Triple Brights, and Yellow Neon Blouse Flashback

I had A DAY today, starting with two mysterious stains that appeared on this leather skirt this morning.
I've determined they were likely there when I bought the skirt, and are definitely not cat pee (the joys of cat ownership - that is the first thing I thought!).

  • Blouse - Kate Spade, thrifted; last seen here in July 2021 with neon tweed
  • Skirt - Danier, vintage 80s, thrifted; purchased here for $19.95
  • Shoes - Arnold Churgin, vintage, thrifted; last worn here a couple of weeks ago, with bold stripes

I gently rubbed in some soap and water on the two black marks and blasted them with my hairdryer to quickly dry them. This got rid of the bottom mark (kind of a black stain?), but I could still see a mark right in the front and center of the skirt.

It's not that noticeable here though, right? You can see a bit of a dark mark, as I scrambled to take my pics and the skirt was still wet.
All that scrubbing and drying ate into my coffee and breakfast time, so I skipped both, arriving at work in a RAGE (hello, menopause) due to lack of coffee. I took my breakfast to work and ate it there, and sucked back a coffee quickly.

"Don't talk to me for at least an hour, please," I said to my chatty colleague Glenn, who steered clear. "Okay, the monster is gone," I said, once the coffee had kicked in.

I gave the front section of the skirt another gentle wash at work (soap and water, let it dry naturally), which took more of the mark out.
And I realized over the day that the colours of the skirt change under different lights - sometimes, you can't see anything, and sometimes, it's noticeable. When I popped out of the office to get my lunch, it was invisible.

So, I am taking a deep breath and letting go of the RAGE, and focusing on the triple-shot of bright colour in this outfit! Colour Therapy!
I loved these colours together. Aside from the whole mark-on-the-front drama, this skirt was butter-soft and a joy to wear. Can't wait to pair it with boots and a sweater for fall!

Masked up.
A tucked in top helps keep the proportions right. We'll have a little Flashback on this neon yellow blouse shortly.

Incognito.
Ah, colour...

Accoutrements:
I wrapped this giant scarf around my shoulders on the way home as my sunblock.

  • Scarf - Alexander McQueen, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
Barbie shoes! Love that classic 80s shape.

Floral bling:
All happy colours.

  • Necklace - thrifted
  • Cuff - Swarovski, consignment, gift from L
  • Bracelet - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Crystal ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Flower ring - Ollipop, Sidney; purchased here for $5.00
  • Earrings - gift, made by Sherri

And now...

Flashback: Kate Spade Silk Blouse

I tend to cycle through my blouses fairly quickly, as they get spilled on (guilty), or I wear them out (especially around the armpits), or I just get tired of them.
I've had this lovely silk blouse since March 2019, purchased here for a whopping $24.95 at the Patch (RIP!).

Not bad for Kate Spade, since it originally retailed for $198.00.
Many of my solid-coloured blouses were from the Patch, as I used to just spend ages going through their blouse rack about once a year to fill in any gaps in my top collection.

Let's take a gander at how I've worn it so far.

I bought this neon-based tweed skirt at the Patch on the same day as the blouse, so of course, I had to wear them together right away in March 2019.
You'll recognize the pale pink blazer (Flashback here) and the shoes (2020 Flashback here - I've worn them a ton since).

I paired the blouse with this funk long pencil skirt in May 2019.
I think that may have been the only wearing of that skirt (a Dots purchase) - it felt too much like Christmas red and green for my taste, so I gave it away. Yellow shoes Flashback here

A third wearing in the spring/summer season of 2019, here in July.
I am keeping that skirt, although this look is too frou-frou for me these days. Cool skirts are so rare, so I can't give it up! Skirt Flashback here; shoes Flashback here.

From wearing the blouse three times per season to...Welcome to the Pandemic! Down to once per season. This was in August 2020.
I got rid of those bizarre pirate pants (another Dots purchase), but I still have everything else. On this day, I was preparing the office for everyone's return...which did not happen.

Edging out of my twee looks, this red jacket was just removed from my closet this past week. I wasn't inspired to wear it, and it just did not feel like me. Also, no pockets!
This was in July 2021, and back to that matchy tweed skirt! This is the last time I wore the blouse. Shoes Flashback here.

Mathy stuff: I've now worn it 6 times which is a cost-per-wear of $4.16. Excellent! This little blouse is still a keeper (despite the ruffled shoulders) due to the fabulous colour and ability to go with lots of things in my closet. In non-pandemic times, I'm sure I would have worn it out by now.

  2. Oh I hate it when something like that happens, especially in the morning, which usually is an omen that it's going to be A DAY and there's going to be A RAGE!
I'm glad you were able to get the stains out, even if only partly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll disappear completely after a couple of gentle washes. It's very probably that no-one will notice except you though.
Loving the happy colours of your bling, blouse and Barbie pink shoes! xxx

    1. Ugh, it was the worst, Ann! I am feeling better about the skirt now - I see things that most people miss, so this could have been a deal-breaker on the skirt. Thank you so much for your kind empathy, my friend.

  4. My fav outfits are the two that pair the top with the neon tweed skirt. I always like a colorful pairing, along the lines of “matchy matchy” especially when one item, in this case the skirt, has a fun/funky pattern or weave.

Also am a fan of the Swarovski cuff!

Here’s to Wednesday improving upon your Tuesday!
    Cheers,
    Laurie

  6. I hate when something goes wrong in the morning and it sets off a chain of bad things for the day! I'm glad you were able to get the stains out of the skirt though, and I really like the blue, yellow and pink combination in this outfit! Your scarf is the perfect accessory! I need to try wearing mine with yellow more often :)

  7. I love the leather skirt and am impressed at how brave you are at tackling stains. Washing leather is an alien idea to me as I always believe only a dry cleaner can deal with such a fabric, but hey well done to you. Thanks for all the lovely throwback photos - your colourplay is always a joy to see x

    1. Aw, thanks, Anna! I don't fear any fabric - nearly everything can be washed carefully, IMO.

  8. I feel your pain, I get in a rage about clothes, too!
The blouse is such a good colour with the leather skirt which would lend itself to some of your amazing artwork if you can't shift that blasted strain. xxx
