I proclaimed myself "a beautiful butterfly" to two of my coworkers, and flapped my "wings" at them.
- Silk kimono - Nancymac, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in September 2019, over my outrageous Urbanite ensemble at the Art Gallery
- Sweater - Ellen Tracy, swap from Caro; last seen here in an outfit fail in April
- Skirt - Dries Van Noten, consignment; last worn here in November 2019 with purpureus
- Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last seen here in August 2019 with a fabulous striped dress
Vizzini was completely unimpressed with me this morning.
"My block toy is more alluring, Woman." |
We had a lovely sunny day today, and following my successful repair of the stains on these yellow shoes, I had to wear them with this wonderfully drapey silk kimono.
There's more yellow, see?I liked how the billowy silk went with my Genie skirt.
I have a thing for weird skirts. It's a thick woven gold lame (lah-MAY!) fabric, with a high waist and a bubble hem. Yes!
The stuff:
My shoes held up really well, although I don't do a ton of running around in the office these days. I did notice a few yellow wax flakes on the floor near my desk in the afternoon, though. But they still look pretty good for now.
Layered bling:
I am grooving on a flapper-ish vibe these days. Makes sense - it is the 20s, after all.
- Top chain - 2028, c. 1998
- Glass/wire chain - Oscar & Libby's
- Leaf necklace - Lisner, vintage 60s, Grandma J's
- Leaf bracelet - Trifari, vintage 60s, thrifted
- Gold/pearl bracelet - Trifari, vintage 60s, Mom's (I think)
- Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
- Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy
- Earrings - consignment
The top chain is in the giveaway pile now - all the gold colour has rubbed off. It wasn't expensive when I bought it more than 20 years ago at Eaton's.
Hey, Vizzini, I'm going to do a flashback of all my yellow Big Presence Desmond shoes. What do you think of that?
"Your shoes bore me." |
Ready? Including today's outfit, I've worn these shoes 21 times! Not bad, considering I bought them for $70 via the Fluemarket (Fluevog hosts a buy/sell site within their site), purchased here in February 2016.
This is the first outfit I made with them, in February 2016. I picked out the yellow in the jacket's pattern.
You might not think that yellow shoes would be a good investment, but they are awesome as a pop of colour.
In March 2016.
A black wool dress with an olive greenish obi, and green/yellow vintage jewelry.
There's that jacket again, in March 2016.
This time I paired them with a yellow sleeveless sweater that is not the same shade of yellow - my yellows rarely match. Don't care, close enough!
All tonally matchy with pastel yellow in May 2016.
L hasn't changed a bit, but my hair is so short there (and that's my previous pair of purple glasses)!
I love this outfit - pink and yellow is an unexpected combo. This is also in May 2016.
When I buy patterns, I always look for colours that I can play with.
This is from May 2016, well before the "cold shoulder" blouses were a thing - this is a vintage 90s version.
I still have that pink leather skirt.
In July 2016 with a pussy-bow blouse.
I went through a phase of those blouses. The skirt is one I've had for a very long time...and you'll see it again soon.
There is a tiny bit of yellow in the pattern of this top (it's cranes, by the way).
That's in July 2016 also.
Third time's the charm with this jacket.
I'd been on the lookout for a yellow belt to go with the shoes, and there it is! This is in August 2016.
Pink and yellow makes another appearance in September 2016.
There's that yellow belt again.
And again! This is from May 2017 - the yellow shoes get packed away over fall/winter for 6 months.
You'll notice I often wear my yellow Bakelite vintage earrings and my giant yellow cuff with the belt/shoes.
Another pattern with some yellow in it - this is a vintage Etro dress, worn in June 2017.
The full yellow "set" of earrings/cuff/shoes are deployed there as well. A no-brainer!
I loved this dress, but I had to be at my most strict chocolate rationing to wear it.
That was in July 2017. I didn't wear the shoes again for a year! I just wore them less that summer for whatever reason.
For Pride Week in July 2018, I wore one of each of my waxed canvas shoes.
I'm a rainbow! Get it?
A repeat with this beautiful skirt, as promised, also in July 2018.
I have the formula down! Yellow belt!
There's the full yellow set, including jewelry, in September 2019.
Yellow really cheers up taupe. There is a tiny bit of yellow in the blouse.
None of these yellows match exactly, but I can't imagine any other colour when the dress has a yellow hem.
That was in April 2019.
If you wear a yellow top, you have bookends of yellow.
That was in May 2019, a year ago.
There's today's kimono and a similar swath of necklaces, in July 2019.
Another yellow top - this one's cashmere - knowing I have the shoes to match.
Variations on the first time 'round, but with all the yellow jewelry added.
That's the last time I wore these shoes, in August 2019. I'm down to $3.33 per wear - which I'm really happy with.
That was fun! Does that convince you that you need yellow shoes? I always have a substantial collection of yellow in my closet - it's my sunshine colour!
"And this is my sunshine, Woman, so move along." |
I'm off tomorrow - enjoy your day, and I'll see you on Friday!
It would seem that you just can't put a wrong foot forward with a splash of yellow in your day! I actually love all the outfits and most of all the black/white/yellow stripe dress. Unbeatable.
ReplyDeleteNope, it's the best colour I own, Nana! I love yellow. Thank you so much - that dress is actually navy and white, but close enough. :)
DeleteYou wear those yellow shoes so well! I love the neutrals in your outfit with the pops of yellow, and of course I love the kimono! I haven't got a lot of bright shoes - something I need to remedy soon. I'd settle for being able to wear something other than my daggy running shoes, haha! I'm being very careful with my knee as I can't get to my physio.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Mica! Although my closet is full of colour, I do have a solid collection of neutrals because they are so useful for popping all that colour. It's the same ol' refrain from me about shoes: get more colours! Aw, but I understand about your knee. I hope you're able to get to your physio again soon, Mica.
DeleteThose yellow shoes were worth every penny! They look brilliant with everything you've teamed with them. My yellow Lottas are the same, I don't wear a lot of yellow but love them with everything I team them up with.
ReplyDeleteLove yesterday's outfit, the hem of the skirt is fabulous as it the stripe at the back of your kimono, a fantastic touch to an already great garment.
Vizzini looks very grumpy, does he want to come and hang out with our boys? We'll get him back to you in time for tea! xxx
They are such a versatile shoe - I never would have considered a yellow shoe to be a staple, but here you are, 21 wears and I still have tons of outfit options with them.
DeleteThanks so much, Vix! I love this skirt, but it's very tricky to style. I adored the kimono but was careful not to catch it on anything.
Vizzini is often grumpy - he's so easy to read. I always know what he's thinking. He would LOVE to visit your boys.
Oh my gosh those yellow shoes are to DIE for, you loo amazing. And I love that gold bubble skirt.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
Delete*sigh* This is why I come here. THIS.
ReplyDeleteReally? I'm not even sure what "THIS" means for you, Ally? The colour? The kimono? Me being a silly butterfly? :)
DeleteI can just imagine you flapping your wings at your colleagues! The wings ... err ... kimono is divine, and its yellow trim and back just called to wear your skillfully restored yellow shoes. Vizzini might not be impressed, but I certainly am! Obviously, I also love the bubbly lah-MAY skirt. And there's definitely a flapper-ish vibe going on, which I like very much. I've loved trawling through your shoe flashback. Lots of great outfits here. And yes, I think I need yellow shoes now. I do have yellow sandals, though. Hope you're having a lovely day off. xxx
ReplyDeleteI would have done it more if there had been more people around, Ann! I've been grooving on long, layered looks lately (there's a tongue-twister). Aren't the flashbacks fun? I love seeing all the ways I've worn things.
DeleteYellow sandals are good! I'm amazed at how much I love having yellow shoes. Happy weekend to you, my dear friend.
I used to almost exclusively wear yellow Converses in high school and for a while after always made sure to have a yellow pair of shoes in my rotation. It's been a while since I've had some yellow shoes, but I think it's time to change that! You reminded me how versatile they can be.
ReplyDeleteOoh, yellow Cons would be awesome. Time to get more! Thanks, Ashley!
DeleteThat's a lot of great yellow shoe outfits! I'm having trouble picking a favorite. I love the yellow hem stripe dress, the yellow dress and the pink and yellow floral skirt and pretty much everything! Awesome outfit today and I love the genie skirt. It's so great you were able to fix the shoes. I think I might need some yellow shoes.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks so much, Cheryene! I like all of the ones you picked too. I have a new(er)-to-me yellow dress that is a perfect match for these shoes. I'm so happy my fix worked, and thrilled to have them back in my closet. Yes, you definitely need yellow shoes!
Deletei always loved those poof, mushroom skirts/dresses! darling!...the other outfit i like is the color block one with the squares--love it!...still thinking of your brilliant way to cover up the stains on the yellow and orange shoes!
ReplyDeletexo Eva
Me too, ever since they were first out in the 80s! That's my stained glass dress - you would love the construction, Eva, it's amazing. Aw, thanks so much!
DeleteNow those shoes are a Good Buy! I have to say, I love the longer hair much better in you. I bought a similar skirt as the first one but then as a pencil skirt. Don t know yet how to style it!
ReplyDeleteThey really were, Nancy! Aw, thank you - I like it too, but I've liked all of my hairstyles over the years.
DeleteThe bottoms in the first outfit are culottes! I had them years before they came into vogue. You can do it! You're great at styling. :)
Now I need more yellow shoes. I do have an awesome pair of yellow sandals with removable flaps but they are do damned high, that I can hardly walk on them.
ReplyDeleteAdd walkable yellow shoes to the shopping list, Greetje! I know you'll find an awesome pair.
DeleteI had them on my shopping list, but came home with the ones that are too high....
DeleteI love the colours of these outfit, the neutrals against the yellow. That silk kimono is beautiful. The yellow detail on the kimono matches with the yellow heels perfectly. I like the skirt and the top as well. Such a great look altogether! The pop of yellow is so perfect. Those yellow heels are so pretty. They look great with all of these outfits.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Ivana! I do like a good neutral to really pop bright colours. Aw, I so appreciate that, thanks.
DeleteSeeeing all those blooming beautiful outfits with the yellow fluevogs makes me heart sing! They are gorgeous!! That dress with the yellow hem is gorgeous! I really like it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your wafty butterfly outfit!!!
Vizzini-zero foxes given! What a naughty boy!
Aw, thanks, Kezzie! I'm glad you enjoyed that. Thanks! Ha, Vizzini is a very naughty kitty.
DeleteYou are not just a beautiful butterfly, but a resplendently gorgeous one! If butterflies were clothes wearing fashionistas, I don't doubt for a moment that they'd gleefully take your styling lead here (and I'm sure many a human will do upon seeing you in person or on your blog).
ReplyDeleteImmense hugs & the absolutely most positive and sunny wishes for June,
Autumn Zenith 🧡 Witchcrafted Life
Aw, thank you so much, Autumn. Ha! This reminds me, I should have worn my clip-on springy-winged butterfly! Next time.
DeleteYou are so sweet, thanks, my dear.
If I could find a pair of lemon yellow shoes that fit me and didn't pinch my bunions I would buy them. Who knew yellow looked so good with pink?
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I love those colours together. Good luck with the search, Shelley!
DeleteWoww, love your genie skirt and how fabulously it goes with the kimono, they create a really amazing shape together, and a fantastic and unexpected color combo!
ReplyDeleteLovely recap, so many delightful floral prints with bits of yellow and so many fab yellow accessories matching your shoes!. You're Brilliant!
I totally agree that bold color shoes in your fav color are a Great Idea!. I had a pair of yellow sandals, wore them to bits and now I miss them badly!
besos
Thank you so much, Monica! I loved how fun this outfit was.
DeleteI'm glad you all enjoy these - I have fun doing them.
I love bright-coloured shoes - any coloured shoes, really. Black is so boring.
