I'll be exhorting the wonders of dresses all week, as you know I own a lot of them. How many? A quick count of my spring/summer frocks tells me...52. That doesn't include the fall/winter ones packed away, or my gowns or party dresses.
This one made it into Carolyn's closet and she did wear it a few times, but she brought it back on the last major swap (here, scroll down), and I reconsidered and took it back.
Which is why I haven't worn it in nearly 2 years!
This particular dress is a Regret-Me-Not. Meaning, I had it in the giveaway pile and it's come back to me.

It's an unusual fabric - silk/metal (very shiny) woven into a floral pattern of black/cream, and then the print it on top of that.
It has a drop waist, so gives kind of a flapper-ish vibe. I layered a white tank cami underneath, as it's both very low in front and big in the arm-holes.

It also does not wrinkle. Amazing!
I also love that I have a vintage Bottega Veneta dress - they're high-end! They first launched a ready-to-wear line in the 90s, and I suspect this is from the late 90s or early 00s. New dresses by them are $2,000-6,000.

I felt pretty proud of myself for "inventing" scarf sleeves this morning to cover my arms.
This is a giant silk scarf, about 48 x 72" - I tied the two shorter corners together on each end and popped my hands into the "armhole" and voila! I'm covered, it barely touches my skin, and I can disassemble it into a tiny square when I'm done.

Now...what dress shall I wear tomorrow? Enjoy my very first Dress Week, from May 2008 (here, go to the bottom and work up). I still have the mustard cami (layered in the top outfit) and the green multi-bead necklace (in the bottom outfit)!
I love a dress week! I tend to default to dresses when it's just too hot here too, they really are the easiest instant outfit! It's good you got this dress back as it looks so good on you!
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you're already experiencing a heatwave. At barely into double figures these last couple of days, it is hard to imagine it being that warm. I'm so longing for milder temperatures, although I'm sure I'll be the first one to complain if they climb to the high twenties!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you put that dress in the giveaway pile either. How absolutely fabulous it is, I'm glad you saw sense and put it back in your wardrobe.
Loving the scarf trick, which I might very well steal from you :-) And no, I don't think 52 dresses is too much! I dare not even count mine :-)) xxx
I agree, it has a flapper-ish vibe, very 1920-ish. The metallic fabric is very on trend.

The print on that dress is divine, thank goodness you decided against giving it away. xxx
