Casual Friday: Caped and Cocooned

Friday at last! This has been a rough week, and I'm so looking forward to the weekend!

For the office today, I did a fairly casual look for me. All neutrals! Shocking!
A cape and linen trousers. Why not?

  • Blouse - Lord & Taylor, consignment; last worn here in November 2019 with a leopard mini
  • Trousers - Lina Kraun, thrifted; purchased here for $22.95
  • Shoes - Irregular Choice Star Wars Collection, "I Know", gift from Louise; last seen here in February
  • Coat (below) - Joseph Ribkoff, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) in September 2019 for theatre with Mom

This is the first time I've worn this cape-top with the top part of it tucked in - I wanted to show off the high waist of the trousers.
It's a lovely top - very fun to swoosh about in. I always feel like a superhero when I wear it.

The putty-coloured trousers are 100% linen and very soft. Neutral linen trousers are not usually my thing, but I am always game to try something new. The worst thing that can happen is that I don't like them!
I'm not usually a fan of matching tie-belts but just rolled with the more casual vibe that linen brings to an outfit.
The pants themselves are excellent, with nice deep pockets. They did get much wrinklier over the day.

Outerwear - I layered my cocoon coat over it all for sun coverage (it was over 20 degrees today!) and visual interest.
I love this pattern - it's shiny with the gold lame (lah-MAY, darling!).
Add some pockets and I'm all cocooned up.

The stuff:
I've worn these shoes for Star Wars Day before - at least I'm on the same week this year. That's a win. I love the floral background and the little red hearts.

Blue bling:
In addition to the new-to-me trousers, I also wore my new ear-balls today.

  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Crystal cuff - Swarovski, consignment, gift from L
  • Ear-balls - Swarovski, consignment; purchased here for $47.99
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

When I spotted these, I knew they would match this cuff that L bought for me a few years ago.
Same shape! I also noticed that a couple of the "spikes" on the front of the earrings have more crystals in them.

Warning: Ear pictures!

I took a couple of close-ups of them on so you can see how these ear-balls work. The ball part goes on the back of the lobe.
I have 4 holes in this ear: a pearl/steel stud, a diamond/white gold stud, a silver Indian hoop (L wears the other one), and then my main hole for my daily earrings.

I wear one of Mom's pearls in the second hole.
Still a bit hard to see the pearl backing there. These had a nice weight - not too heavy. I like these as a different kind of ornamentation for my head.

Vizzini's ornamentation are his massive whiskers. That's a fine moustachio you have there, sir!
"Thank you, I grew them myself."

Vizzini, where did your feet go?
"They are in Loaf position."

Soaking up the sun is where I want to be!

Enjoy your weekend, my friends. Be safe and be well. I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure!

  1. Is it just me or does this look not scream "Audrey Hepburn"? Tres Chic!!! The ear jewellery is delightful, but ouch! Didn't all those piercings hurt?

Vizzini hopefully has a radio because there's nothing in the world you know, than lying in the sun ...

You enjoy your weekend as well and try not to get into too much trouble, lol!

    1. Does it? Thank you - that's high praise! Oh yes, all piercing hurt at first (all the tattoos hurt too), but that's part and parcel of it. Ha, Vizzini gets lots of music in our house!

      Thank you! You too!

  2. They are beautiful earrings! It's funny my sister just got her ears pierced with my mum at the start of the year, before all the virus changes, so when I caught up with her today I was advising her how to care for them. I had some troubles even though I just have the two piercings, I wouldn't go back for more, you are braver than I, haha! I like these neutrals on you too - while they are neutral they are definitely not boring pieces!

    1. I haven't had any problems with my piercings in years, but I did have some issues with the top holes and the upper one when I first had them done. I tend to just leave the same earrings in all the time, only changing the "main" holes.

      Thank you, Mica!

  3. I love those new to you trousers. The cape blouse you paired them with is very pretty. Wonderful coat as well. The Star Wars shoes are gorgeous. I love the floral background and the princess Leila and Han are fab too.

  4. Fairly neutral for you it might be, but all has been forgiven by the wearing of that absolutely fabulous cape-top! The gold lah-MAY infused coat is pretty fabulous too, as are those Swarovski ear balls! Who needs ornaments when one has such a fine pair of whiskers, eh? Sorry to hear you've had a bit of a rough week. I do hope the weekend treats you well! xxx

    1. I was trying to work up more enthusiasm this week for dressing, but just was not feeling it. Thank you so much, Ann! Weekends certainly help.

  5. Like you, I am not much neutral gal, but I really like this office casual office-wear outfit you created. The cape-top looks nice, but is a hoot all at the same time. I can see feeling like a super-hero in it. LOL! What fun! Very cool shoes!

I adore the photos of your kitty! He is such a handsome boy.

    1. I am tempted to get a few more piercings in my ears (apparently I have beautiful ears, according to Greetje, lol), when those kinds of services come back. Happy weekend, Nancy!

  7. Love the cape top and shoes. Very wise (in my opinion of course) to let them shine by keeping the bit in the middle more neutral. You have very beautiful ears and earlobes. I an very envious. I only had one hole and had to have is sewn up again by the plastic surgeon as it was long and deep and ugly. Now I am already waiting for 6 months after the "operation" for a new hole to be made. And my earlobes aren't that nice anymore. Nothing to do with the operation but everything to do with old age...

    1. Thanks so much, Greetje! I know you had that done - hearing about that makes me glad I didn't overdo heavy earrings, which I've never liked.

    2. I never wore heavy earrings either. Just bad earlobes haha.

    3. I have big earlobes, and watched my grandmother's earlobes stretch out, and vowed I would not have that happen to me!

  8. No outfit that fabulous could ever be described as neutral! That cape top is one of my favourite garments of yours and the coat looks so good.
Love the close-up of your piercings, they're so pretty and I do like that you and L shared that pair of Nepali hoops. Vizzini's adornments are adorable, Stephen's got enormous whiskers, too!
Hope you've had a wonderful weekend, Sheila. xxx

    1. You are too kind, Vix, thank you! L and I have been wearing these shared earrings for about 20 years! Nice that our furry gents are so dapper.

      Right back at you, Vix!

  9. That outfit is more subdued than you usually wear, but it looks nice on you, and is very chic. I love the idea of a sweater and cape all in one.

    1. Thanks, Shelley! I`m not sure how long I`ll keep the linen trousers - they are a rather blah colour. I wish that was a sweater! It's just a polyester blouse.

  10. I get what you mean about this understated look, but once you topped it with the beautiful cocoon coat it really sings. I fall in and out of love often with linen trousers. I like to see them on other people, but on me I'm not so sure... x

  12. The super Sheila top with its cape is very cool, looks great tucked in. Did you run in it? and see it move behind you?

    1. No, but it does billow behind me! I love showing it off, and really missed my office audience.
