I've worn so much colour this month that I'm actually starting to miss some of the black in my wardrobe. I got my fix today with this black sweater with its white "wings" - I reclaimed it from the giveaway pile as a regret-me-not when I tidied up for Ciara a couple of weeks ago.
I'm not sure why I put it in the giveaway in the first place; it's a beautiful Club Monaco sweater, and even has a matching peplum hem with matching white trim. Maybe it was the ruffles. I've been "off" ruffles lately.
- Sweater - Club Monaco, thrifted; last worn here in February 2020 with a very short skirt
- Dress - Plum; last seen here last November 2020 for brunch with Betty
- Shoes - 5YMedio; last worn here in October with green pleats
- Coat (below) - Mallia, consignment; last seen here in February
If you wondered why the light in the stair picture is so pink, this was the sunrise happening while I took that pic.
That's a very orange/pink sunrise. It did bring a brief flash of rain in the morning, but mostly it's been grey and cold. Brr. Back to the outfit. I've had this red plaid dress forever - it's also been grabbed out of the giveaway more than once.
But I've never found a better red plaid dress, so it stays until I find an upgrade.

That's a vintage half-slip hanging out the bottom - the dress is unlined, so I like a slip.
I enjoyed the patterned tights with this look, plus the white shoes.

Isn't that some sort of rule-breaking? White shoes + black tights?
I'm sure it is for someone! Not me, obviously.

Outerwear - it was cold enough for me to pull out this long wool coat.
I found it last year at House of Savoy for a mere $78.00 - it's 70% baby alpaca wool, and 30% regular sheep wool, so it's snuggly warm.

I like the red accessories with it.
I also like the extra-long hem - and it has a big back slit for walking.

Accoutrements:
I'm getting a lot of wear out of this scarf - apparently, I really needed a red-based patterned scarf!

I'm glad you took the top and the dress back from the giveaway pile! They both look good on you :) that sunrise looks amazing as well!
ReplyDeleteHa, the rule I remember is not to wear white after Labor Day (early September). Always figured that’s how the color “winter white” came to be, thus skirting the rule. There is something about a red and black plaid that always says “cozy” to me, and your outfit does just that along with a healthy dose of pizzazz! Am glad you rescued the dress from multiple possible exits!
ReplyDeleteIf that is a rule then it deserves to be broken. All fashion rules do, in my opinion. Just wear what you like regardless of trends and rules, that's my motto!
ReplyDeleteCan't imagine why you would put that delightful winged jumper in the giveaway pile in the first place. It's absolutely delightful and looks fabulous worn under your red plaid dress.
It's been getting colder here too, so it's a good thing I love wearing coats. Yours is a stunner, I do love a long coat. Hurray for slits, though! xxx
What a stunning sunrise! I'm very glad you once again rescued the plaid dress. I love that long, elegant coat.
ReplyDeleteThat long coat makes me regret the long coats I gave away...sigh!
ReplyDeleteSnap with the grey and cold weather! Gorgeous sunrise though, they can be beautiful at this time of year,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you rescued that jumper (and the dress) from the giveaway pile, they look fabulous on you. Loving the white shoes and that luxe coat. xxx
I am so here for each of your head-turningly gorgeous recent red and black looks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beaut this one is! The pairing of a fitted sleeveless dress with a ruffle shouldered top is pure sartorial brilliance.

What an amazing sunrise.
ReplyDeleteSeeing these pics, you must be glad that you rescued your clothes from the ‘give away.’ You look great!
Really like the plaid; great Autumn/Winter outfit. x

Those ruffles look so good peeking out from under the straps of your dress. Well saved from the giveaway pile!
ReplyDeleteI love your little "wings" sticking out from your plaid dress. That sweater needs to stay in your closet (at least a little longer).
ReplyDeleteI love that coat. I found a similar one, also second-hand, also alpaca with wool. Soft as a kitten. Yours is longer (or I am taller) and more fitted. Really nice.
