Chase Away the Monday Gray

When I did my closet swap-over at the end of September, I made a conscious effort to keep out things that were brightly coloured, that I might have packed away in other fall/winter seasons. I'm very influenced by the colours I wear - I feel better when I wear something bright.
Today, I realized that my bright colours affect other people too. Many of my colleagues remarked on how cheery my bright stripes and colours were. I chased away the Monday gray!

  • Jacket - Vivienne Westwood Anglomania, consignment; first worn here in September with a metal floral dress
  • Sweater - M Missoni, thrifted; purchased here yesterday for $14.95
  • Leather skirt - Evan Davies, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in August with peacock blue and brocade
  • Shoes - Gentle Souls; last seen here in August with marigold and chainmail
  • Cerulean coat (below) - vintage 80s, thrifted; first worn here in October over another summer bright

A blooper for you - I still had my camera on zoom. You do get a good look at the sweater weave and colours there, though.
And you can see my new-to-me ring being worn on my thumb.

I love all the stripes in this top - it goes so well with so many things in my closet. I have a feeling I'll be wearing it a lot.
Another wearing of this awesome grey jacket. I just love the nice drape on it.

I normally pack away this vintage pink leather skirt - I'm really glad I kept it out.
I need some pink in my life. Pink is an "in your face" colour.

Here I am: in your face, Monday!
And here I am with my bright pinks worn with my bright cerulean blue coat.
I tucked the scarf in to keep my chest warmer. I was still spitting bits of fur out all the way to work.

  • Cashmere toque - Club Monaco, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - consignment
  • Fur boa - thrifted

I also clipped my hair up and tucked it all into the toque.

The stuff:
These soft grey shoes are soft on my feet.

Mixed metal bling:
Remember when mixing metals was a big no-no? Bwah! Screw it!

  • Belt - thrifted
  • Star Trek pin - MoPop gift shop, Seattle
  • Clip earrings - vintage fair; first wearing, purchased here for $6.00
  • Silver/gold cuff - JPL, vintage fair
  • Bracelet - POLY, thrifted
  • Top ring - POLY, vintage fair; first wearing, purchased here for $5.00
  • Bottom ring - POLY, vintage expo

I caught a glimpse of the Castle through the fog this morning (this is why my camera was on zoom).
So spooky!

Then the fog lifted and it's been raining all day.

  4. I really like that bright pink leather skirt on you. Pairing this lovely skirt with stripes made the whole outfit even more fun. Those grey heels are so pretty and they seem the kind of shoes one can wear with anything. The blue coat is a lovely choice as well. You look fantastic in this combo. This outfit does look like THE perfect combo to chase away the Monday blues. Bright colours sometimes improve my mood too! Wearing them in the colder months makes so much sense!!!

    1. Thank you, Ivana! I often like some sort of print in my outfits. The shoes go with a lot - I've worn them tons of times. Bright colours definitely improve my mood, and winter is the best time for them.

  5. obsessed with Vivienne Westwood! when i was in LA i had to look over each of her pieces--could never afford any of them...but the beauty and craftsmanship--insane....i collect vintage leather and suede skirts (albeit most pencils from 80's and 90s) in all colors...but that pink is exquisite!

    1. I love her stuff too, Eva! I have a few pieces that I've found here and there. I adore vintage leather and suede - I have to ensure that I don't go overboard on them, though!

  6. If there was ever one outfit to chase away any Monday blues and greys, it is the one you're wearing here. That amazing pink skirt and the striped jumper are a match made in heaven, and the Vivienne Westwood jacket is the perfect companion. And then there's the additional pop of colour provided by that stunning cerulean blue coat. The mental image of you spitting bits of feather made me laugh - and nod, as this is exactly what happens if I'm wearing my pink boa scarf :-)) xxx

  11. Great outfit!! I love all those pieces. I laughed when I read about when mixing metals was a no-no. There was a time when I would have died rather than wear silver and gold together but now it just seems ridiculous. The wisdom of ageing!! x

  12. That fab hot pink skirt is one of my fave pieces in your leather collection. I found a 1980's cerulean blue leather jacket this past weekend for $8 - such a great colour.
