Half Canada Day, Half Sunny (and a Snoozy Cat)

Happy Friday, my friends! Yesterday was Canada Day - and while I love my country and its diverse people, it has been a low-key "party day" for us this year, as we grapple with our not-so-recent past and treatment of our indigenous people. I don't get into politics on my blog, but my orange jumpsuit of Wednesday helps to show my support.

I do believe I live in one of the best nations on earth, however, and I will always proudly wear my red and white.
Maybe with some extra neon yellow this year. Canada is all the colours!

  • Jacket - Dex, consignment; last worn here in May over the now-departed Lifesaver dress
  • Blouse - Kate Spade, thrifted; last seen here in August 2020 in a neon pirate look
  • Skirt - J. Crew, thrifted; last worn here in April 2020 with a different neon top
  • Shoes - Zoomies Ishshoes, Fluevog; last seen here (2nd outfit) in May for a cancelled Zoom call

I could easily have taken the day off, but now that the end of pandemic restrictions are in sight (BC will go back to "normal" after the September long weekend), I'm saving my vacation time for actual vacation!
Some sunny neon yellow on the top half in the form of this lovely silk Kate Spade blouse.

The tweed skirt is much brighter in person, with bright neon yellow lining, as well as slubs of neon yellow, bright red, and flecks of pink and burgundy.
You can get a better idea of the colour from the stair picture.

I like the white belt/shoes/earrings to lighten things up.
I only worked a half-day as Thursday was a stat holiday - I had a few hours to make up in order to reach my weekly allotment.

I wore the jacket for the office AC and to cover myself from the sun.
But I mostly had it off in the office as the sun came out (we're headed for a balmy 24 degrees today - perfect!).
There's my red and white for Canada's flag. I love the ruffles.

Masked up. Even though our province's mandate is now "masks recommended" my office is still following full safety protocols.
Until I've had my 2-week "safety-first" period following my second jab, I intend to keep wearing my masks to keep myself and others safe.

The stuff:
I love these shoes - they are fun and comfy to wear. That all-rubber wedge heel is very squishy!

Minimal bling:
I didn't feel like loading myself up today.

  • Silicone cuff - Material Design, thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted, Sidney

And now, cat pictures! Vizzini has been extremely happy with the cooler temperatures.
"Go away, Woman. I'm dreaming of a soft bed and warm sun."

He's been shedding like mad - I have to brush him daily to keep it under control.
"Wait, it wasn't a dream!"

Keep soaking up that sun, little bud.
"Officer Vizzini is on the job, Woma----zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...."

Following my half day, I met up with L for lunch. We're going to party with our Winesday/MANday crew tonight, and I'm so excited to see everyone!
"Wait, you're going out? But what about me?"

I love this funny pose - Vizzini's back feet are hanging out of the box.

I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure! Stay safe, be chill and a sunny happy weekend to all of you, and a very Happy Fourth of July to my US friends! Thanks so much for stopping by.

  1. With the jacket on the outfit looks like a suit even though the jacket is different from the skirt, and I love the whole ensemble! The jacket colors are perfect with the outfit.

Ah, the life of a cat. Oh, pardon me Vizzini…the life of THIS cat is truly purrfect :-)

Looking forward to seeing your weekend pictures after your gang gets together. Meantime, here's to a grand time and the nice weather!

    1. They go well together, don't they, Laurie? I have worn this skirt and jacket before, as I like how they complement each other.

I know, he is so spoiled/lucky!

I didn't take a lot of pics, but we'll have that post later on today. :)

  4. Completely agree with your comments regarding Canada Day. We celebrated by getting our second jabs and taking our son for his first vax shot.

Love the neon! So very summery :)

I wish we could all be as content as Vizzini looks to be. In a perfect world perhaps.

    1. Yeah, it didn't feel right to be all "rah-rah" this year, Nana.

Thank you so much! Oh, I totally agree, to be blissfully in the moment at all times like a cat!

  5. The slubby tweed skirt and ruffled jacket are a match made in heaven, and I'm loving the sunshiny yellow blouse!
We are slowly going back to some kind of normal here, but I'll keep holding my breath for the foreseeable future. As for mask wearing, we still need to wear it inside shops and public spaces, as well as in most shopping streets. Like you, I'll be wearing it wherever I feel it's too busy, even after the two-week period.
Aww, look at Vizzini. I'm loving that final picture. Cats, eh, they can make themselves comfortable in the most awkward of ways! Enjoy your weekend, Sheila! xxx

    1. They are such a great match, aren't they, Ann? I have worn the jacket and skirt together before, and the skirt and blouse together, but not all three at once.

That sounds promising. I hope it gets better for you, but I'll keep on wearing my mask until I feel safe.

Isn't he lovely? Ah, to be a cat!

  6. I really like that jacket, it makes me miss my red boucle jacket every time, I don't know why I ever got rid of it! It looks great with the yellow :)

The way things are going we may not even have our vaccinations here by September which is so frustrating, the government has been so slow to order enough vaccines. We are just out of a 3 day lockdown today too, as when a case gets out of quarantine (or 3 different cases spread here, eek!) we have to lockdown to find all the contacts and put them in quarantine as not enough of us are vaccinated. So frustrating. At least life is normal the rest of the time, but if they could just give us enough vaccines lockdown wouldn't happen!

    1. Thanks so much, Mica! Maybe it just wasn't your style? But I'm sure you can find another if you keep your eyes peeled.

That is so frustrating! I hope your gov will get a supply soon and get you all jabbed so that you don't have to keep on waiting for these clusters to blow up! Good luck!

  7. Happy belated Canada day. I know some Croatian people who moved there for work...who knows I might end up there myself.
I love your skirt and how you styled it. Wonderful shoes as well.

  8. Vizzini is such a lovely cat. My cat Sophie isn't half as nice. Not a cuddly cat although she is getting better now that I am at home more.
I never knew about Canada and the treatment of the indigenous people (even had to look that word up). Shelley is sharing your opinion.

    1. He has gotten very cuddly in his middle-age, Greetje.

It's not something we are proud of (to say the least). It's a very shameful part of our history.

  9. Happy belated Canada Day, Sheila! It takes a great country to admit to its past mistakes and to learn from them, no wonder you love your homeland.
A very zingy outfit, I be those shoes are divine to walk in.
We're expecting BoJo to announce the end of social distancing on 19th July in a press conference later, leaving it to the individual to decide whether or not to wear masks, sounds a bit of a cop-out to me but what do I know?
    Vizzini is just gorgeous! xxx

    1. Thanks so much, Vix! I really hope we are able to reconcile the people in our country - there is a lot of bad feeling there.

Thank you! Yes, the shoes are very comfy.

I have heard that! Very exciting for you all! We are also at a "masks recommended" stage - I'm just going to keep doing my own thing until I'm 2 weeks past my 2nd jab.

He is a beautiful cat, isn't he?

  10. I love this neon yellow look on you! So cheerful and the perfect way to celebrate your nation's independence! I feel like our entire continent has been rather shitty to indigenous peoples and it is an issue that I grapple with as well. I am glad to hear that you will return to some pre-pandemic normalcy soon. And I am loving the Vizzini photos! What a little cutie.

    1. Thanks so much, Shelbee! I agree - the US and Canada both have to answer for their treatment of indigenous people, not to mention all the other immigrants over the years. Sigh. When will we learn?

Yup, we are headed back to normal - it feels weird, but also really good! Vizzini is such a ham - he is too cute for words!

    1. It was utterly awful, and I'm so glad it's gone. I think the cats like the attention from the brushing.

  13. It's been interesting, though perhaps not wildly surprising, to see how quickly many people have stopped wearing masks now that doing so is not longer strictly required everywhere. Personally (especially since I only have my first vaccine at this point), I'm remaining masked up anytime I'm in a public setting and don't plan to stop sporting one anytime soon. It's awesome, of course, to see case numbers dropping, vaccine counts increasing, and so forth, but we're not collectively out of the woods yet and I'd rather veer on the side of caution until we finally are.

Smart thinking regarding holding off on taking time off until you're able to embark on an actual holiday. We're hoping to get in a wee road trip to the Kootanies this fall, if possible. To say that I can scarcely wait would be a massive understatement!

    1. Yes, I still see quite a few in the wild here, but most people have abandoned wearing them when outdoors. I will still be wearing my mask when I'm around crowds, even after my 2nd jab has taken full effect. It does feel like the end is in sight, though.

Good for you! I hope it is restful and not scary with forest fires.
