Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Fancy Friday in White Jeans; Tiger-Lady Brunch; Mica's Bag Part 3

Folks, it looks like Blogger has fully stopped sending email notifications of blog posts
 - and they don't have anything to replace it.
If you've been relying on emails to know when I've posted,
please bookmark/favourite my blog and check back frequently
- I post 4-5 times a week.

Now, onto to the good stuff. Friday's outfit - I wore jeans!
Well, white jeans.

  • Dress (worn open) - I'M Isola Marras, Spring/Summer 2013, Florence, Italy; last worn here in September 2021 with pink pants
  • Shirt - Denver Hayes, consignment; last seen here in July, layered under Marimekko spots
  • White jeans - Cambio; first worn here (2nd outfit) in May with dots and jungle print
  • Shoes - Prepare Guide, Fluevog; last seen here (2nd outfit) with a sparkly jumpsuit for Canada Day in July

Like the last time I wore this dress, I opened up the front and layered it over pants.
I wore a sleeveless pink shirt underneath.

You can see the collar of the shirt on the outside of the dress, which also has a collar.
These jeans were only $4.99 at Dots earlier this year.

I like white - it goes with everything.
And I don't care too much if they get stained.

Masked up.
Matching the greens in the pattern.

  • Mask - by Mom

Incognito.
It was sunny and mild on Friday, so not even a scarf needed.

The stuff:
I do love these shoes. That's all platform - these are practically flat.

Odd bling:
The waist on the jeans is huge on me (I don't need to undo them to get them off/on), and this was one of the only belts that was long enough.

  • Belt - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Bracelet - vintage 1930s, vintage mall
  • Studded silver/Lucite bracelet - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Earrings - vintage 1920s, vintage fair
  • Silver/aventurine ring (on the green bracelet) - consignment
  • Malachite/silver ring  - consignment

After an evening of board games (what can I say? L and I love games), we were up bright and early on Saturday. L and Randall picked up our new TV - very exciting! Our current telly is over 15 years old, so time to get with the cool kids. After that, we headed down to the Ruby for brunch with Nick.
This dress is too amazing to save it "for good" - and what does that mean anyway? Every day is a good day to wear a fabulous dress!

  • Dress - Kenzo X H&M, 2016, consignment; purchased here for $86.99
  • Shoes - Sam Edelman, thrifted; last worn here in June with a Mondrian skirt

I styled it up to make it more flattering on me, but I thought y'all would want to see how it looks "au naturel."
It says, "I am a big tiger-blob!"

So droopy.
And of course, it's miles too long on me.

Even if I stretch out in a dramatic pose.
I think you can get an idea of how massive it is!

Of course, a belt solves everything.
I bloused it slightly above the belt to pull the hem up a bit.

Look at all that swooshy fabric!
I delighted in strolling along the sidewalk in this, wafting in the very light wind.

As noted when I bought it, this dress is supremely sheer.
I have underpinnings on.

Shorts shenanigans! Saucy!
I also have a black slim tank top/cami on.

Masked up for the grocery store.
Look out! There's a tiger lady in the produce section!

Incognito and showing off my pockets. I stashed my mask in one, and my glasses/sunnies bag in the other.
Saturday was very warm - up to 25 degrees (mid-80s), which is just perfectly to my taste.

For Vlad the Jaguar, I tied a silk scarf over my head.
When not wearing it, I tied it to my purse.

Rear view.
I was fully sunblocked for waiting in line at the Ruby.

Accoutrements:
First use of my new-to-me purse - it fit my wallet, keys, lipstick/mirror, and a shopping bag. Perfect!

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff Linear Studded Rocker Bag, 2009, consignment; purchased here for $65.00
  • Silk scarf - Fluevog
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
My little studded flats were perfect.

Rocker bling:
All my favourite things!

  • Belt - BCBG Max Azria, consignment
  • Studded cuff - vintage 90s
  • Enameled cuff - consignment
  • Turquoise ring - Mexican, Karen's
  • Silver/enamel ring - antique store, Sidney
  • Earrings - Betsey Johnson, swap from Cat

Just as we were about to leave, Vizzini threw himself down in the doorway.
"You shall not go out!"

Silly boy! We'll be back!

And we were - following our grocery shop. We spent the afternoon doing art (me) and setting up our new TV (L). As is our usual when nothing else is going on socially, we played board games till the wee hours.
"I want attention!"

Vizzini got some tummy rubs, then joined us.
"I whack at the pieces! I'm helping!"

Very helpful. And now...

Art Project: Mica's Bag, Part 3

I've finished the sides AND the bottom of Mica's bag this week - I've been working away at it here and there. You can go here if you missed the last update, and this was where I'd gotten to:
The finished front! Very exciting!

I moved on to the sides - keeping the design cohesive.
Vines around the outside, and a rose hiding under the zip.

Zipped up.
Where did the rose go??

Vizzini was my able assistant, as always.
"Feed me, or your pen gets it."

Darkening up everything.
The other side is the same with slight variations.

Now adding the colour.
Pretty leaves and thorny vines.

And a rose!
The other side has a blue rose.

The sides didn't take very long - maybe 2 hours total over the work-week - and one 2-hour session on Saturday and I finished the bottom as well.
I like to inject a bit of humour into my pieces, and I can't just leave the bottom blank!

Tee hee!
Mica, I hope you don't mind showing strangers your nice bottom. *snicker*

Nothing ground-breaking, stuff I've done before.
I didn't mess up any of the letters, yay!

All darkened up.
I like all that detail.

And there's the colour.
Pretty purple and blue roses. This is going quickly, but I haven't quite coalesced the design for the back of the bag yet.

My bitey helper went after the pens.
"CHOMP."

He can't resist pens - he always tries to grab them.
"This one is mine."

Well, there you go. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! Thank you so much for dropping by!

  1. Sorry for not commenting regularly - I do read your posts, but google will only let me comment some of the time now that my blog is no longer active, or visible. Sigh. The belt makes a world of difference with the animal print dress. Mica's bag looks great - I love the "nice bottom" addition.

Mica's bag is wonderful, "nice bottom" made me giggle almost as much as Vizzini gnawing your pen, naughty boy! xx

Vizzini is always pawing at pens when I'm writing something. Hee, the bottom makes me smile.

  7. The Tiger dress is so good on you - it looks fantastic belted and I really like the studded accessories with it! but of course the bag has stolen all of my attention - I love it and laughed out loud at the Nice Bottom bit! Like an actual guffaw - it's the best! I can't believe how incredible it looks, I'm so lucky you are creating such a stunning piece for me and I adore the zipped away rose, what a cute idea! Thank you again for this!

  8. Wow, that Kenzo dress looks absolutely amazing on you! You must have made quite an impression in the aisles of the grocery store! And Mica's bag, what can I say! It's just incredible, and I'm absolutely loving the addition of the "nice bottom"! Re: Blogger emails, I've noticed the same. I guess it would have happened one day. But of course I've already bookmarked you in my Blogger reader ages ago! xxx

    1. Thanks, Ann! I don't know - I didn't get a lot of comments from people, so I really need to wear it again soon!

      Aw, thank you so much!

Ugh, it's so annoying. Same! Wouldn't miss a post!

  9. I was not a fan of the 'droopy dress' until I saw it belted. What a difference a belt makes! It looked wonderful on you and I can see why you needed the shorts underneath. Loved the white jeans and dress unbuttoned over it, too. You have some marvellous jewellery, Sheila.

And as for Mica's bag it is absolutely gorgeous. She will love it to death.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Vizzini, you are one weird cat!

    1. I think a lot of folks were dubious, Vronni - belt magic has worked a wonder on the dress. Aw, thank you - I have been curating my collection for decades.

I hope she does - it's fun being able to share it as I go.

Vizzini is the most weird cat ever. Fact.

  12. Ok this post is just too good. Let's start with the white jeans styling: LOVE that you paired it with the button dress you transformed. I'm going to do this too with my white pants for sure. Next...OK this dress is PHENOMENAL!! I'd want to wear this on the repeat like forever. Wow-n couture vibes all the way. As for that bag-I don't know how you have these fabulous creative ideas. The result is fantastic- how beautiful!! And love your Vizzini, so cute. Have a great week my friend xx

  13. I snorted over 'nice bottom!'
The bag is gorgeous!! You are clever!!!
I love how you wore the dress open. That's clever. I might try it with some of my shirt dresses!
The Sheila styling makes that wonderful dress work so well!
I'm intrigued to know which board games you and l like and play.
I wish CBC would play more board games with me. He is always on his phone or asleep! Kezzie xx xx

    1. So did Mica! :) Thanks so much, Kezzie!

This is the second time I've worn the dress like this - and I actually prefer it over wearing as a dress. I hope that works for you - give it a shot!

Our favourite games: Arkham Horror (no longer in print, ginormous game), Space Base, Race for the Galaxy, Dune (pretty new game, very fun). These are mostly board games with little pieces, but all of them are totally fun with two people. They have the right amount of strategy and randomness, and the more you play the better you get at them.

  14. Your opening outfit has me thinking a pair of white jeans is a handy item for summer. Plus I have a similar style top (mine wasn’t a dress, just a large silk blouse that was my Mom’s) and it would look quite nice with a shirt underneath and white jeans. Hmmmm….

I wasn’t a fan of the Kenzo when you first showed off the purchase but it sure improved a lot once you belted it!

Now for the bag….oh my, another masterpiece is on the way to being finished! And such a nice bottom. :)

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. I've really enjoyed having white jeans - not a thing I've ever owned before! Nice, I hope you make that outfit happen, Laurie!

Yup, a belt makes it all better!

Aw, thank you! I've been having so much fun working on this bag - and I finally figured out what to do on the back!

  15. I like that both outfits are changed up a bit. The first one has an interesting quirky look that way and the second goes from dowdy to fabulous!

Your bags are so amazing! I'm surprised bag companies aren't chasing you down the street to buy them! I guess they haven't seen your blog!
