Velvet, Dragon Scales, Polar Bear and Cat Pictures

Today is my Friday! As L and I always do, we host a small US Thanksgiving football-watching day, so we give ourselves a long weekend, just like our neighbours to the south.
I was pretty stoked for it all day, and happily locked up my desk and breezed out of the office on time.

  • Velvet blazer - Talbots, thrifted; last worn here in September as outerwear with a floral maxi
  • Sweater - Talbots, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95
  • Skirt - Strawberry Jill, thrifted; last worn here a year ago in November 2018 with all the necklaces
  • Shoes - Sol Sana, consignment; purchased here for $29.00
  • Coat (below) - Apparence, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in March

Guess who else is stoked to have us around for four whole days?
"Four days? That's a lot of nap-time."

Today's outfit is me wanting to wear these new-to-me shoes, and noting how well they went with this very cool skirt. I call it "dragon scale" - each one of those circles is silk, and serged around the edges, then sewn together.
It's amazing and very labour-intensive. I don't wear it that often, but it's not going anywhere!

I wore this new-to-me functional white sleeveless sweater with it; the velvet blazer was then a natural pick as the topper piece.
I'm smirking as I think about not being at work.
Hooray for mid-week Friday! And a Happy Thanksgiving to all my US friends!

Outerwear - it's the return of the Unsafe Polar Bear! It was freezing cold and windy today - brrr! I was very happy to have the Unsafe Polar Bear to keep me warm.
I've told the story before, but it bears (har) repeating. I often name my clothes, but this coat was named for me. I was crossing a roadway late at night many years ago, just after I first bought this, and encouraging my friends to follow me ("Follow meeeee!"). I may have been tipsy.

It was Yvonne (I've since been reminded) who said, "Don't listen to the Unsafe Polar Bear!" And since then, when I wear this, I am the Unsafe Polar Bear.
And that's how the Unsafe Ocelot got its name too - just by association (not via any tipsy shenanigans!).

  • Scarf - swap from Vero
  • Wool gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
First wearing of these shoes, and they were awesome! I did many flights of stairs today, hoofing it up and down between our 3+ floors, and they were fabulous.

Amber bling:
A mix of cheapie-cheapie and super fancy.

  • Bead/chain necklace - Plum
  • Amber necklace - vintage 1920s, gift from L, vintage mall
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Ring - vintage fair
  • Ear-balls - Dior, consignment

I doubled up the bead/chain necklace to make it look like I had three necklaces on.

Bonus cat pictures! When I do my make-up and hair in the morning, Vizzini often comes to visit me, and leads me off on little tours around the house. This morning, he flopped on the living room rug and asked for a tummy rub.
"Surely you have time for me?"

Rest assured, he is NOT a Venus-fly-cat, out to trap me and rake my arms with his claws. I can rub his tum up and down and he loves it.

Since I had the camera, I picked him up and we did a couple of selfies in the bathroom mirror.
"I call this look Yellow Steel."

Don't be fooled by the stare-y eyes - he's a big ol' cuddle-meister.

Well, that's it, my friends, I am off to enjoy a quiet weekend of football, possibly some non-Black Friday second-hand shopping and lazing about. I'll be back on Sunday with the Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up, so until then, have a wonderful weekend! Thank you so much for visiting!

    1. It's good to pull out those old favourites, isn't it, Vix? I loved the new booties.

Oh, he is in snuggle heaven! No bonus treats - other than having us home - we are very careful with not overindulging him. Thank you, my dear!

  7. You look stunning in this outfit. All set for the weekend, I see. The scales on that skirt are so fab. I love that it made of silk pieces that have been sewn together. It does remind me of dragon scales. You can call it dragon skirt. :) Cute boots, too. Lovely blazer and sweater to match the dragon skirt. Speaking of naming the clothes, I love your polar bear coat. It looks really warm. I think I'll just call it the polar bear coat, unsafe polar bear sounds a bit too long.:)

    Enjoy your long weekend. :)

    1. Thanks so much, Vronni! The "dog's breakfast" here in Canada means the opposite of what you mean, lol - it's a mess or a big disaster.

And that's why I always explain it once a year, so that you know I'm not crazy, naming all my coats silly things. Thank you, tummy rubs are being given frequently!

    1. Thanks so much, Monica - yeah, I tell the story of the Unsafe Polar Bear every year, just in case people don't know. It actually really helps me when I can't remember the brands, as you say. Thanks!
