Weekend Wrap-Up: Princess in the Pea; Psychedelic Brunch Photo-Bomber

Welcome back, my friends! This was a weekend for battery-recharging, as we're about to go into a flurry of social activity and shenanigans over the next few months (as I'm sure many of you are as well). It's taking me a while to get used to getting back to "normal" - I need to do lots of down-time in preparation, so I took advantage of this quiet weekend to do not much of anything.

Clothes always help me cope, so let's put some armour on! Here's Friday's funky outfit, featuring my pea-green dress.
Once I paired it with pink, I immediately thought of "The Princess and the Pea" by Hans Christian Anderson (a VERY quick read, here, link 'cause I love).

  • Jungle jacket - Adidas, consignment, Vancouver; first worn here in April with green lace
  • Dress - Trina Turk, consignment; purchased here for $45.00
  • Shoes - Seychelles, consignment; purchased here for $57.99

I'm not that delicate, but I do like this dress.
It's the perfect match for this Adidas jungle bomber jacket, and I wore it like this for most of the day.

See?
Such a good match.

With dresses like this, where you'd have to go braless or wear a strapless or some other such torture device, I say, eh, just layer a thin top under it.
In this case, a white t-shirt. I cannot be bothered with complicated bra shenanigans.

The dress is big ol' sack, but it's the cutest sack I've ever owned.
I like that back detail.

It looks like a pea pod when I put my hands in the pockets.
Interesting pleats.

Incognito.
I had a plethora of pockets!

The stuff:
First wearing of these shoes, and I loved them! They were cushy and soft, and that was not a high heel for me. I was worried the leather straps would be stiff, but I could feel them softening over the day. Hooray!

Pink and green bling:
This necklace was a perfect match too.

  • Necklace - thrifted
  • Earrings - Kate Spade, consignment
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Olivine/coral ring - Hawaii, c. 1977, Mom's

L and I don't see much of each other during the week (he works brutal hours and has to travel often), so we deliberately didn't plan anything outside of our usual Saturday brunch with Nick. After a late evening of board games, we strolled right into the Ruby and enjoyed our brunch.
These fabulous psychedelic jeans are right up my alley. I let them be the star.

  • Blouse - Nanette Lepore, thrifted; last seen here as part of L's Hallowe'en costume (Galileo!), and on me here in September 2022 under a jumpsuit
  • Jeans - Sun,Deh, consignment; purchased here for $25.00
  • Shoes - Chie Mihara; last worn here (2nd outfit) earlier this month with orange leopard

I have a small collection of plain white tops for letting "bossy" pieces take over.
Who doesn't love a rock star blouse?

I like the classic stove-pipe silhouette on the jeans.
It makes them less costume-y than a flare.

A good bum.
Also essential.

Incognito.
I didn't realize until I uploaded my photos on Sunday that I'd had a photo-bomber! L is looking dapper in his Kangol hat (in Dolphins colours), vintage Hawaiian shirt, orange khakis, and two-tone Fluevogs.

The stuff:
All favourites here. We walked over to Ditch Records and Dots after brunch, then grocery shopped.

  • Wicker bag - Street Level, thrifted

Boho bling:
The choker ties the whole outfit together. It was given to me by Mom - she bought it in the 70s. The sandalwood beads still faintly smell.

  • Belt - Shi Studios
  • Buckle (removed from its belt) - Zara, thrifted
  • Brass ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Bronze ring - P. Sarpaneva, vintage 70s, vintage expo
  • Silver/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Gold chain bracelet - Dad's
  • Chain/leather bracelet - thrifted
  • Coin earrings - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Choker - vintage 70s, Mom's

I "liberated" the coin earrings from Mom's jewelry box in the early 80s, and converted them to pierced with a couple of shepherd's hooks back then.

L and I played more boardgames on Saturday, accompanied by lots of music and Vizzini (who is enjoying the gorgeous weather we've had all weekend).
"Rock on!"

My silly, wonderful man.

I hope your weekend was fulfilling and fun! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Glad you had a relaxed weekend. Just what the doctor ordered and as you say often needed in a busy life. Loved the outfits but my absolute favourite were the psychedelic jeans - gorgeous and beautifully styled - as was L! Hope you have a great week.

  3. Down time is necessary in order for there to be up time. :) One of the best gifts we can give ourselves is self-care. I appreciate when you share your taking R&R time on weekends…it reminds the rest of us to occasionally take time to refuel, as well!

And I am a fan of both outfits. LOL I am noticing this is the second adidas piece that I wound up liking! Both outfits have a nice blend of grounded pizzazz.

Today is Memorial Day in the States, thus a holiday. The entire 3-day weekend has been filled with deliciously perfect weather (at least in my neck of the woods) - warm breezes, plenty of sun, cool nights for sound sleep and temps in the 70s during the days.

Here’s to a satisfying week to come!
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie! I definitely need the downtime more since the pandemic. It feels like life is zooming by!

Ha ha, watch out, I'll make you a fan of my Weird Adidas yet!

Oh, I'm well aware - the city is crammed with tourists right now! We've been having beautiful days here too - glad we're sharing that. :)

  5. Relaxation is good! Mine was so chilled I spent the entire weekend in a bikini, yipee!

    1. Definitely and oh so needed, Vix! Isn't a bikini your default in warm weather? :D

Thanks, I love that L is so stylin'!

  6. I'm not sure I'm ready to go back to "normal" yet ... Sometimes I think too many things have changed since you-know-what to ever feel completely "normal" again. I am craving quiet and down times more than ever lately ...
But let's talk clothes! I'm absolutely loving your Princess and the Pea outfit. The colour of that dress is gorgeous, and it looks just perfect with the thin top layered underneath. No bra shenanigans indeed.
The psychedelic jeans outfit is a stunner too!
And L. photobombing you is hilarious. xxx

    1. Me neither, Ann - I enjoyed all those quiet weekends we had for a few years, and I realize now how very valuable and essential those are to my mental health.

Thank you, my dear friend! What a silly man I have, eh? :D

  7. Love your photobomber! Last weekend was a quiet one for us too - hubby and I are definite introverts, as is one of my sons, but the other just thrives around people and always has to be doing something. This upcoming weekend is going to be a lot for us, but he will love it, haha! I can't pick a favourite outfit here - I really like those fun pants but the pink and green is just so perfect together!

    1. Extroverts can be exhausting! We are going into L's birthday week, which is usually a bunch of going-out events and being around people, as he's an extrovert. It's tricky to strike that balance when you're family is mixed - good for you!

No need to pick a favourite! I like them all!

  8. That dress is such a fun shape! I have bought a halftee to serve the purpose of a tee under a dress and it works so well as I have several dresses that I sometimes want to wear with a regular bra. Clothes definitely help my mood most days and I have lots of fun getting dressed and coming up with clothes combinations.

    1. Thanks, Mireille! I have loved the tee-layering trick since I first saw it in the 90s! I find getting dressed is such a good, creative thing for me.

  9. The psychedelic trousers are incredible, especially teamed with that flowing blouse and seventies platform heels. Brown is such a seventies colour too and so versatile! Loving those coin earrings too. :-)

  10. I LOVE the Photobomber! He is a brilliant! I also crave those downtimes and need them! I realise that since Lockdown which was a real respite for me after a manic few months, but especially now. I am so grateful for my beautiful home! I sometimes can't quite believe its mine!
