I've seen celebrities doing the loose tie instead of going full bow, so thought I'd give that a shot. I fully tried on this blouse and "workshopped" it with different things in my closet until I found a combo that worked.
- Vest - True Religion, consignment; last worn here in January for a Mom-Day Adventure at Ross Bay Cemetery
- Blouse - Evan Picone, thrifted; purchased here for $12.95
- Trousers - Zara, thrifted; last seen here in October 2022 with emojis
- Shoes - Asos, consignment; last worn here in March for work and a concert
I paired it with more volume in these supreme Boss Lady Pants. They work with this because they're slim at the top, giving an hourglass shape.
The long black vest is cut from a men's jacket and embellished with tubes of steel on the lapel, neck and pockets. It has 5 pockets! I'm agog!
The vest just slimmed it all down nicely. I like long pieces like this - jackets, cardigans as well.

Because the blouse is a couple of sizes too big on me and possibly missing its original shoulder pads, I tried a do-it-myself to pull the shoulder seam up to my shoulder instead of halfway to my elbow.
Safety-pins to the rescue! Looks pretty good, doesn't it?

I just accordioned a few gathers and pinned it so that the shoulder had a squared-off shape.
A good trick, must remember that! I did take my safety pins back before I tossed this into the giveaway bag. Precious...

Ruth (who gave me this belt) is the person who first encouraged me to start a blog - 15 years ago! Enjoy my very first fashion post, from March 2008 here. I was but a child of 40 then!
"I love big blouses and I cannot lie!" Hilarious! I love the way you put outfits together.
ReplyDeleteI too giggled at "I love big blouses and I cannot lie" :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd I actually loved this outfit, even though I am definitely hearing you on the blouse's volume. Great safety pin trick, which I must try and remember!
Reminds me of a blouse of mine which I loved but whose collar annoyed me as it refused to lie flat. Turned out that its previous owner had safety pinned it that way :-)) xxx
I love voluminous clothing too even if they aren't the most flattering things to wear. I love how you've loosely tied the pussy bow.
ReplyDeleteIts mad to think we started our blogs in our early 40s, we were children! xxx
Your big blouse comment reminded me of our British expression "big girl's blouse" meaning "weakling." Not very pc, but very typical of 1950s northern England. :-D
ReplyDeleteAnyway, it's a beauty and I love the way you've toughened up quite a floaty, feminine blouse with your black and silver studded accessories.
I know that expression very well - I have a Mancunian friend. :)
DeleteI really like how you styled the blouse, so it's a shame you aren't keeping it! But if even with the pinned shoulders it still feels too big and not very you, then it is better to let it go.
ReplyDeleteVery clever, your pin trick, the blouse looks good. The whole outfit does.
