Burgundy Bookends

Ah, finally - it's my long weekend, at last, with four whole days off in a row. I look surprised!
I laughed when I uploaded this picture - I usually have tired "coffee" eyes in the morning (as in Gimme My Coffee), so I did a quick open-wide blink. I'm not really surprised.

  • Sweater - Karl Lagerfeld, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in March for a Saturday Zoom call
  • Skirt - Anna Sui, thrifted; first worn here in June in an outfit salad
  • Boots - Baroque Velasquez, Fluevog; last seen here in January with my massive Phool vest
  • Coat (below) - L'Atiste, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in October

Vizzini's been lurking around - he wants lots of cuddles now that the weather is cooling off.
"You're just a heat source, Woman."

Back to the outfit! After wearing this funky skirt in the summer just after I bought it, I realized that even though it's very thin material, it's not really a summery skirt.
I much prefer it with the darker colourways of autumn - I picked out the dark red in the roses for my complementary burgundy bookends.

I layered a short black slip under it.
The sweater is fun - look at those massive sleeves!

But I know you're probably staring at these gorgeous boots.
They are rather spectacular. Coworker Ngoc approved of this outfit.

Masked up.
I picked out the turquoise/teal colour, just for a break from all that burgundy.

Outerwear - I only have one coat that can handle the massive sleeves.
My arms look like sausages!

Accoutrements:
That cashmere and silk pashmina is one of my better thrift purchases - it was $9.95.

  • Pashmina - Portolano, thrifted
  • Gloves - consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

Boot stuff:
Ugh, evening light - these are a much richer burgundy in person. There's a Flashback here, if you're interested - I've had them for nearly 10 years and am at 22 wears, I think.

Bold bling:
My colleague Supreet loved my necklace - it's very Indian (as in India) in design and of course, all that gold. I am sure this is not real gold, though!

  • Necklace - D'Orlan, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Gold hoops - 5th anniversary gift from L
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

And now, my friends, I'm going to leave you for a few days, but I will be posting the completed Gold Wing dress, so pop by in the next couple of days to check it out.
"That dress doesn't taste good."

For once, something Vizzini doesn't want to chew on!

Sending my respect to all military and veterans on Remembrance Day tomorrow. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. Those boots look like pure luxury. I'd likely trip but am excited for boot weather.

  2. Just now scanning the post (after reading it) the skirt had me thinking of your Spanish Ladies dress. I think a last glance at the back of the skirt is what triggered the association. In any case, this is another cozy looking outfit, one that envelops with color and comfort. :) Yes, truly the colors of fall!

Here’s to a long weekend, the angel of golden wings, and Vizzini cuddles!

  4. Isn't it heavenly to have an extra long weekend? I'm already enjoying mine, although enjoying isn't entirely the correct word, as I'm suffering from an old-fashioned head cold and have been on the couch for most of the day :-(
Anyway, seeing your outfit cheered me up no end. That skirt does indeed benefit from Autumn colours, and your burgundy bookends fit the bill perfectly. I had to laugh when you wrote your arms looked like sausages :-) That's the trouble with those ginormous sleeves, but really, they look quite alright underneath that coat!
Wishing you, L. and the mighty Vizzini a most wonderful weekend xxx

  5. I bet Vizzini is going to enjoy all those extra snuggles now you've broken up for the weekend!
Even though I'm not a knitwear wear I do love that fancy sleeved sweater, it's perfect with the golden Bollywood bling!
As we say in the Black Country, Have a Bostin' weekend, bab! xxx

  6. I love the accessories in this look. Beautiful statement necklace. The boots are very chic as well. Great outfit as a whole. That's a lovely skirt and it looks great with autumn colours. You are right, just because some item is made out of thin material, it doesn't mean we cannot wear it in colder weather. As long as layer well (as you did), there's so reason why not to wear those light fabric items. This autumn and winter I plan to wear more thin materials paired with thick ones.

  7. Wishing you a great break away from work. Enjoy.

The skirt does fit beautifully into an Autumn/Winter wardrobe. It looks good with the burgundy jumper (amazing sleeves) and boots.
I’m already in awe of you winter boots collection. x

  9. I am always on the lookout for winter weight tops with unusual sleeves, like the one you are wearing in this post. Sylvester has definitely been more snuggly now that the weather is colder here too. We are just a source of food and body heat! Enjoy your extra long weekend!

  12. I have adored (and continue to adore) a great many pairs of shoes that you've shared here with us over the years, but these sensational burgundy boots might just be my new faves. I audibly gasped, no joke, upon seeing them. Truly stunning footwear, my dear friend.
