Dress Week: Linen Fireworks Dress

I happily pulled this amazing linen dress out of my closet last night.
Dresses are so easy - I just picked a pair of shoes out of many that I have that would match.

  • Linen dress - JG Hook, vintage 90s, thrifted; last seen (and Flashbacked) here in July 2022 moaning about the cold weather
  • Shoes - Half Truth Tanya, Fluevog; last worn here in February with emerald, leopard and leather

I have a pink cami underneath the top half.
The dress zips up the side and has two ginormous sewn-on ties.

I have a slate blue vintage half-slip on the bottom.
I'm still wearing nylons for comfort and keeping everything smooth.

I love the "fireworks" pattern (I know it's a floral - I prefer fireworks). You don't see a lot of patterned linen.
It's a very swooshy dress - very good quality.

Incognito.
Another hot day, and we're starting to get wildfire haze from the mainland - check out this map here (link 'cause I love) to see where the fires are - it's okay, I'm relatively safe on Vancouver Island.

The stuff:
This is the third time I've paired these awesome shoe with this dress. They're nearly 10 years old and are getting a bit worn, but I still love them. I've worn them 48 times, 10 since I Flashbacked on them here in 2020.

Green bling:
I liked the red fly scarf with the outfit.

  • Silk scarf - Smoking Lily, vintage 90s, thrifted
  • Necklace - vintage 1950s, Mom's
  • Silver/malachite bangle - Mexican, thrifted, Sidney
  • Light green stone bracelet - vintage 1930s, vintage mall
  • Silver/malachite ring - consignment
  • Silver/Kyanite ring - consignment
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Earrings - vintage 1920s, vintage mall

The necklace is glass and was a gift to Mom from her uncle Harry when she was a child.

  1. Yikes on the wildfires. I read an article this morning that suggested we are in for a hot year due to increasing temps. Not exactly new information but a bit disconcerting because of what increasing temps portend for the future. Ah well, onto something more uplifting!

Your dress! I’ve always liked this dress for all the flowyness (new word ;)), colors, style and the sleeve cutout detail. Am also a fan of your jewelry choices and shoes. Okay, I’m a fan of the entire outfit! Three cheers and more for Dress Week!

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Yeah, scary stuff - if it's like this in May, what's August or Sept going to be like? This how things are now? Yikes.

Thank you! I love this big swooshy dress. The sleeves can be work long (as I'm wearing them) or short - you just adjust the little cuff-links. I don't like them short (too tight, plus the cuffs flop), so I have a peekaboo sleeve in back. :D

  2. Sorry to hear about the wildfire haze, I do hope things cool down for you soon!
Ah yes, the fireworks dress! That's one of my absolute favourites of yours. Loving the green bling and shoes with it. And I'm usually wearing nylons for comfort unless it gets really, really hot. No chance of this happening here anytime soon! xxx

    1. Same, I really don't enjoy bare legs unless it's REALLY hot, Ann.

  3. I love that dress and the shoes and the whole outfit. I really prefer dresses as it is much easier, but I have a few wool suits for colder weather.

  4. This is such a great dress and the green shoes are perfect with it!

I thought it was still spring for you? So worrying if there are wildfires already, even though you are safe, the smoke haze can be so bad as well. It's the one benefit to the pandemic - everyone has masks to make breathing easier in the smoky air here. We have had a couple very wet years so they are forecasting a drier summer for us this year, I really hope it's not as bad as they say :(

    1. It is indeed still spring, Mica, but when we get all this hot weather, we get hit with flooding (from the snow-melt in the mountains) and wildfires. And if it's this hot this soon...bad things could happen.

    1. I'm not at risk where I am (my province is huge), but it's pretty scary to have all that smoke.

I did a quick google of "JG Hook dress" and saw the same one on Etsy - I am wearing a size 10. Good luck! I'd love it if we were dress twins, Kezzie!

  7. I checked the wildfire link you included. There are some pretty dangerous areas. Now that is something we haven't got in the Netherlands. It would scare me so much.
