I was inspired by my purchase of another teal dress yesterday, to wear my vintage one today.
- Sweater - Judith & Charles, consignment; last worn here in January with Etro
- Suede dress - Bagatelle, vintage 80s, thrifted; first seen here exactly a year ago in March 2020 with ruffles
- Boots - Spring Step by L'Artiste; last worn here in February with an orange dress and gold claws
- Coat (below) - Desigual; last seen here in December 2020
This one is suede and is from the 80s (pre-Great Size Shift). It's a very thick pigskin suede.
Back in my nightclub days, I would have worn this with just a bra under it and sky-high heels, which I would have kicked off to the side of the dance floor so that I could groove in a group with my girlfriends. Not so much these days! I layered a wool sweater under it, and fleece-lined tights.
I thought I might be cold in the office (and I was!), so I wore this thick coat as my outerwear.
Masked up - I looked like this for most of the day, but I didn't see very many people.
Outerwear - on the spur of the moment, I tossed on this vintage 80s pillbox hat.
I got this as a present from Mom & Dad one Christmas, probably around 1984.

According to this post here from May 2010, it had a matching scarf and it was from Fairweather.
A rear view of my coat, because it's so freaking awesome.

Outerwear stuff:
I was chilly on the way to work in the morning - the gloves and silk scarf were very welcome.

- Hat - Fairweather, gift from Mom & Dad, homegrown vintage 80s

The stuff:
This is likely the last wearing of these brocade boots - I was very pleased with how well they went with the teal suede dress.

And now, off to enjoy some down-time!
This is such a spectacular look. I just love how the brocade, embroidery, textures, and colors make this outfit perfection. Have a great vacay!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you, Chalotalo! It rung all my bells too. Thanks - only one work day to go and I'll be off!
DeleteDitto Chalotalo’s comment. Love, love, love the outfit, the coat, the entire ensemble, and it suits you well! Question...I am perplexed by what looks like a copper rectangular box to which the solid copper necklace appears to be attached. What is it?
ReplyDeleteHere’s to your week vacation!
Thanks so much, Laurie! Oh, that's the copper and enamel cuff - it's standing on its side in the centre of the necklace.
DeleteOne more day of work to go!
Such wonderful textures.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great vacation.
I just booked a few days away in June when we can get out again. X
Thanks, Jane! I'm looking forward to a fun time hanging out with L for our anniversary. We still can't travel, so we're having a vacation at home.
DeleteHello, twin!
ReplyDeleteA vision in teal today, Sheila! Ahhh, those nights out with the vertigo-inducing heels and huge expanses of bare flesh and I never ever had a hangover.
Hope today whizzes by and you can enjoy a chilled-out week off. xxx
Hello, Vix! Thank you, my dear. Oh, I had the hangovers - I've always been a lightweight when it comes to booze.
DeleteToday's a home day, then work tomorrow...I'm champing at the bit!
I love your Gran's copper cuff, and the brocade boots, both so unique. Teal really suits you. Lise
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Lise - that's the cuff (and matching necklace and earrings) that started it all - my collection, I mean.
DeleteWhat a tactilely and visually incredible outfit! Those gorgeous boots are worthy of starring in a museum or gallery show unto themselves.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a truly wonderful vacation, dear Sheila. May it be relaxing, fun, low-stress, and filled with early spring sunshine.
Autumn Zenith Witchcrafted Life
Thank you so much, Autumn - and I was stroking my dress most of the day (I love the feel of suede). The boots are fabulous - so much everything!
DeleteThanks, hon, but one day to go! I hope we have good weather.
The teal dress looks so good with the boots and I like how you layered it up, it looks great on you! :) exciting you have some holiday time coming up soon! Are you able to travel or will you just be staying home and relaxing?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mica! I love slip dresses with layers - it's just always a look I've liked for its versatility. We are still not permitted to travel, so L and I will be staying local but doing our typical vacation stuff (shopping, eating out, walking around).
DeleteEnjoy your time off! Maybe you'll find new additions to your wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sam - one day to go still! Heh heh, it's like you know me! L and I will definitely be doing some shopping!
DeleteMorning Sheila, I must get me some turquoise jewelery! I have blue but nothing stunning like your collection. I Love the colour of the slip dress beautiful You look great in slip dresses. the coat and the boots are works of art! Have a great week off Shazxx
ReplyDeleteThe only piece of turquoise is in the ring, Shaz - I think the necklace is plastic, and the earrings and cuff are both enameled - but I love the colours of turquoise and copper together so much. Thank you! I felt covered in wonderful things.
DeleteI will! One day to go!
I'm glad your dress got an annual outing. It looks very chic and the boots are fabulous with it. That coat IS freaking awesome and how well the coat and boots go together.
ReplyDeleteI loved your copper and turquoise jewellery; it's a wonderful combination but not one I've seen before.
xxx
Same here, Vronni - I've been missing some of my favourite clothes due to not working as much. I'm happy to get another wearing out of the coat and boots - what a happy thing that they go together so well!
DeleteThank you - it's my favourite combination for sure. It's fairly rare - there isn't a lot of it that I see.
How exciting that you've got a week's vacation! I still have so much outstanding vacation from last year, so I told my boss I'll be taking Fridays off once we start working full time again, which is, gulp, next month! He doesn't know yet that I'll be officially working only 4 days after that.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing outfit you've got for us today - or is it yesterday? How fabulous is that teal suede dress? Those brocade boots always make my heart beat faster. But why is it their last wear? Surely you mean this season?
Your Desigual coat is a delight, and how cute is that pillbox hat? And last but not least, your copper and turquoise bling is absolutely stunning.
Enjoy your well-deserved down time Sheila xxx
I'm excited, Ann! It's my first span of vacation since Christmas! I've been accumulating vacation time as well - fortunately, I will still have several months of my weird schedule. Although nothing's been announced, I think it will be Aug/Sept until we bring everyone back into the office. Next month feels way too soon, but I'm glad you'll be doing 4 days a week.
DeleteYesterday/Monday! :) Yes, sorry, I do mean last wearing this season - they are too warm to wear in the spring/summer. I do love them!
Thank you so much, my dear! I have one more outfit and then we'll be off! Woo!
Awesome outfit!! Love the dress, boots, coat and everything about it! I totally remember wearing those kind of dresses. They were shorter too. I used to wear mine with my combat boots that I got at Payless shoes. They were cheap, but I still have and wear them. I can't believe they haven't fallen apart by now. I love the 80's! Have a fantastic week off!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Cheryene! Oh yes, they used to be short-short, didn't they? I never owned combat boots, but I remember them being a thing in the early 90s when grunge hit. That's awesome that you still have them! Thanks!
DeleteWhat a beautiful teal dress! I love how you layered it under a sweater. The brocade boots are gorgeous. Nice to see them again. I like your face mask as well- very matching. The coat is marvellous.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ivana - I love layering slip dresses like this with tees, sweaters and thin tops. It makes them so much more versatile! I adore these boots, and I'm glad to sneak in another wearing of them. Thank you!
DeleteA week's vacation?! Good for you. BTW, Megan made some clever robe-photos which I'm going to post on my blog in a few days (along with your approach).
ReplyDeleteI know, a whole week! It feels so decadent! Ooh, how awesome, I'm excited to see what she did! Please feel free to grab pics from my post if you want, hon.
DeleteOMG -- that outfit is SPECTACULAR!!!! Those boots! That coat! the hat!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cynthia!
Deletewoww, I love this outfit so much!. Teal is one of my favourite colours and I'm loving your copper jewellery, but these boots and the magnificent coat are particularly fabulous together!. You Rock It!
ReplyDeletebesos
Thank you, Monica! It's an amazing coat, for sure. I can't believe I haven't paired it with the boots before now!
DeleteThose boots are amazing. They go so well with that coat.
ReplyDeleteTotally! Thanks, Mim!
DeleteThat is such a fantastic dress! The colour is beautiful and it goes with those marvelous boots so well. The only way I could wear a suede or leather dress is if I could layer another top underneath, otherwise the cleaning bills would be massive.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Shelley! It really is more on the teal side (hard to tell in pics). Ha, yes, I hear that! I have never cleaned any of my suede or leather dresses.
DeleteA few months ago I came across some Renoir items and thought "Sheila would like these". I was going to keep them but decided to sell them, if I kept everything I liked I would be in trouble :)
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of them out there - they were very popular in their time - but I also don't buy every piece I see. I have to be really fussy or my closet (and jewelry box!) would be overflowing!
