Fancy "Friday": Layered Tube and the Grape Ape

Like my American friends south of the border, I celebrate US Thanksgiving by taking the Thursday/Friday off every year and taking an extra-long weekend. I am thankful for giving myself this gift! Happy Thanksgiving to my US friends and readers!

So today was my Fancy Friday, even though it's Wednesday. It's my Friday.
My colours are black, grey, pink, purple and orange, and the top is woven with a silver sparkle.

  • Top - M by Missoni, thrifted; last worn here with purple and these same shoes in March
  • Wool dress - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage 90s, thrifted; last seen here in February with roses
  • Shoes - Mission Monica, Fluevog; last seen here with this top in March
  • Coat (below) - Forever 21, thrifted; last worn here in November 2020 for dinner out with Tammy

Getting in an early wearing of this vintage wool knit tube dress. Tt's that classic 90s style, and it's by Dolce & Gabbana - KLASSY!
I always layer a top under it, but I've never worn it with this stripey one.
The grey tights matched the grey in the shoes and the grey stripe in the top.
Masked up:
I had a short video chat with my colleague in Calgary and got to show off my outfit. Yay for fashionable coworkers!

Outerwear - I can't believe it's been a year since I wore the Grape Ape coat! Of course, last fall/winter, we didn't get out much.
Oh yeah, that pandemic thing. We're being warned to not see too many people and be too physically close over the holidays...sounds ominous. 78% of my province is fully-vaccinated, and boosters are being rolled out (Mom's booked!). I'll likely get mine in February.

Accoutrements:
Soft and warm.

  • Fur boa - thrifted
  • Cashmere beret - Club Monaco, thrifted
  • Gloves - consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I took one of my shoes off to show to my colleague - see the angels on the heels?

Amber bling:
This is most of my amber collection and a chunk of my Brutalist pieces.

  • Cuff and bracelet - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, vintage mall, gifts from L
  • Earrings - vintage, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Amber/silver drop necklace - vintage, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Amber/silver short necklace - vintage, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Brutalist ring - Finland, vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Hematite ring - thrifted (I use it to hold the other ring in place)

I'm off to make a pot of chili for our annual all day US Thanksgiving football marathon tomorrow, and L and I have lots of fun things happening this weekend. I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure!

  1. Enjoy your time off Sheila! :) I like that striped top under the dress :)

We are still covid 0 here but I'm curious to see what will happen when things open up - our borders open just before Christmas. I'm hoping not long after then the kids can get vaccinated, but we intend to have a kind of quiet summer holidays with the kids and do our usual staying outdoors and away from crowds once the borders reopen and we get covid cases. We stayed on the coast last weekend as a mini break to let them enjoy their fave theme park they had missed, and we have another themepark trip planned for just before things open up as they have been asking to go for a while!

  2. Hi Sheila, happy thanksgiving for the people in our lives. Happy sigh. :)

Here’s to your long, lovely weekend! We traveled by car from NY to Pennsylvania and today us PAers and NYers will head to Delaware for the day. All family, all vaccinated (including the children). It is a balance…filling the heart with family and being attuned to keeping the body safe! We will see Fred’s next older brother & his family, and we haven’t seen them in 2+ years.

  5. Your striped Missoni top looks a treat worn under your Dolce & Gabbana tube dress, but my eyes keep getting drawn to those amazing shoes, which are definitely playing the starring role. Good to see the Grape Ape too!
As for the pandemic, it does sound ominous indeed. We're getting the same advice, as our numbers keep going up in spite of the +90% vaccination grade here in Flanders. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the boosters - I expect mine around the same time - will do the trick!
Have a most wonderful weekend Sheila xxx

  9. What a chic, fabulous 90s D&G frock. Few things define 1990s fashion more for me than a form fitting spaghetti strap dress and I well remember those that I owned as I hit my teen years in the later part of the decade.

  10. Enjoy your long weekend.
You've just reminded me I have an M by Missoni top I need to wear. Not nearly as beautiful as yours, and without the styling skills.

  12. Have a great long weekend!

Those shoes really are superb - I don't know if it's the colour of the heels, but they immediately made me think of art deco architecture.

  13. Since my workplace is populated with students who are not necessarily the most careful when it comes to COVID exposure (we had an outbreak of about 10 cases in one of the residences recently), I'm hoping they don't all go crazy hanging out with friends and family sans masks over the holidays. I'm hoping to get my booster shot in January.
