Dragon Scales and All the Necklaces

It's only one day - tomorrow - but yippee! I am on vacation! Of course, I realized when I got home, that I'd totally forgotten to set my out-of-office auto-reply. Ah well. Let it go.
What I do give a fork about is feeling happy and enjoying life. Today, I found delight in this lovely skirt.

  • Cardigan - Sparkle & Fade, swap from Sarah; last worn here in September over a dress, over pants
  • Sweater - Judith & Charles, consignment; last seen here in September with double flares
  • Skirt - Strawberry Jill, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in February for a casual brunch
  • Boots - Clarks; last seen here in October with pheasants
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here last week

This outfit got a lot of love today, both at my regular work and my WW meeting. The skirt is pretty spectacular, and very much a statement piece.
All those circles of silk, every one of them individually serged, and then sewn together - so much work! They remind me of dragon scales. Rar, I am tough!

I like the loose, louche vibe of the long sweater over this. Perfect for my Friday.
I'm covered up head to toe. I felt secure.

Also, pockets.
Where else am I going to jam my hands?

Outerwear - there was frost on the rooftops this morning!
But it's still pretty mild during the day.

  • Scarf - gift from Mom
  • Leather gloves - thrifted

The stuff:
Comfy boots for a day on my feet. I love the rich caramel colour.

All the bling:
I test-drove my outfit last night to make sure all the proportions were okay. I knew I needed a necklace - that sweater is a lot of cream acreage. I tried the gold filigree one first, then added the long loop/bead one. And of course, you need an odd number, so the square-cut vintage necklace nestled right in there perfectly. All the necklaces!

  • Loop/bead necklace - Plum
  • Gold necklace - Trifari, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Amber crystal necklace - vintage 20s? 30s?, gift from L
  • Faux tortoiseshell bracelet - J. Crew, thriftd
  • Gold chain - vintage 80s, Grandma J's
  • Spinner ring - Twang & Pearl
  • Floral ring - Sarah Coventry, vintage 70s, antique store, Powell River

When I took my stair picture this morning, I spotted this little ladybug right where I put my camera.
We shared a moment.

It is a long weekend for us in Canada for November 11th Remembrance Day. I will be back on Monday with tales of adventure! Wishing you all a weekend of peace, and thank you for stopping by.

  1. That skirt and cardigan look great together and I really like your layered necklaces! :) I'd love to get back into wearing layered necklaces more, but I'm kinda clinging to the last few wearings of my scarves before summer, haha!

    Enjoy your long weekend! :)

  3. This skirt is stunning. I really like the entire outfit and also the caramel color of the boots. I would not usually consider layering so many statement necklaces together but they really look good so maybe I will give it a try some time too. This outfit has a 70's vibe - so cool. Lise

  5. It's a long weekend here in the US too, but oddly, I have to work two out of the three days. Blech. I am happy for you though!

  7. What a yummy outfit, Sheila! I'm falling in love with your dragon skirt every time you wear it, but this combination is just perfect. Love how you've added the three different necklaces, that's just genius. Love the long cardigan as well, been looking for something similar. Enjoy your long weekend, you lucky girl! xxx

  8. This perfectly matched outfit complements your stance and coloring most splendidly! I love the colors and the individual pieces. Would like to try a long cardigan but I often feel overwhelmed by one on my frame. Maybe just need to find the right color and material? The other day you shared an outfit that included a blazer; I went gaga over the entire ensemble - looked smashing on you and I appreciated all the pieces. Dittoing Ellen above, “Damn, you have style!” Have a grand long weekend!

  10. Ooohh, what beautiful shades. Nice outfit. Oh, Darlene tells me she bumped into you at a vintage fair. How wonderful! I wish I lived closer to you two so I could bump into you guys. It takes crossing a continent and water for that to happen. :-)

  12. Hope you had a nice long weekend! I am not a big fan of earth tones like rusts, browns, creams, etc. but I really like this outfit. The skirt is such a cool piece, and the long sweater and those rich-looking boots make the perfect match. The multiple necklaces are also a brilliant touch. 10 out of 10!
