Big Blue Blazer

What in the blue blazes? It's a blue blazer!
I had to wear this funky blazer right away - it's too fun to languish in my closet.

  • Blazer - KL by Karl Lagerfeld, vintage late 80s, consignment; purchased here for $45.00
  • Sleeveless sweater - Gap, thrifted; last seen here in January with plaid and mustard
  • Skirt - BCBG Max Azria, consignment; last worn here in January with these same shoes
  • Shoes - Gentle Souls; last seen here with this same skirt in January
  • Sleeveless coat (below) - Only, thrifted; last worn here on the weekend

Vix of Vintage Vixen helpfully pointed out when I first posted about this KL by Karl Lagerfeld blazer that, since it's made in West Germany, it has to be older than I thought, since West Germany officially ended in late 1990. This is likely a late 80s blazer.
I was partly fooled by the lack of ginormous shoulder-pads, since that era is right around when they were really excessive (our camis had them, then our blouses, and our blazers, and our jackets - no wonder we looked like linebackers!).

I'd forgotten that quality designers didn't do quite the damage that those mall knock-off brands did!
The jacket is a beautiful piece, and was a treasure to wear.

I love how it's cut - it's just so different. I can see this with a tux-style pair of trousers, or a long flowy skirt. How would you wear it?
The pockets aren't very deep - I wouldn't keep anything more than a bus ticket in them.

Outerwear - it's becoming a regular thing, where I get all bundled up like this in the morning, then carry it all home after work because it's too warm to have a scarf and gloves on.
That's promising! It means warmer weather soon!

  • Pashmina - Portolano, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - consignment

The stuff:
I played it safe and did the same shoes as last time I wore the skirt.

Vintage bling:
The colour of the blazer is tricky - it veers into turquoise territory (best seen in the stair pic), but I opted for baby blue accessories.

  • Earrings - Sherman, vintage 60s, vintage fair (I have the matching 2-strand necklace)
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Silver bracelet - Coro, vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Thermoset bracelet - Coro, vintage 60s, vintage fair

  3. That blazer looks even better on! I love the colour of it with the black and white skirt. It's a lovely piece, another great find! :) I'd go the boring/safe route and wear it with jeans, but you know me, denim is my staple, haha!

    1. I know, right? It's such a cool piece. The skirt actually has blue, pink, white and black - I don't know that jeans would work as well with this blazer, but worth a shot.

  4. That jacket looks every inch the designer piece it is and you're right, the high end 1980s stuff didn't usually have the gimmicky American footballer shoulders, it was all in the exquisite cut.
The splashes of pink are just lovely! xxx

  9. What an amazing piece that blazer is, and it looks even better with you modelling it. Tricky or not, I love the colour too. The baby blue bling and pink gloves and scarf are a great combo! I've been wearing a cardigan and jacket in the morning and then come home in my short-sleeved dress! It's really tricky to get it right. xxx

  10. I think your idea of a black flowy skirt - black cigarette style pants would be fabulous. Love the jacket - it matches your glasses!
