Today was just a bad luck day, outfit and blog-wise. I accidentally deleted all the pictures I took this morning (all 11 of them!), which meant I had to put it all back on, do all the poses again. And to tell you the truth, I didn't like this outfit, and I considered just not posting it (the allure of not putting my "good" bra back on was strong!).
But today is the start of my long weekend, and I'm going slap a smile on it, dagnabbit, and redo the freaking pictures. The outfit will not be lost.
It's...the last winter outfit and...
...it's just okay. But I'm a big believer in owning it and moving on. If you don't try, you don't learn - and we learn and grow from failure. So, deep breath, let it go, Sheila.- Jacket - Pierre Balmain, vintage 90s, thrifted; first worn here in November 2019 with Gaultier Jeans
- Sparkly tee - Ted Baker, consignment; last seen here in February, layered under emerald satin
- Tulle skirt - Trina Turk, consignment; last worn here earlier this month for a Glam photoshoot at the Castle with Mom
- Boots - Teleport; last seen here (2nd outfit) in January for a Saturday Zoom call with velvet
- "Loomed Lady" coat (below) - vintage 60s, thrifted; first worn here in January for brunch
My goal was that I wanted to get a second wearing in of this vintage 90s Balmain topper. It's a difficult piece to style, but I thought it would work with the tulle skirt.
I put a sparkly navy tee under it, and did up the two slide-hooks near the waist.
I added my new dark red tights but they didn't match as well in pictures as they did in person.

Such a weird top/jacket thing. Nothing wrong with the skirt or boots or t-shirt, though.
I'm putting the Balmain in the giveaway. It's not working and it isn't great on me and I'm not feeling it. Buh-bye!

Outerwear stuff:
I didn't really feel the gloves either - they bagged out as I wore them, so they're also going in the giveaway. Sorry, Betsey!

- Gloves - Betsey Johnson, thrifted
- Mask - by Mom
- Silk scarf - L's, thrifted
Missing bling:
Where is the other earring? I have no idea! I lost it somewhere between home and work this morning. I'm hoping Vizzini finds it (he's good at discovering my lost jewelry).

- Earrings - Dots, first wearing(!)
- Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
- Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
Yup, lost one of the earrings on its very first wearing. It was a DAY, I tell ya!
Speaking of earrings! On a fun and positive note, I'm sharing a post from Big Earrings. As you know, all links in my posts are 'cause I love - I do not do any affiliate links or advertise on my blog (I regularly turn it down/delete those emails). However, Sharon seemed legit (and was very nice), and her only request was for me to share the post she was writing about me. She's an entrepreneur who started up her site based on her love of...big earrings, mostly second-hand ones. Well, I LOVE big earrings and second-hand/pre-loved is the way to go! How could I say no? Please feel free to check her out here, and enjoy her recommendations for big earrings to go with some of my past outfits here. I love that she selected mostly outfits that I had already paired bigass earrings with! She knows her audience!
And now, my friends, with Friday being a stat holiday, and tomorrow my regular "off" day, it's now my long weekend, woo hoo! I'll be doing my closet swap-over tomorrow, and we have a few Easter things on the menu (but are being very careful with all gatherings), so the weekend post(s) will be nice and juicy with loads of pictures.
To whet your whistle, enjoy my last closet swap-over post here in October 2020 - this pic is one of the "Afters" from it:
Happy Easter, happy long weekend and happy spring, my friends!
I can't believe it is closet swap time again! Where did the time go?
ReplyDeleteSome days you just can't win for trying. Sorry you didn't like your outfit and had to don it twice - highly unfair. Personally I think it's quite smart if that is any consolation.
I hope you have a wonderful long weekend and a very Happy Easter.
I know, it just feels like yesterday, Nana!
DeleteIt just kept compounding! It wasn't that bad...until I deleted the photos! Maybe I would have liked the outfit better if I hadn't had to put it on again? Thanks, my dear.
Happy weekend and Easter to you, Nana!
Thank you for all your effort and hope you find your earring. Did think all the pieces in your outfit were classics even if not together. The coat is beyond spectacular and look smashing with the boots. Love the link as earrings are my most fave accessory. Enjoy your long weekend and Feliz Pascuas!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, Chalotalo! I like all the pieces too, but they just didn't gel. I love the coat the most! Glad you found the link useful. :)
DeleteHappy Weekend, and Feliz Pascuas to you!
Too bad you had to reshoot all of it but kudos to you for redoing it. Those silver boots are love!

Thanks, Lovely - I was sorely tempted to just say "screw it!" I love the boots too.
DeleteWell done on your dedication to redo your deleted photos, it must have tried your patience when you weren't over enamoured with both the mitts and the jacket. Great to see the Loomed Lady gain though, she's fabulous.
ReplyDeleteDo we need to have a word with Vizzini? Could he be the earring thief?
Have fun with the wardrobe reshuffle! xxx
I was so tempted to say "f*ck it", Vix! But...I'm glad I did. I have never skipped an outfit here since I started blogging!
DeleteI did love wearing the Loomed Lady again, though.
No, but he is the Finder of Lost Things! I'm hopeful that either he or the cleaners will find it, but no luck so far.
Thank you!
Having trouble commenting and also been mia for awhile just testing Shazxx
ReplyDeleteShaz, you're back! Sorry to hear about the comment issues!
DeleteYea!!! it worked I have been away from blogland for awhile (Painting/diy job) taking up all my time but also the other day I could not comment so anyway HI SHEILA! wow so many many fantastic outfits from the last posts! Hey admire your attitude - own it and let it go wish I was better at that . Love the loomed lady. Sorry to see your Plutos is moving. Sheila when I have been a good girl and got more work done your blog will be my reward. Your work is appreciated Shazxx
ReplyDeleteYay! Hi Shaz! I missed you! I'm glad you're working on a DIY - those can be so satisfying! Thanks for commenting and for the catch-up. Take care, my dear!
DeleteOh no! I'm glad you could retake the photos! I had a horrible moment the other week where instead of copying photos across to my computer I thought I'd copied them off the camera already and just deleted them instead! Luckily I take a few photos each day (mostly to make sure no kids in the background!) so I still had something to post as my computer didn't delete them in the order I took them, phew. Not sure I would have had the energy to recreate 3 outfits otherwise, haha!
ReplyDeleteI always love your wardrobe swap over posts Sheila, I'll look forward to that :)
I am too, Mica, but oh, I did not want to do it! I really debated (gah, do I have to put my bra back on??), but I'm glad I did. And I see I'm not the only one! Oh, the trials of blogging, eh? :)
DeleteThanks, Mica!
You're very dedicated in recreating your outfit and redo the accidentally deleted photos, especially as you weren't feeling the outfit! And even more so as you had to put your good bra back on :-) I know all about that, as I change out of my "good bra" too once I'm back home. I'm hearing you on the Pierre Balmain jacket. In the giveaway pile it goes - I'm sure it won't be a "regret-me-not"! Of course, everything is redeemed by the glorious Loomed Lady!
ReplyDeleteYour closet looks so neat and super organized. It must be wonderful having it all in one place. Hope your changeover went/goes well. Can't wait to hear all about it! xxx
I really did not want to do it, Ann! Ugh, putting my bra back on was the worst, ha ha! Yeah, I am just not feeling it. Hard to pass up a "name" like that, but it's better to move it along. The coat totally does redeem the outfit, I agree!
DeleteWell, it's mostly organized - I do love it when it's freshly done!
I'm so glad I don't have to do a swap over, lol. Good luck with it and enjoy your weekend. I love that skirt btw, and the coat. What a pity about the earring.
ReplyDeleteIf I had more closet space, I'd love to have all my clothes out all the time, Nancy, but I've expanded to the point where I have to do this now.
DeleteThank you! I know, sad about the earring, but ah well.
Definitely worth the extra effort, Sheila. Enjoy your well deserved long weekend.

Thanks, Rena! Same to you!
DeleteI can't believe it's time to swap over already? Where has the time gone? I'm unlikely to do mine before the end of April; so your winters maybe colder than ours but your Spring is warmer...
ReplyDeleteThe Balmain jacket is lovely but I can see what you mean about it being difficult to to style. I would have been tempted to wear it with something with a big, bold pattern. Still if you're not feeling it - off it goes! The silver boots are delicious.
I hope you have a lovely long weekend break but I know what hard work swapping your closet over is so I hope you get to rest up as well.
Shame about the earring.
xxx
I know, Vronni, doesn't it seem like it was just a month or so ago when I did the last swap-over?? We have really distinct seasons here, so winter is cold/rainy, spring is warmer/rainy/sunny, summer is warm/sunny, and fall is colder/rainy.
DeleteYeah, the jacket is just too difficult. If I have to work that hard to style it, then why bother keeping it? I like the idea of a big bold pattern, but I don't have much in those darker red/blue/black colours. I love the boots.
Thank you so much! It went smoothly (as you saw). :)
I hate those "this outfit isn't making me feel as fabulous as it should" days. Those space boots are AMAZING though! You definitely get kudos for retaking those pictures, I think I'd be too tempted to just say f---- it, haha. I'm in for a long weekend myself, I hope yours is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteUgh, they suck, Ashley! I do adore the boots and kept them out for spring, as they are too cool to pack away. Thank you - I really didn't want to put it all back on! I hope you had a wonderful long weekend!
DeleteYaasss! That is a mindset/philosophy that I strive mightily hard to embrace and put into practise as well (very much including on the crafting front). Not everything can be - nor does it need to be - an absolute winner. Mehs and "just okays" help to make those look (or other things) we truly love and are super happy about all the sweeter and more enjoyable.

It aggravates me when aspiring fashionistas complain that they "won't look as stylish as me" (I do get this sometimes, in real life and on the blog), because I have been TRYING and sometimes succeeding and sometimes failing for decades! You have to keep on trying!
DeleteThanks so much, my dear!
The silver boots are so good with this outfit. Well, they are always good, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteGreetje
They are the best part, along with the skirt, Greetje! I love them.
DeleteMarvellous outfit! I do love the boots- they are so spacy!!! x
ReplyDeleteThe boots and the skirt are the best part. Thanks, Kezzie!
