Unseasonably Warm in Plaid

It's pretty chilly in the mornings (no frost yet, though!), but by late morning it's back to being really hot out. Walking home in this outfit, I was sweating like crazy glowing like a lady.
The tights may have been just a bit much. Good thing I didn't wear a layer under my sweater!

  • Sweater - Banana Republic, thrifted; purchased here on the weekend for $15.50
  • Skirt - Tommy Hilfiger, thrifted; purchased here at the end of August for $16.50
  • Shoes - Gentle Souls; first worn here in August with fruital and strapless

One of my coworkers stopped at my desk this morning, looked at me, then backed up to look at my bottom half behind my desk. "Oh, thank goodness," he said, "you look so classic. I knew you'd have something good going on at the bottom."

This is my stab at being trendy. Chunky sweater! Check! Um...is plaid trendy? Check! Coloured and textured tights? Uh, maybe half a check, since coloured tights seem to have been sucked into a black hole (gah, black tights are so DULL). Ankle strap shoes? Check? I have no idea if they're in style.
This is the first wearing of both the sweater and the skirt - I can't resist pairing up new-to-me items. Both were good, although since the skirt is a size big on me, it sits quite low on my hips, which led to many checks of my midsection to make sure nothing was hanging out.

The stuff:
Love these shoes! Such a pretty soft grey. I considered putting these away for summer, but decided that even with such a light grey, they would be fun with tights. I was right!

Circular bling:
I might do a big chunky necklace with this sweater at some point, but for today, it was all simple stuff.

  • Earrings - Glee, local
  • Shield ring - Nine West
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

I should go check the weather forecast for tomorrow!

  1. I love your plaid skirt. You look terrific. Very sleek and autumny. I remember the first day of school, wanting to wear my latest wool Bobby Brooks outfit with matching knee sox and it would be soooooo hot in the school. Then in the spring we're all jazzed to wear a cotton dress and sandals and our lips turn purple from the cold. I think there needs to be a slight shift in the seasons to accommodate our fashion needs.

  2. Yeah, who stole all the colourful tights from the stores? There's almost a whole half floor of black tights in the Bay. Love this outfit, especially the B&W plaid (oops, BL&W). Great minds and all that...heh.

  3. Such a great combination, even if it was a bit warm at the end of the day. We had some really cold (unseasonably cold!) spring mornings lately and it made dressing tricky as you didn't need a lot of clothes in the middle of the day when the temperatures were more normal.

And yes, I will be doing 31 different dresses for the Frocktober challenge, haha. I have a few too many dresses in my wardrobe!

  4. Plaid skirt and sweater are fab - I noticed that sweater is one of the new items, I particularly like the gold exposed zipper in the back.

  5. Thanks for once again inspiring me to dig into my closet and COPY YOU! Just yesterday I bought (thrifted) a chunky white sweater to wear sans turtle neck or oxford shirt. And I have a RED plaid short, straight skirt in my closet, some colorful tights and shiny reddish 1" heels to go with it. Yes, I'm a copycat! And btw, Connie's comment about the Bobby Brooks in the fall and cotton dress in the spring is SO what I was all about when I was in high school back in the early 60's. Fashion ALWAYS ruled over sensibleness in those days!
