Weekend Wrap-Up: Second Chances: Friday Blue; Neutral Satin and Silver

Hello, my friends! It's been a lovely weekend - very quiet, which is as to be expected. I have a special treat for you on Monday but I do have outfits to share from the past couple of days, so let's get 'er started.

This is what I wore to work on Friday: my recently regret-me-not blue dress.
I was so glad I'd rescued it the other day - it was lovely to wear. Such a pretty bright blue!

  • Dress - Nanette Lepore, thrifted, Vancouver; last worn here in May 2019 with silver and sandals
  • Shoes - Prepare Guide, Fluevog; last seen here in September 2019
  • Wool biker jacket (below) - Gap, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here  in April

I actually got every one of these main pieces (dress, shoes, jacket) in Vancouver over several years. I used to buy all my Fluevogs there before we had a store here in Victoria. Aw, I miss Vancouver and seeing all my friends there!
I paid $26.00 for this dress in a thrift store a couple of years ago with Melanie of A Bag and a Beret (IG here), and have worn it 5 times now. It's made in the USA - similar dresses by this brand run $140-$400, so I'm doing very well with my cost-per-wear.
I love a simple dress that can be made different by changing the accessories up. I've now done turquoise, silver/black, white/gold, pink/gold, and yellow with this. What other colours would work with this, do you think? Orange is on the list!
I was reminded as I wore it throughout my work-day that the front slit is HIGH and requires some wrangling when I sit or it becomes crotch-tastic.
I got a little chilled in the office after a few hours, so I wore my PANK wool moto jacket for the rest of the day, thusly.
Isn't this fabulous? Such a great colour.
I've worn it 8 times in a year, since I bought it last March 2019 in Vancouver for $22.49 - again, very good cost-per-wear. It is a lovely wool, lined in pink satin and has pockets which zip up.
An extra scarf for warmth/mouth coverage and visual interest.

  • Scarf - thrifted

The stuff:
I lost track of my wears at some point in 2013, but I've had these shoes since our anniversary trip to Vancouver in 2012 (here), and have worn them over 40 times that I could count. Considering they were over $300, I'm doing exceedingly well on getting my money's worth on these. Who knew a turquoise shoe would be such a staple! Fluevog has stopped producing them in this colour, but they still make them in black for $339.00.

Blue bling:
I thrifted that cuff last year for a few dollars, and it's been a good purchase - it goes well with my other blue accessories.

  • Belt - Bronsino, local; gift from L
  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Silver/Venetian glass earrings - local
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

As I was getting ready to leave for work, I did a quick search for Vizzini, and found him in a new spot.
"Didn't you create this throne for me?"

I moved a pillow underneath the throw, so that the chair is more comfortable to sit in. I guess it worked!

After a late evening of board games, I gave my hair a colour refresh on Saturday morning while I made breakfast. Don't worry, it's a temporary colour: this will fade out to a lighter version of this shade - the brand is Pulp Riot, and it's 100% vegan, ammonia- and cruelty-free! Recommended if you feel like jazzing your hair up with no commitment - it fades out after about 15 washes on me.
Ready to Zoom with our friends! The thin sweater I'm wearing and these rescued satin joggers were worn for our Official Shenanigans (TM) photo shoot - make sure you drop by on Monday!

  • Cardigan - Jean Paul Gaultier Soleil, consignment; first seen here in August 2019 with an optic top and cords
  • Sweater - Sonia Rykiel, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) with my gory picador vintage skirt in March
  • Joggers - Lady Dutch, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) in July 2019 with a vintage maxi-vest for Ross' 50th birthday
  • Shoes - Seychelles, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) for a thrift shopping trip with Christina in September 2019

Since I had the joggers and sweater on already, I just poked around in my closet to see what would be comfy and fun to wear with them for the day while I worked on posts, made dinner and was presentable on camera.
I love this fine mesh optic printed cardigan - note the big mesh cuffs on the sleeves.
It's light as a feather. It does a number on my eyeballs too - such a cool pattern.

I'm very happy that I pulled these pants out of the giveaway pile. They are a regret-me-not, and like the dress, keepers.
These joggers have a matte-finish fabric insert down the sides, and pockets. They do up with the draw-string at the elastic waist, and they are way too big so I wear them lower on my hips.
I like this relaxed look and the colour of them - I think they are supposed to be a khaki green, but they read as a complete neutral to me.

Shoes:
These are leather and are soft and squishy. I thrifted them for under $20.00 a couple of years ago, and they are great in the spring summer. The metal studs and the silver ankle strap are a nice detail. They buckle up on the sides.

Silver bling:
Didn't feel like taking them all off, just to put them back on.

  • Necklace - Dots
  • Earrings - Glee, local

Rings:
  • Silver/onyx - Tocarra, vintage fair
  • Silver/crystal - Soul Flower

Cuffs:
  • Steel cuff - thrifted
  • Silver dragon bangle - local
  • Silver hinged cuff - thrifted, Powell River
  • Filigree cuff - St. Paul's Cathedral gift shop, London, England
  • Studded acrylic cuff - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver

Vizzini, anything to add?
"No, you've bothered me enough."

I found him hiding in his house on Saturday morning.
"Always with the pictures..."

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Thanks so much for coming by!

  2. The blue dress with turquoise is fantastic. Turquoise is one of my favorites. And the shocking pink moto jacket is fabulous! I think orange paired with the dress would be an awesome combo.

    Your pink hair is awesome!

    1. Thanks, Michelle! I love blue and turquoise together as well.

Much appreciated! I know my hairdresser gives me the side-eye for doing my own colouring, but I can't handle the cost/time of having it done professionally (especially not now!).

  3. So glad the blue dress is a forget-me-not! Perfectly accessorized with turquoise - can't help smiling every time I see those fabulous shoes! - and the pop of pink from your jacket. Not surprised Vizzini nabbed that chair, as Phoebe would have done. And look at his face, as if butter wouldn't melt! Love the bright pink hair, which contrasts wonderfully with your neutral/monochrome outfit. The optic printed cardigan is amazing! As is the pendant! xxx

    1. Me too, Ann! I know, I adore the shoes - they are so comfy too. Vizzini nabs all the chairs, we may as well just admit it! I can imagine Ms. Phoebe staring imperiously from it!

Thank you - I'm happier when I have more colour in my hair. I love this cardi too, thanks!

  4. That's a gorgeous combination, the light blue on that cobalt dress. Yes try orange, I wore those colors last week on the blog and liked it a lot. Love your hair too. Have a good start of the week!

    1. Thanks, Nancy! I'll do orange at some point, likely when I've had a go at fixing my orange shoes (still not done). Thank you - I love having pink hair!

  5. Isn't it funny how some things need to be set aside to appreciate in value? A book re-read often gives a new perspective; leftovers deepen in flavour and clothing is re-imagined. The blue dress is such a classic I don't believe it will ever not be stylish.

I love the black/white/grey combination, the jacket is positively psychedelic! Great lipstick colour by the way.

What a little sultan Vizzini is!

We are having a wonderful Sunday sitting outside in the sun after a very rainy, cool Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Everything is greening up and the leaves are finally making an appearance, so all is right in my world today.

Looking forward to see what shenanigans you got up to!

    Keep well.

    1. Yes, that's how it goes sometimes, isn't it, Nana? That's part of why I like "resting" some of my clothes for a season - it makes me really appreciate them (or not!) when I unpack them again. A blue dress (like a red dress) is always on the "upgrade" list. This is the best blue dress I've ever found, but I'd love to find one with a not-so-high slit, and pockets (of course).

Thank you - I love the optic cardi! The lipstick is "Disobedient" by MAC (it's a glittery purple).

Vizzini is such a sultan - we call him "pasha" sometimes when he's sitting like that.

Oh, I'm so glad spring is finally there! How wonderful for you to sit outside and get some sun!

I hope you enjoy them! We had a hoot doing that shoot. :)

  7. Nah, the blue dress looks horrible, so you can send it onto me! ;-)
Seriously, I love how you styled it with the pale blue- really nice combo and I'd like to see all the different combinations of it in one post- why not do a remix post showing all the different ways you have already worn it plus a few new permeatations- that would be fun to see!x

  9. Both outfits are super. The dress is elegant but with those shoes made modern. The light blue belt with the dress is a good choice. So glad you pulled both the dress and the jogging pants (stellar pants) out of the give-away pile. Especially the trousers... never throw them out. Such a comfy yet stylish outfit. The fact that you can add a pop of colour with your hair is very handy.

    1. Thank you so much, Greetje! I like to make my second-hand purchases look modern by adding funky shoes - it makes a huge difference to the styling, for sure.

I know, the trousers are awesome. I don't really know why I passed on them before! They're fully washable too!

Thank you! I like having colour in my hair.

  10. That blue dress is beautiful on you and I really like the turquoise with it! I like red and blue too, and purple and blue, green is good to! I'm always a bit more adventurous with my colour pairings if I'm wearing something blue - I find it goes with so much, especially such a great shade as this dress! :)

    1. Thanks so much, Mica! Yes, I would like to do red with this; purple is a good suggestion too, as is green. I like contrasting colours more than matchy ones, but that's why I prefer a simple cut of dress: so that I can play with the accessories!

  11. How could you have given away that marvellous blue dress? It looks gorgeous with the blue obi and shoes. The pink moto jacket was a brilliant touch, too. The green pants were well worth saving as well.

    Take care

    1. I know, what was I thinking?? It was a little tighter last year, which didn't make me feel inclined to wear it. That happens.

I love the pants - I can only plead insanity on those! Thank you so much, Vronni!

  12. I'm delighted that you kept that beautiful blue dress, the colour is phenomenal with your super cool refreshed hair. The turquoise belt and shoes are fantastic with it as iss your pank biker jacket. I had to giggle about the crotchtastic split at the front.
Vizzini looks positively regal on his throne!
I'm sure my Mum had an identical pair of satin trousers to yours, she was a cool dresser, just like you.
I can't wait to see what your treat is! xxx

    1. Thanks, Vix, me too - I'm glad it fits again! The newly-re-pinked hair goes with everything! I love having the boldness in my colour again. Lol, yes, well, we have to think about these things, don't we? I hate slit-wrangling.

He is such a little pasha!

Oh, nice, what a sweet compliment! I'm honoured. :)

I know you will love it!

  13. I'm glad you decided to keep the dress and the joggers - both look so good on you, and the shade of blue of the dress is such a flattering colour for you. I don't have any simple dresses like that and I think I need to find one or two. All hail King Vizzini!

  14. wow, so glad that you've kept the dress, it's such a beautiful and versatile piece, love its color and shape!, and it has even an interesting texture.
Love that you wore it with different color combos, and love this turquoise ensemble particularly and the cute PanK jacket, so cool!. I vote for orange and chartreuse as next colors!
And you rock those satin trousers, you styled them so fabulously!, love the accessorizing and the cool jacket!
And also love that Vizzini approved the new art corner!

    1. Yes, the texture is such a nice added bonus -it's really intricate. I love a dress that is versatile enough to dress up multiple ways - I don't like "one and done" looks. Chartreuse is a good suggestion! I wish I had that hat of yours to wear with it!

Thank you - I like my brand of casual! Vizzini has to check out everything, all the time!

  15. What a lovely blue dress on you. I love the matching turquoise belt and shoes you wore with it. The pink jacket is cute as well. I like the combination of pink and blue.Great styling! Those heels are fabulous and they look very comfy too. I'm assuming they are, since you got so much wear out of them. The leather on them looks super soft.
The second look with the khaki green pants and the pointy shoes is very stylish and it looks comfy too. Wonderful outfits both of them.
