Fancy Friday: Celadon Suit, Ruffles and a Dotted Shoe Flashback

Woo, it's Friday! And it's finally time to wear my celadon suede suit. I showed this off to my coworker Milind, who asked me, "Is that olive?"

Nope, not olive, but at least he got that it was in the green family. I wasn't going to get into celadon and colours too deeply with him. Although now that I poke around online, celadon is actually more of a bluey-green colour, verging into the colours of milky jade. We called this shade "celadon" back in the late 90s, though, so I'm sticking to it.
It will also make it easier for me to find the jacket or skirt next time I wear them, as searching on "Danier" is tedious (I have a lot of Danier). Celadon, celadon, celadon!

  • Suede suit - Danier, vintage 90s, thrifted; purchased here for $35.00
  • Top - H&M, consignment; last seen here in July 2020 with a colour-blocked skirt
  • Shoes - Lola Ramona; last worn here in June 2020 with a pattern-mixed top and yellow
  • Coat (below) - Tangerine Jill, thrifted; last seen here (4th outfit) in March

I loved wearing this suit today, although hardly anyone saw me in it. Thanks for letting me twirl for you, colleague Gary!
The suit was incredibly comfy to wear, and not overly warm. Where does this myth come from that leather is hot to wear? It's skin - it breathes!
I love the shape of the skirt - the jacket fit is "of its time" and is rather boxy.

If it had been 10 or 15 degrees warmer, I might have taken the jacket off.
Nope, it was cold and rainy all day.

I do love this top, though, and it's going to appear twice more in this post (foreshadowing).
Look at the bows on the back of my shoes! We'll be having a Flashback on them shortly.

Masked up - going with more black and white patterns.
I'm going to get rid of this mask - it doesn't fit well and I don't like how muddy it looks in pictures.

The jacket done up. Such a weird cut - I only wore it like this under my coat.
But I can't resist the ruffles on the sleeves! And on the hem!

Outerwear - more ruffles! I must have all the ruffles!
I couldn't resist the bold pink with the green of the suit peeking out. I'm sure I was searingly bright walking through the grey streets.

Outerwear stuff:
I had to do a quick change-up with the silk scarf on the way home, and quickly do the Movie Star Wrap with it to protect me from the rain.

  • Scarf - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Mask - Mango's
  • Leather gloves - vintage, thrifted

The stuff:
Oh, sweet dotty shoes!

Black and white bling:
I spy black and white kitties too!

  • Cuff - vintage fair
  • Lucite bangle - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Sidney
  • Silver/onyx ring - Toccara, vintage fair
  • Shield ring - Nine West
  • Earrings - Winnie Tam, customized by me

Um, don't look at my shoddy toe "repair" on that shoe...

Flashback: Lola Ramona Dotted Shoes

I bought these lovely kicks at She She Shoes (now gone) back in March 2017 here - they were in the "last pairs" section and were marked down from the original $200 to $120. Like I was going to say no!
They are all leather, from the toes to the bows!

The sole is rubber stripes.
Aren't they amazing? I haven't seen any other shoes by this brand around.

I wore them right away, in March 2017 - this was an outfit that I loved, right from the get-go.
Hopefully, my chocolate-resisting efforts will allow me to get back into that gorgeous blue pencil skirt (it's Andres Courreges and not going anywhere!). Jacket Flashback here

I tend to let the shoes pull focus from whatever else I'm wearing, as here in April 2017.
They needed something more to balance them in this outfit. This was the one and only wearing of this silk dress.

I felt very "Disney Princess" in this yellow dress, in June 2017.
I often wear these shoes with yellow, for whatever reason. Maybe because I have a lot of yellow?

I love this fun ensemble that I wore to the September 2017 Vintage Expo.
I wore the entire outfit to work, including the hat which sat on my desk during the day. Kenzo jacket Flashback here

Deja vu! When I got this cute top in May 2018, I immediately paired it with my dotty shoes. Sadly, this was the only wearing of these shoes in 2018. I wonder why?
It's a match made in heaven...and we'll see it again shortly! Yellow skirt Flashback here

This was my first outfit of the spring/summer season in April 2019 - I loved the pattern mixing and accessories here.
So pretty! The gold chain over the tie is perfection. Flashback on the silk tie here

Trying to make a good outfit out of this silk top in June 2019.
I ended up letting the blouse go - it wasn't me. I kept the yellow leather skirt, though, and it's probably due for a Flashback.

Oh, here we are again with today's top - isn't this an awesome mix? This was in July 2019.
I love the black and white with the hot pink skirt (Flashback here).

I actually wore this Stella McCartney for Adidas jacket as outerwear with both of the outfits above that feature today's top.
This was an early "pandemic" dress-up outfit in April 2020. I put the dress in the giveaway pile, but pulled it out for another shot this season. I can't resist yellow dresses!

The return of the yellow skirt! This is from June 2020.
That blouse did not make the cut - I tossed it after only this single wearing. Not me, too fussy and wrong length.

Mathy stuff: Well, I definitely need to ensure I plan at least three more outfits out of these shoes this season, to work on the cost-per-wear. I'm only at 12 outfits, but that still comes to $10 each, which is good. I can do better, though!

Do you have a favourite? What would you wear with these dotty shoes?

I'm off now for my weekend, and am very much hoping we get the promised sunshine! I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure - thank you so much for dropping by!

    1. Thanks, Cielo. I liked the colour palate here.

I don't follow people until I get to know them a bit better. I left you a comment, and will now wait and see if you come back.

  2. I don't think you'll have much issues planning outfits with those shoes, they are absolutely gorgeous. The dot print is always classical and I love the design of the shoe. Plus, the materials sound perfect- all leather plus rubber soles. My favourite combination in a shoe.
Your celadon leather suit is gorgeous. I don't know why they say that leather is hot either. It blocks wind so it is perfect for transitional weather, but it is not too hot. Maybe it is not the material to wear when the temperatures are extremely high, but in a 'normal' warm weather, why not. Leather seems to me one of the best options for spring, when it's neither too warm or too cold. Speaking of names of the colours, isn't it interesting how different professions or fields sometimes use the names of the same colour differently. For example, interior designer and a fashion designer might think of different shades when using a certain term. The same way, celadon is a soft blueish-green in pottery, but in fashion it can refer to different shades. Anyhow, I do like this shade you're wearing.
As always I enjoyed the flashbacks. Have a fun weekend!

    1. They are actually really tricky to style, Ivana, as they are quite fussy with the pattern and bows - they can easily take over an outfit.

I love the suit, and it's not hot at all, and leather is wonderful in the wind.

Colour names are so funny and odd. Thanks!

    2. Yes, you have a point there. They are statement shoes even if they are black and white there is the pattern and the bow, so they can easily take over an outfit. You can always wear them with something longer if you don't want them to take over.

    3. Certain clothes/shoes can be really "bossy", I find - you have to carefully plan what to wear them with. Long skirts and pants don't work, as they get caught on the bows!

  3. Ah yes, that black & white top - it’s marvelous! The style, the shape, the way it fits you perfectly! My favorite outfits are the ones with this top and, for the shoes, any of the outfits with bold, deep color. The shoes demand an equal partner!

I admire many of the pencil skirt outfits on you and agree with your assessment of the June 2020 blouse.

Happy weekend! Spending mine painting and improving the interior of a front hall coat closet. The ceiling is super high and Fred quipped we could rent out the space. ;) Looking to maximize storage “up there” - likely a good spot for seasonal storage.

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie! I agree on how well the top goes with the shoes (they were made for each other!) and concur about the shoes being bossy - they are actually quite tricky to style.

Thank you! That sounds...interesting! That could be some great storage!

  4. Good afternoon Sheil, you always look good in suits and pencil skirts. The blouse is indeed a great partner for your dotty shoes. wow the outfit with the hot pink skirt classy yet funky. Now you've got me to wear red again but yellow hmm it suits you but I am not brave enough. Made an effort today must strart wearing all these sneaky ebay purchases. You are such an inspiration with your cost per wear idea. Have a sunny and enjoyable week-end. ~Shazx

    1. Hi, Shaz! Thank you so much - and yes, the top and shoes are a match made in fashion heaven. I love yellow, but if you aren't sure, then keep it away from your face (a skirt, or even a pair of shoes, or a purse!). Good for you - the best clothes are the ones we actually WEAR! :) Happy weekend!

  6. I tend to dress in uniform-same outfits week to week (well, when I dress in real clothes) and that shirt would get regular use in my wardrobe. Question about shoes. Do they get more than the one season, or do you completely put your fall and winter shoes away, and now only use spring summer?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I get that, Sam - it's much easier when you have regular "uniforms".

I addressed your question in the weekend post! :)

  7. I love your celadon suit! What a gorgeous shade of green. Those shoes are fantastic too. I think my favourites are the outfits with the yellow and the hot pink pencil skirts. The shoes and those skirts evoke a fabulous vintage vibe of the 40's

  8. Aww, isn't that suit delightful with its ruffle-hemmed skirt and ruffled cuffs? It looks absolutely amazing combined with black and white. I have to confess that I'd never heard of "celadon". I'm often having problems finding the right colour names, and in doubt I use this handy guide: digitalsynopsis.com/design/color-thesaurus-correct-names-of-shades/
I'd call this shade "chartreuse" but if it was "celadon" back in the 1990s, that's what we're going to call it :-)
Love the pops of pink from your outerwear, and yes to more ruffles and the Movie Star Wrap!
It's impossible to pick a favourite from your flashback, but if I have to, I'm going for the hot pink skirt one.
I hope your weekend is going well and you get that desired sunshine. Here, it's been raining all day :-( xxx

    1. I'd never heard of that colour either, Ann, before we had celadon sweaters at my old store. I'll check that link out, thank you!

I agree, it is very much a chartreuse, but I have used that word a lot for other clothes, which defeats my purpose in having a unique search term.

Thank you! I love bright pink with this celadon shade!

We're on our first day of true sun today/Monday - it's supposed to get hot this week! Woo!

  9. Your suit is a very flattering cut and the colour is gorgeous. The black and white sleeveless top is a classic and the polka dots are the perfect choice.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. We are in a province-wide lockdown again, but we've been blessed with a beautiful early spring. It's been hovering at the 20 degree mark for a couple of weeks and the trees are starting to sprout leaves (about 3 weeks early).

  12. That really is a beautiful suit, and whatever the colour is actually called, I like it. (it does have an "acid green" tint to it as another commenter mentioned)It works well paired with a black and white print. I was wondering what colour top you were going to wearwithit.

    1. It's more of an acid green than celadon, but "acid" is a trickier search term :). I probably won't be too adventurous with colours - or I'll split the suiting up next time, most likely.

  13. I've never heard of celadon before but I like it! I find opshop finds help me learn more colours, as I'll google and try find the best match, so I can have a unique name for often unlabelled pieces and make them easier to search for on the blog, haha! Without an art or fashion background I don't know as many colours as I should!

I love the suit on you, and that black and white top is lovely, I can see why you wore it so often with the fun polka dot shoes!

    1. Yes, that's exactly it, Mica! I need to be able to find this suiting again! I have an art background so I know a lot of colours, but there is always room to learn more!

  14. What a terrific suit and perfect colour to welcome the returning verdancy of spring. I interpret this hue as being chartreuse (or thereabouts), but no matter what one calls this punchy shade of green, it is all kinds of fabulous!!!
