Funky Friday: Vintage Maxi Skirt and Green Bookends

Back to work today - and now it's the weekend. Time just flies!

Funky Friday time! Of course I wanted to wear this maxi skirt right away, and I hadn't yet worn these shoes this season (how??), and look how well they bookend the turtleneck. It's a match made in fashion heaven.
I chatted more with people in the elevator today than I did with colleagues. I've started giving compliments to every person I see wearing colour. Maybe it will encourage people to dress up more? It certainly made the gent in the mustard yellow sweater happy.

  • Sweater - Tabi, thrifted; last worn here in December 2020 with my peacock coat
  • Skirt - Hooper, vintage 60s, thrifted; purchased here for $19.99
  • Shoes - Half Truth Tanya, Fluevog; last seen here in September 2020 (Flashback on them there)
  • Coat (below) - Danier, consignment; last worn here in November 2020

I'd misplaced this green cotton sweater, and tore apart my meticulously-folded sweater shelves - it had slipped down behind some others. Phew!
I considered wearing an orange sweater, but I really like how the green of the shoes and the sweater complement the bold pattern of the skirt. Bookends are such an easy way to make an outfit cohesive.

I have a dark orange vintage slip under this to smooth things out and provide a bit of warmth, and I also have nylons on.
All those layers! The lining of the skirt developed slight static issues over the day, but not of the irritating variety. The bottom button undid on me once, but otherwise it was awesome to wear.

I'll probably keep the skirt out for summer - I have a lot lime, orange, white and red in my warm season wardrobe.
Can't you imagine this unbuttoned more with sandals and bare legs? Ah, I can't wait!

Masked up - I really wanted an orange mask, but I don't have one that doesn't have spiders on it.
Hopefully, I won't still be matching masks to my outfits this time next year.

Outerwear - hooray, an opportunity to break out the spring leather! It's Leather Weather time!
I tied my Lanvin vintage scarf at my neck so you could read the name. I don't usually like any brand advertising showing on my clothes, but I make an exception for the Klassy Designers.

Fingerless gloves in red - it's still very chilly in the mornings.
I didn't need them on the lovely walk home with the sun on my face! Yay, sun!

Outerwear stuff:
I'm looking forward to swapping my accessories as well as my clothes over - it's happening soon.

  • Scarf - Lanvin, vintage 70s, consignment
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
A casualty of me not wearing three instead of five outfits a week to work, these shoes have been neglected this season. I'm sorry, shoes, I still love you!

Matchy bling:
I liked that Mom's belt matched the era of the skirt.

  • Belt - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Necklace - Banana Republic, consignment
  • Brutalist brass ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Gold bracelet - thrifted, Sidney
  • Bangle - thrifted

My colleague in Edmonton, Monica, loved my Jell-O Shot Necklace - she spotted it on our Teams call.

Well, my friends, I'm off to enjoy a quiet weekend with my guys. I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure. Be kind, be calm and stay safe! Thanks so much for stopping by.

  2. Love, love, love, this outfit! It is bright, cheery, and full of pizzaz. Adore dark jewel tone green, I have a few dark green sweaters and wear them quite a bit. I have to say though I'm envious of your shoes and orange jacket.

  4. I really like the green with this skirt Sheila! It looks so good on you! And yey for giving those shoes another wear - it's hard with us working so little to let our usual staples get some love! I was so excited to go back into the office one day last week but there has been an outbreak here - now up to 2 cases which is scary for us after being on zero for so long - so I think it will be a while before I will be back in the office again sadly. Just when I was starting to plan out and get excited about officewear again!

    1. Aw, thanks, Mica! I do miss getting to wear some of my party clothes, but I really like to wear a lot of my clothes at least 2-3 times per season, and I've really missed that.

That would be really scary, to have more cases, when you've been clear so long! It'll happen soon enough that you go back!

  6. As I am off this week, I thought a good time on one of the days my daughter is things, to spend an afternoon in my closet. I decided to take a plunge and bought two belts to challenge myself to make some of my old clothes feel newly styled. In Three and 1/2 months I'll slowly rejoin the outside world and I should look like I am supposed to be there, right? I'll use your blog as inspiration.

  8. That skirt is seriously swoon-worthy and looks even more so when you're wearing it. I think that bottle green was the perfect choice to bookend it with. And yay for leather weather. I hope it'll soon be warm enough here for me to wear the twin of your orange leather jacket. The Jell-O Shot Necklace is one of my favourites too. I'm glad you only had a very short working week to get into the rhythm again.
We're back in a sort of lockdown here as from today, and instead of going back to full time in April, I'll continue to do three days next month. That'll give me time to sort out the garden plus do my seasonal changeover at ease. xxx

    1. It totally made me think of you, Ann! I know you would have snatched it up too! Thank you so much - we can be twins soon in our orange leather! I love the necklace - I've sure gotten good wear out of it for my $5 spent.

Oh no! That really sucks, my dear. Hang in there. I'm glad you'll get a small reprieve to do your Really Important things, though! :)

  9. I'm a huge fan of "bookending" an outfit (or craft project w/multiple colours), too. I would also be hunting high and low if I had a fab green turtleneck sweater like that and it went MIA. What a classic beaut it is! Three big cheers on it not being lost for good - especially since that hue looks stunning on you, my friend.

Big hugs & the cheeriest of wishes for March's final weekend!

    1. Bookending is such an easy way to make an outfit come together, Autumn, and I can see how it would be a handy tool when crafting your paper cards/scenes too. Thank you so much!

      Hugs to you!
