more than a cup of broth in 36 hours.
I wore just the blouse for a few hours, until my body temps returned to normal. I love the rich turmeric colour of this one, but bemoan its shoddy material (snaggerific!) and construction.

The skirt is a very old piece in my wardrobe, bought pre-blog, now close to 12 years ago.
I also own the jacket (last worn here with the skirt, but without its detachable faux fur collar), and used to own matching trousers, but they were too short so they left my closet nearly a decade ago.

With the jacket on. I wore it loose like this all day.
I loved how the rich grass green of the velvet went with the marled silk and wool tweed of the skirt.

The skirt is a little longer than most of my pencil skirts, but I like a) how it makes my bum look and b)  those little kick-pleats in the back. So sweet.
I do need to wear a heel with it, though, or my proportions get all out of whack. I am only 5'4"!

Bundled up - yes! I have NO COAT on! It was sunny and bright this morning, and we had double digit temps today! 10-12 degrees! It feels amazing.
Of course, by the time I walked home, I was pelted by hail and rain, and looked like a drowned rat. Sigh. Victoria in the spring!

  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
Shiny shoes! While these are very comfy for a day at work, I was not up to wearing them all day + Vintage Fair + walking to dinner on Friday.

Gold bling:
I now wish I'd worn my new gold fan earrings, but it's not like they will languish unworn, ha ha!

  • Belt - thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Ring - c. 1996

  2. Love this! The colours are rich and springy. I particularly like the little kick pleats in the skirt, just gives it that little flirtiness. I actually love the velvet blazer with it because it gives a different texture and tone to it. Sorry to hear you were under the weather again,

    Hi Ally!

Dicky tummy aside (I hope you're feeling well again!)
The High street shops have attempted this combination here in Scotland but you just can't beat a bit of vintage can you?!

    1. Thank you, Samantha! All better over here. Nope, I'd rather find my goodies second-hand, although I did buy the skirt new around 2012.

  6. Lovely outfit! The skirt is so classy and I love the jacket and the shiny shoes. Shame about the poor quality of the blouse; I bet you won't still have that in 12 years time!

  7. As your posts are usually regular as clockwork, I was wondering what had happened. How absolutely horrible you got food poisoning. Such things can be quite draining, I know. But I'm loving your alternative green outfit: that skirt is absolutely divine. Those little kick pleats! I'm hearing you on the shoes, though, they would have killed you if you'd worn them for the vintage fair. The nice weather has left us, but at least I know it has gone to your part of the world! xxx

  13. I'm so sorry to hear you had food poisoning! Hope you feel 100% soon. I've had it a few times (I seem to be very sensitive to food that is the slightest bit "off) and it is horrible. You look wonderful though.
